friend D When my "techie" friend came to me saying "i beat your overclock" when i overclocked his 3ghz athlon 640 to 3.3 on stock 1.4volts, he then comes back a  few days later saying "i beat your overclock" with a screen shot of it at 3.9, all he had done is read what the max voltage was (1.55) set that and then put the fsb to 260 without even touching the ram divider, ht, nb or anything and when i asked is it stable he replies "yeah it plays black ops fine"
this is on a 4+1 vrm board...

friend J when my other friend bought a phenom 975 for £125 (back in dec 2011) when i said buy a 955 because its the same chip, his excuse "yeah but i just wanna make sure it runs at that speed", hes happy hes now put the multi from 18 to 18.5 YAY 100MHZ OC!!!!, one morning, a bit hungover from the night before i got up before him and got it to 4.2 stable @1.525v within about 2 hours (inc 1 hour of prime 95)......

IM SO GLAD I REMEMBER THIS!, a friend of "friend D" was showing off his new galaxy s3 mini (which is a rebodied s2) after about a minute of him saying its "samsungs newest phone" and "it only cost him £350" when asking "ok what the specs of your phone" (lg Optimus 3D) i said "pretty much same as your but has a slightly bigger screen and about cost me half the price" i saw his face drop followed by "yeah but this is 1080p", i kid you not i cried on the floor laughing at that 1 for a good 5 minutes, hes now asking £140 for it a year later...wheras some places sell my phone for over £250 still.

friend T- was showing off to some people we know that his gaming pc (storm enforcer case, 7770, Crosshair5) has AMD's latest cpu..........its an engineering sample fx4100 bulldozer which even stock hits 90*c (how i have no idea), everyone still looks on in amazement at it....i want a gun, he also opposes me when i say that HTC screens break all the time, 6 out of 7 ive seen have (the other being a one-v)

here's one when i was a noob, my first phone was an optimus 540 (love lg now), and i couldnt work out how the sd card clip wouldnt stay down despite ive put the sd card in it loads of time before, i took it to the carphone warehouse and the young girl (i was 22 she was prob 20) looked at it, clicked it across and goes "there you go".....yeah, I know........

brother swears his pc is fine and worth a fortune cus he built it himself.......back in 2005 with a 2.8ghz pentium 4, a gig of ddr 400 ram a DFI infinity motherboard and a 256mb 9600pro with vista and a 200gb WD sata 1 hard drive, i remember him playing gta3 on it.

everything i hear come out of a guys mouth at maplin when talking to a customer, i wanna correct them but thatll kill my chances of checking (overpriced) stuff out.

most things that come out of customers mouths at cex, "dude check that graphics card out!!!!"-its a vanilla 550ti

    oh to finish off..
paul (a friend of friend D) wanted to play a few games, nfs world, fifa 13... friend D said "your going to need to save and get a graphics card" but didnt go any further.
3 days later paul tells me and my friend he bought a graphics card and can we install it? it's a nvidia gt210....from maplin (£30) it could just play fifa 13 on minimum @720p with no crowd. (50in plasma with pixel gaps you can walk through).
hes now given up gaming and given it to me :P where its now in use in my server.

I'm guessing it was this law:
"I am a complete noob, and because I do not understand something you are breaking some kind of rule, despite the fact that you did very little, if anything wrong"
That pretty much sums up the technological understanding at my school...

I'be got unia one friend, who thinks that he knows everything 'bout everything.
One day he asked if Ps3 has HDMI, so I replayed:

For me, I just hate when people claim they know more than what they actually know,  just say you don't know it's fine we've all been there,
Or here's the best, Claim that their little console is better than a pc... What an absolute joke.

So my mate Franco is like "Oh I'm thinking of getting a new phone because my iPhone 3G is getting a bit slow. So right now I'm thinking good good. Then he turns to me and says "So iPhone 5 is the best performance wise right?" Not even kidding my mate Dan who is a hardcore Android Fan-boy, SPRINTS towards us and says... "What on earth did you just say?" I laugh a bit because I know what's coming and Dan just unleashes a whole ton of hate about how consumers assume that an Apple product must be the best and then shows him on his Samsung Galaxy 2 the "3 best phone out on the market" the HTC one, the Sony Xperia Z and the Samsung Galaxy S4. Franco is dazed and confused and just accepts all the stuff Dan has shouted at him. XD
    Was truly hilarious.

My computer crashed from overheating and I told my father I needed to buy some fans. I came back and he put a bigass house fan blowing directly at it. He told me it was fine now and asked me to try it. Predictably, it crashed but he asked me "Do you think its too cold?"

Took my mum 10 minutes to open Control Panel despite very clear instructions over the phone.
When reformatting my HDD, she told me to be careful not to get a virus. Same with installing Windows. In fact, anything I do, regardless of internet connectivity, can get me hacked or infected.

That kind of stuff gets ridiculous after a while.  I remember a few years ago, i built a PC for my aunt. She called me a day or so later "IT'S NOT WORKING, YOU MADE ME WASTE £400!"

The other day, my friend paid $1650 canadian for this build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/Y5h1

I kid you not. I told him specifically to wait for haswell and i'd give him a specific parts list and talk him through building a PC, what does he do? Goes into a store and buys that. For $1600 CAD.
I'll just let that soak in a second.

From some of these posts I think my experiences weren't too bad :D.

I thing this one is common, but too many people I know end up installing everything any websites or program suggests, to a certain degree it's understandable, I mean programs like McAffee's trial or Babylon search can easily be downloaded and installed with other products that you need (such as Flash or Reader, if I remember correctly) if you're not paying attention, but sometimes you find people with some 5 toolbars on their browser, tons of spyware, random programs which they don't even recognise or remember installing. Then they have their desktop full of shortcuts which they don't need, installers which they have already run years before, attachments which have been downloaded some 5 times over.

I find it really stupid and surprising how many people just keep ignoring all the alerts for updates... I mean if it's annoying just accept and it will stop bothering you, and many times they're a year or more out of date, I know people who are still running iOS 4 on their iPhone 4 and Firefox 13 :D.

Here's a recent story: a friend was complaining how her laptop was full and she needed to upgrade her laptop (notice how I said laptop, not hard drive)... I checked My Computer and sure enough she had about 200GB free in a completely empty partition and her system partition (some 20GB) was completely full (which was, admittedly, not helped by my attempt to quietly update to SP1 which she had been ignoring).

In the past few years I was present pretty much every time anyone in my or my girlfriend's family was going to buy some sort of electronic device, usually it ends up with me talking to the salesperson while they stare not comprehending a single word we were saying, but I guess it's better that way, although I do try to involve them and explain what the difference really was but it would be very obvious they had no idea and do not really care which to choose, even though they'd be spending up to 1400 EUR on it .

You'd be surprised how many people I've heard saying this

I spent quite some time explaining to one of my friends that not all downloads contain virus at all. And definitely not if you download a piece of software from a known publisher like antivirus software from Avast or AVG. As far as she was concerned, safe software comes from a store on a disk. Internet = virus...

Another girl from my school said that she liked the Sims games. I asked her why she hadn't installed the game on her Mac so she could enjoy them, then? Well, apparently because games make the computer run slow.

Actually today I had an argument with the same girl. She got very annoyed at me because I hit my elbow on the table where her Mac was standing. She recently learned that HDD's contain moving parts, and she was sure that the vibrations I created in the table would wreck the HDD and destroy her files.

I sold a mother board online once, it was a workstaion grade but since i upgraded my cpu to the new intel socket with a 2700k, i didnt need it anymore. I get an email saying it doesn't work. I say okay send it back ill see if it was a old bios problem that i can fix. I get it back, i kid you not it looked like he freaking punched the shit out of the socket pins! some where torn out! wtf?? sadly i sold it though amazon, which mean when i told him he purposely broke it and ill send it back he went to amazon who forced me to give him a refund. never again will i sell on amazon.

I was talking to my sisters (Tech God boyfriend) about graphics cards. and so i told him that the build i was working onwas going to have a Gtx 680. and he told me oh no that is a overpriced piece of crap annd that i should get 1 amd 5500 and it will out preform a 680 any day. so as if that isnt dumb enough later im talikg to him as to why he preferes AMD over Nvidia and hes giving me all these reasons and i told him that one of the positives for nvidia is physx and so he tells me that AMD has physx to and that it works better on AMD than Nvidia. and at that i now just ignore him and let him thinks what he wants.

    1. We saw an increase in phishing spam sent to our users wanting them to "confirm their accounts" to "keep them open". We send out an official announcement saying that we've noticed an increase in spam asking for users passwords and to not give out passwords in an email if asked. We end up getting about 20 users reply to the announcement with their username and password... fail...
    2. Probably the funniest moment I've ever had in tech support was when someone walked into the place I was working holding an ethernet cable by both ends. He claimed that his machine had gotten infected with a virus and that he reinstalled Windows and it came back so he was convinced that the virus was "stuck in his ethernet cable" and was holding the ends up because he didn't want it to "fall out".

Must read.... I borrowed this from a friends post..
Recently, when I went to McDonald's I saw on the menu that you could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 Chicken McNuggets.
I asked for a half dozen nuggets.
'We don't have half dozen nuggets,' said the teenager at the counter.
    'You don't?' I replied.
'We only have six, nine, or twelve,' was the reply.
'So I can't order a half dozen nuggets, but I can order six?'
    'That's right.'
So I shook my head and ordered six McNuggets
    (Unbelievable but sadly true...)
(Must have been the same one I asked for sweetener,
and she said they didn't have any, only Splenda and sugar.)

I was checking out at the local Wal-Mart with just a few items and the lady behind me put her things on the belt close to mine. I picked up one of those 'dividers' that they keep by the cash register and placed it between our things so they wouldn't get mixed.
After the girl had scanned all of my items, she picked up the
'divider', looking it all over for the bar code so she could scan it.
Not finding the bar code, she said to me, 'Do you know how much this is?'
I said to her 'I've changed my mind; I don't think I'll buy that today.'
She said 'OK,' and I paid her for the things and left.
She had no clue to what had just happened.
( But the lady behind me had a big smirk on her face as I left)

A woman at work was seen putting a credit card into her floppy drive and pulling it out very quickly.
When I inquired as to what she was doing, she said she was shopping on the Internet and they kept asking for a credit card number, so she was using the ATM 'thingy.'

I recently saw a distraught young lady weeping beside her car. 'Do you need some help?' I asked. She replied, 'I knew I should have replaced the battery to this remote door unlocker. Now I can't get into my car. Do you think they (pointing to a distant convenience store) would have a battery to fit this?'
'Hmmm, I don't know. Do you have an alarm, too?' I asked.
'No, just this remote thingy,' she answered,
handing it and the car keys to me. As I
took the key and manually unlocked the door, I
replied, 'Why don't you drive over there and
check about the batteries. It's a long walk....'
PLEASE just lay down before you hurt yourself !!!

Several years ago, we had an Intern who was none too swift. One day she was typing and turned to a secretary and said, 'I'm almost out of typing paper. What do I do?' 'Just use paper from the photocopier', the secretary told her. With that, the intern took her last remaining blank piece of paper, put it on the photocopier and proceeded to make five 'blank' copies.

Dispatcher: 'Rush him in to emergency right away'
