  1. My guess would be that you saw it on phoronix.
  2. Thanks I think I'll buy the 770, especially because It is costing about $266 and I can sell my r9 270x for about $186 here in my country.
  3. Just so I know, what is the source for those gaphs? I see them on lots of foruns and I'd like to know who is responsible for them, so I can check them out directly next time. I'm kind of a noob with gpus
  4. And so are the AMD proprietary drivers, which are the ones that deliver performance. On the open source drivers, I get half the fps on my games
  5. I don't think so. According to Gpuboss the r9 270x should be better than the gtx 950 on Windows.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. About Linux support, even tough AMD is more friendly towards open source, Nvidia's drivers give more performance. As I said on my first post, the R9 270X performs like a Gtx 950 on Ubuntu with the proprietary AMD drivers installed. It is good enough for the games I play right now, but if you are not familiar with linux gaming, a lot of games run like garbage on AMD hardware because they are developed in close relation to Nvidia, so having an Nvidia card, even a weaker one, will result in better performance than any AMD card. About price, my main option is an used well conserved Gtx 770 that is going for about $266,00. A new full price Gtx 970 here is about $439,00.
  7. Hello, everyone! My PC currently runs Ubuntu and I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU. Since Nvidia support for Linux is great, I'm thinking about switching my R9 270X for a card from team green. However, because here in Brazil we are in a deep sh*t, the prices for the Gtx 900 series are horrible. Because of that, I was thinking about getting a used Gtx 770. I have a 600W 80 Plus PSU, so in terms of power I should be covered. My doubt is the following: is it a relevant upgrade from the R9 270X? Bear in mind that the amd drivers on linux are lacking. For example, the Gtx 950 delivers the same performance than my R9 on Ubuntu. Thanks for any help
  8. Thanks mate! I probably won't be able to go exactly with what you pointed out, because here in Brazil prices are a bit different, but you gave me some nice guidelines
  9. What would you guys build considering the purpose I stated before for the rig? I'd like to see suggestions
  10. The problem is I'm in Brazil, so prices and parts availability are fairly wonky compared to Canada and Us
  11. I think I'll go with the ssd for the laptop. Either that, or coming with a diferent build config.
  12. Well, thanks for the answers, glad to know the build is a flop before buying anything
  13. Hello, guys! I'm planning a build for my girlfriend and I'd like it to be micro Atx, while still allowing her to have the needed performance. She is no enthusiast pc gamer, but she enjoys the ocasional TF2, don't starve and other light 2d and 3d games (mostly on the TF2/CSGO range). Also, she uses a lot of Photoshop for digital art. Currently, she is used to a Haswell 1.7Ghz i5 notebook, with 8Gb of Ram and a mobile nvidia Gpu. For cost and small form factor reasons, I'm thinking about using this config: CPU: A10 7850k RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB 2400MHz DDR3 CL11 Mobo: Asus A88xm plus HDD: 1TB WD Blue Case: Thermaltake Core V21 PSU: EVGA 430W 80 Plus White DVD Drive Since the A10 is quite capable for light games, I was thinking about going for a no GPU build, which I can upgrade later anyway. What do you guys think? I want her to be able to run her PC at 1080p and play the games I mentioned at 60fps smoothly. I'm installing Windows 8.1 on it, by the way. Thanks in advance for any help
