Either of them would be good, though don't expect the highest overclocks on the Z97MX (that's if you do decide to overclock).

I personally bought the 4790K as it will last a lot longer than a 4690k, and ATM I've got mine set to run at 3.5GHz, and when its no longer fast enough I'll have it running at stock, and finally when its getting too slow at stock I'll run it at 4.8GHz. With the 4790K expect at least 5 years of use.

Choosing a performance friendly enb and not going overboard with too many floral mods will still enable you to have 40-60fps. Because skyrim isn't properly ported, it only makes use of one of your cores. And there you'll find a bottleneck.

It's because skyrim PC port was coded by literal monkeys
Bethesda is always shit when it comes to PC, maybe Fallout will be different, but don't get your hopes up

It's the cpu that causes the drops. I had that exact cpu and the same thing would happen to me in cities and other areas with many creatures/npcs. It sucks, skyrim really favors Intel cpus over AMD. But I didn't have many problems with other games with the 6300, even multiplayer games. But I would recommend moving to an i5 in the future. Definitely the best upgrade I've made.

Yep it's the CPU, has horrible single core performance which skyrim loves. My old FX8320 did the same thing. Would drop to 40fps making it an awful experience. Switch to the i5 4690k and never drops below 60. Trust me I regretted my FX purchase also, but I just sold both the CPU and Mobo and got the i5 I couldn't be happier now.

Rediculous, Skyrim is famously bad for its poor cpu optimization, that's why it is commonly used as a cpu bench since it's single Threaded. But for actual gameplay is a stuttery mess
Is not AMDs fault that skyrim only takes advantage of IPC when other better ported games have more detail and suffer less on AMD hardware
Skyrim is an outlier of bad ports, it's not nearly representative of the cpu power difference

Meh. That's just skyrim. I suggest you go throw in an ENB and some mods since you're gonna have bad performance anyway. Might as well make it look good.

Youre not the only one mate! But then again I have one of the K enbs on quality present plus a crap ton of mods. Get about 40-45 in whiterun and about the same in riverwood, 65-85 open world depends on the action, 95-110 indoors, maxed out at 1440p. When on 3d vision shit hits the fan at 30 fps open world. 55-65 indoors.
Skyrim is a cpu intensive game. I think gpu as well? When i OCed my 4820k i had more or less 9 fps boost I think it helps the gpu a bit better.

Because it doesn't appear he has the sort of disposable income that would allow him to upgrade to an entirely new platform soon. Not buying a 970 now, puts more money towards a newer, more balanced system in the future. By the time he upgrades, new midrange cards will stomp the 970 and all that time he didn't really benefit from the 970 much.

It's bad value, that's why. Upgrading in phases is silly.

@System_Of_A_Game don't you have some used market website in mexico? Picking up a used 760 or 770 would be the most ideal thing.

AMD has not really put their plan in action yet... Their CPUs are strong in integer but weaker in floating point because they only have 1 FPU per pair of cores... but their intention is to offload that sort of calculation to a GPU which is far, far better than even the most powerful CPU at floating point operations (this is Heterogeneous System Architecture, or HSA).  And this is where APUs come in, with their advanced onboard GPU.  You can see they are pushing the FM2 platform now, since AM3+ doesn't have integrated graphics, and there are rumors of AM3+ being abandoned completely.  A future FX-level APU with an onboard GPU will blaze through FLOps, and in theory their performance should improve in huge strides, especially if you have a dedicated GPU for the graphics work, and the integrated GPU in the APU can be dedicated to accelerating the CPU's floating point calculations.

System_Of_A_Game reacted to TechFan@ic in Intel & AMD, Architectural Discussion, How Far Ahead Is Intel ?
Well guys I've been doing my own research & analysis of the performance of AMD & Intel CPUs for sometime, I did not do tests personally however I tried to salvage as much knowledge as possible to try and answer a question that has been on my mind, which is how far ahead Intel really is? and that question led me to some very interesting realizations.

The discussion will be highly technical and might seem boring to some, I'll start off with the basics & end with the answer to the original question plus several others.

Ok let's begin, first off our discussion will be surrounding AMD's modular Bulldozer/Piledriver architecture & Intel's core series from Westmere to Sandy/Ivy & Haswell.

    The Architectures : AMD Bulldozer/Piledriver

The building block of AMD's modular architecture is not an x86 core, it's an x86 module, this module contains everything that a core contains but with a number of components doubled, these components include the integer scheduler, its datapath, 16KB of L1 DCache & it's own load/store unit.
The doubling of these components is what gives the AMD module essentially two cores/threads.
The integer cores share the early pipeline stages (e.g. L1i, fetch, decode), the floating point unit, and the L2 cache with the rest of the module.

    How this affects performance
Depending on the workload the quad module eight core AMD processors can either perform as eight processing units or as four and this depends entirely on the affinity of the workload to integer or floating point calculations.
If integer calculations are needed there are eight integer pipelines that can be used, however if floating point calculations are needed there are only four.

Same architecture yes, but its In my mind no different from Intel charging more money for a K processor? So look at it like this FX9590 is the FX8350K...

    Its 4.7Ghz with 5Ghz Turbo...

And thanks for calling me an Idiot, because believe me I am far from it,  but luckily I don't take offence from narrow minded people who cant help being special...

I regret to inform you that I have been having fun... I was unlikely to buy the FX9590 at £700 but with that offer on Aria, for £300 why the hell not...

Again its no different from Intel offering a K processor they have to keep all the good ones for K "Fully unlocked" and sell the other as "Limited Unlocked".
