  1. i think that you should... but im not 100% sure, so i post on your thread for it to get attention from more people!
  2. you might try the witcher series (especially the second one) if you havent already. Also the mount and blade series, these are quite old, but man can this be fun (battles of 150vs150 first or 3rd person in the medieval era, where you command your army, like archers go there and stay back, cavalry charge and all this good stuff, it can get really precise if you want. the gameplay is chivalry-like, where you direct your sword strikes and counters, or you opt for the simplified controls and it gets skyrim-like, and you have to manage your army, accomplish quests and become a vassal or create your own kingdom, etc.) i recommend mount and blade warband. Also you could try far cry and/or just cause 2 (JC2 is a LOT of fun, and quite cheap at the moment) Oh, and if you like skyrim, did you try total conversion mods? its like having a new game really with the good ones.
  3. ok, if its a different plug, do you know what the new current is? (or if its any different, i dont know how it works in new zealand) search for it and make sure it is in the range accepted by your psu, if not, well i'm sorry but you will have to change your psu... i had that problem moving from canada to europe...
  4. Did you move to somewhere with a different electrical output? if not, the noise is definitely not normal, but not necessarily harmful. I would not tempt the devil though and unplug my pc until its fixed. I would consider going to an electronics store with it and make them check if its ok. If you moved to somewhere with a different power output, you might check if your PSU fits the current (written on the side of the unit). It probably will, but sometimes instead of automatically switching to the good voltage and/or Hz it has to be switched manually, it should be a small switch besides your psu power switch on the back. Oh, and lastly i would check in your new house if the electricity is ok, i mean, the problem is not necessarily coming from your psu, maybe the current you get isn't constant or something. hoping to have helped!
  5. My mother calls me, saying the laptop she bought for my father was he worst, and that it wasn't worth what they payed for, so i asked her why did she say that, and maybe say what is wrong so i could fix it, and she answers: "the trackpad is so bad the cursor sticks and everything"... i bought her a mouse... this laptop suddenly became the best computer she ever bought...
  6. hem... i don't know if you know something i dont but i always thought the only thing modified in your HDD was the way the disc is magnetized... so...
  7. gtx 950's are quite cheap at the moment, if you want an alternative to amd (WAIT!!! i don't want to start WW3, i am NOT critiscizing amd cards...) you can get the ftw edition for 180 $ i think.
  8. what are the prices you would pay for each of these? oh and what are the rest of your specs?, because this will determine if you can run games that need more than 2 gb of vram...
  9. I recently got this cpu cooler its a zalman zf1125bth. I have noooo idea how good it might be, because i dont know how to measure the performance of cpu coolers. I have the project to OC a core 2 quad q6600 with it if its any good. Could it work? is this thing any good?
  10. thanks to everyone that replied, i'm changing psu and adding more case fans next weekend... should be fine now...
  11. I recently moved to France (from Canada) and my rig came with me obviously. I checked the psu and it said on it that the 220 V over here should be fine, but here, after about an hour or two of gaming, my rig just shut downs. (it didn't do that before in Canadia, so i thought about the psu, since the electricity is i think about the only factor that changed). What do you think it is? can this be "repaired" or do i have to change my power supply? or maybe its something else? (by the way my psu is an old 475 watts that came with an hp workstation xw4600, on the hp website it only says: 475 watts wide-ranging, active Power Factor Correction, 85% Efficient R475 watt (continuous) 80 PLUS efficient power supply. (yes, i know, shame on me...)) I dont have access to it since im in class right now. i'll edit this later with more info. Thanks to anyone willing to help me!
  12. depends on what you want to do with your cpu. with that cooler you can get some serious overclocking done with your cpu, and in that case, new stuff can be good, and will also last longer over the years, as it will not dry out. then if you don't want to risk it and dont want a hassle, using the pre-applied is still pretty good!
  13. It IS MUCH easier than you think to fry components with static electricity. Ordering an anti-static wrist wrap (which are cheap anyways) can be a life saver, especially around those shiny new expensive parts you got yourself there. also DONT FORGET TO ORDER THERMAL PASTE!!!! (happened to me, had everything, pumped up to build, only to find out i had forgot thermal paste, and shipping took a week)
