  1. I work tech support in a medical diagnostics production lab. Our IT management software scans all devices on the network periodically to identify the make, model, OS, etc... Well, it seems to think that one of our HP printers is running Windows Server.... This type of thing is why I'm still skeptical about the upcoming Robot Uprising.
  2. Recently, I've become an in-house tech at a medical diagnostics lab, and I seem to find myself quoting 'The IT Crowd' more often than not. I'm surrounded by Doctors with Ph.Ds and other degrees lightyears ahead of mine, yet they can't even figure out how to enable the preview window in Outlook!
  3. Yes. Win 7 does not have basic drivers that work with this card
  4. Windows 7. I looked up the hardware ID of the card and its an Intel Dual-Band Wireless-AC 3160
  5. I've got a Latitude E5570 with a sketchy wireless card that needs to go. I fished out a Vostro 3558 and salvaged it's wireless for the Latitude. The card is installed correctly. However, when I try to install the drivers, the installation fails with the message "Installation Blocked" "This software package cannot be installed on your system" I'm positive I have the correct drivers but they still refuse to install. Any help would be appreciated
  6. My family used to do that. we've had tons of Nissans for a long time. I think it had something to do with that Nissan V6 Mercury had stuffed in their Villager minivans back in '97 (the Villagers were basically Nissan Quests). We bought one of those brand new and did nothing but general maintenance on it. Never broke down once. That van was also my first car btw. Hope you don't mind if I start hanging out here. Not around much, but I like to post when I can.
  7. OH SNAP!!! The screen came back on! Touch is still dead, but I think I might be able to use an OTG and plug in a mouse. Gonna run to Best Buy and see if they have one.
  8. Unfortunately, no. Not to say I didn't try tho. LG loves to lock their phones tight...
  9. Forgot to say, no SD card. Never had one in the phone
  10. I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands. Last night, the screen on my LG G4 went out. I've already gone out and gotten a new phone, but I still need the files on the G4. I've tried to plug it into my PC, and that didn't work. Some sort of security measure is not letting my computer see the files. Basically, i'm asking how I can get the files from my old phone onto my PC without using the screen.
  11. As far as I know, a Nvidia GPU must work instructions in chronological order. That's why they don't get nice performance gains on asynchronous compute APIs. AMD, on the other hand, can work each instruction in the order it is issued by, so it doesn't need to bench an instruction that was issued out of order. I think that's right... been a while since I've posted here
  12. Yes. It can still get power even if the board itself is ruined.
  13. I've actually had it where electricity killed my mobo, CPU, and a RAM stick but my PSU was fine. Granted, that was because EVGA power supplies are shite! EDIT: what exactly is the problem?
  14. Bought an Asus G75VW gaming laptop off some guy on Craigslist for $100. Screen is broken, but a replacement isn't actually too expensive.
  15. I present to you....... My stepdad's custom build........ My stepdad had a house fire and presumed this guy dead. it sat in our garage forever before I cleaned it and rebuilt it. The current version has an Athlon II x4, 8 Gigs of RAM, and a Radeon HD 7770. I use it as a living room PC and get the same performance as my roommates i3/750Ti rig.
  16. I got one for ya. I work at a computer store that does a lot of PC repair. One of our regulars, an older lady, uses an Apple cinema display with her Windows PC. She tells us that her PC no longer comes up on the Apple cinema. We take it in and find out that the adapter that goes from the HDMI on her video card to whatever proprietary bullcrap Apple uses as display input, has gone bad. Now it turns out that the company that made these adapters has gone out of business (I believe they were forced out by none other than Apple), so, the adapter no longer exists for anything lower than $100. When we inform her, she tells us that "You promised me that you could fix it!" and "Why would you make a promise you can't keep!" When we tell her, for the umpteenth time, that the adapter is no longer produced, she gets very angry and proceeds to accuse us of "Cheating people out of their money!" and "Running a false business!" My boss (I felt sorry that he had to deal with this woman) offers to trade a Shimian monitor for her cinema display. Shimian is a Korean company that provided the screens for Apple's cinema displays, and the monitor he's offering has almost the exact same screen in it. She shuts his offer down and hangs up angrily. A couple days later, she comes into the store with her freaking lawyer!!! She keeps accusing him of being a fraud, and she still does not understand that the adapter pretty much doesn't exist anymore. Finally, the owner just tells her to leave the store. The whole exchange made me realize that PC repair techs take a lot of crap from non-techies.
  17. I only turn my PCs off if I'm going to be gone for more than a day, or if it's been a couple weeks since they've been turned off.
  18. Pokemon Blue Version was the first video game I played. Ahh, the good ol' days...
  19. My problem with Apple is that their PCs have literally no cooling They have a decent amount of power under the hood that remains unused because they overheat before the CPU gets halfway under load.
  20. my first computer was actually a laptop. I present to you, the IBM Thinkpad 760e
  21. I have never had as much trouble with other consoles (even my 10 year old Xbox 360 arcade) that i have had with Sony consoles. had a PS3 fat. stopped displaying anything within a few months, sent to Sony for repair. Got it returned to find that it wouldn't turn on 3 days later. bought a slim and thankfully have had no more trouble with it. i was one of the sorry saps who bought a day one PS4. arrived DOA like half the launch day PS4s. got a new one from warranty and the disc drive went out. got it back from repair and got error after error and sent it back to Sony once again. warranty is gone now and it refuses to connect to wifi, forcing me to route an ethernet cable to it. That, my friends, is why I am an Xbox fan!

    RAM issue

I've heard of instances where certain types of RAM don't like certain motherboards. Have you tried using different RAM from another PC?
