    It does indeed sound like odd behaviour. It doesn't look like that motherboard has a debug code display, but it likely has LED's that'll indicate what stage of the boot sequence the board is up to when it locks up. That may help identify a potential stability issue or area to focus on. There should be an option to 'Load optimized defaults' or similar, often located in the final page of the bios along with the save/load profile options. I would suggest not worrying about using the RAM above the default frequency until the other issues have been dealt with. As for the sleep mode USB problems, there should be bios settings regarding sleep state functionality, usually in a sub-directory of advanced. When overclocking the sleep states are often disabled to aide system stability so if you can't control the USB sleep state functions directly it might be worth trialling disabling sleep states altogether. Also check if running the USB compatibility in legacy/USB2.0 provides the sleep state functionality back. If you have no luck it may be either a unique bios update issue or an issue with that bios revision. In either case I would go back one bios version and see if the issue persists. In all of the above cases, if you can test for issue persistence with only a single setting/operation change at a time you should have a greater chance of identifying the culprit.

    A faster SSD/optane can help in read/write operations, but the 4GB RAM is still going to be an issue. Windows 7 is still a popular choice for older gaming PCs due to less resource requirements so it is probably worth trying it out. Otherwise, there is always windows 10S. Looks great. Zorin: https://zorinos.com/ Haven't tried this one, but it's designed to look like Windows. You can change the Desktop Environment for linux distros, which can help with system resource usage. If you want to try a different operating system just install over the old one, or if you want more space back for windows 10, just delete the new partition and increase the main partition size back to full.     I had a 3570k prior to ryzen so I thought I'd throw my experience your way. 4.6ghz was my 24/7 overclock at ~1.3v, with around 4.8ghz being the max I could run reasonably. I found 4.8 a touch too hot for my liking in the summer. I used 4.6 from 2012 until ryzen launch with the only issue being that the TIM wasn't doing a great job in the later years. I delidded and dropped from ~85 C+ to in the 60's. Your experience seems inline with what that CPU is like. IIRC the golden voltage to aim to stay below is 1.35v for Ivy bridge.

    Assuming both are the 1050ti/7700hq models, the performance is rather similar. I believe the dell does a little bit better in tempuratures so it would be worth considering that. If your budget allows, have a look at the cost of a step-up model that has a GTX1060 instead as the performance is close to double. Often the price on a second hand one is the same as the 1050ti models new. (I just did this after shopping around for a couple of months)

    MIght be worth checking the Nvidia control panel program settings, you may have an override with something like V-sync that only works in fullscreen mode. I've also had an issue with steam overlay causing reduced frames after tabbing out or opening the overlay in-game. While likely not the culprit, it may be worth checking if nothing else is working.

    Vanilla visuals are solid, however the 1080ti should get you into the 100+FPS realm at 1440p so something like Halk Hogan's newly released graphics overhaul would be a great option. http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1021/? There is also a mod (can't remember name, will add if I find) that gives you full control of all the graphics options under the hood, which can really max out the graphics your system can handle.

    There's a couple of mods that overhaul the shaders to 'pretty' up the game. Very subjective whether they're better or not, but a look at nexusmods top files doesn't hurt for good options. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/top/? Also if you haven't already, I HIGHLY recommend trying out The Witcher 3. Game is gorgeous and had me hooked for 400 hours, and it has similar mod support to bethesda titles.

    If you find this thread and are in the same boat as me, I've found the biggest help is to rearrange the IDE components to match what you are used to. For me, this was copying the Visual Studio C# designer style and it's back to familiar ground. The similarities to C# are pretty uncanny once rearranged. This, while I haven't yet faced, will surely rear its head soon. This will probably be just a case of experience and googling.     Yea, I have a small amount of Java experience but I'll need to brush up on that. I jumped in to Android Studio and it seems a little bit daunting though

    Hi guys, I have been asked to help a lecturer at uni with developing an Android app for their phd research. It's paid work and would be really good for the CV but I've never done android before. Any advice on where I can learn to use Android Studio in 2 weeks? My experience is mostly in C++ in Visual Studio doing game dev with openGL, SFML and Box2D. Thanks, appreciate any input.

    Is that difference in price between products from different regions? if it's $110 hike for the $20 module, there's got to be something else going on. As for a time, I'd expect it to just be another product available at retailers at some point in the next month or two. If they are smart they'd try target the price drops on ryzen pre-threadripper.

    As an owner of the C6H, (had 2 Aurus Gaming 5's that failed, this was the 'get away from gigabyte' replacement) I thought that the antennas and wifi module came with the board. I don't use wifi for my system, and honestly don't think most people buying a board of this caliber to so it doesn't bother me, but if the price increase is significant I'd suggest the non-wifi variant would be much more popular. Could be a delayed launch to not scare off customers at the launch of Ryzen with a high price.

    Has anyone encountered these issues before? Occasionally, if I close a word document and then reopen it, it opens in read-only mode (not secure mode like with downloaded files, just read-only). If I try to save the read-only file as a different name it says I can't save to the current directory and prompts to save somewhere else, which gives the same issue. Also, I can't preview word documents in the side pane of windows explorer and every time I go to a directory with a word doc in it I get 3 popups saying to check the temp environment variable (I've followed all the fixes I could find). I have repaired office 365, reinstalled it, updated all drivers I could think of, installed x64 and x86. I just need office to work so I can get on with my uni work.... Screenshots:

    If you had a 3570K then I'd say yes, absolutely. A 3770k hasn't aged quite as badly and still holds up well in most games. However, a lot of newer games are really utilizing CPU power (Battlefield 1, watch dogs 2, etc) and you can see some significant gains. I'd grab a new graphics card, overclock your CPU if you haven't already, and compare your results to online benchmarks to see if a platform upgrade is worth your hard earned $$$

    I upgraded from a 780 to a 1080 not that long ago and I found a lot of newer games performed fairly similarly (particularly games like battlefield 1 and gta v) due to CPU limitation. You'll get higher max fps but the averages and dips are comparable. That was with an i5 3570k at 4.6GHz and 1440p res, but I wouldn't be expecting a performance boost across the board.

    Same situation here. Really happy with my purchase and it shines when gaming at 1440p while running a bunch of programs in the background, which is perfect for me.

    Not sure if it's an option in your bios, but in mine I can set the values for frequency and timings while still being in auto mode. Leaving it in auto makes the manual entries fairly useless since they change dynamically, so if you have that setting available, turn it to manual. Otherwise I'm not too sure I'm afraid.

    From what I can see the ultra low graphics mods just turn down graphics settings below the normally available range (without digging through settings files), so they should work with discrete graphics chips as well. something else you could try is play the game in a resolution with exact scaling to your native resolution. When I had a lower performance graphics card I played at 720p on my 1440p monitor (4 x scaling = less jaggies/interpolation). For 1080p, 4 x scaling would be 960 x 540. Might look bad, but would be worth trying for sure

    Have you tried manually entering the speed of the memory? Sometimes when trying to run memory at higher-than-rated (motherboard rating) speeds it can require a CPU overclock. Being a 970 chipset board I'm not sure if you are able to overclock your CPU, but it would be worth a try.
