  1. Funny, I just built my build last night and one of the psrts I had to give up on was the cpu cooler third party. The brackets that came with deep cool were not correct length to screw into the msi motherboard cpu socket holes. So I had to put the amd one on instead and contacted deep cool about it.
  2. Thank you! I decided to go with deepcool of those four, as it’s the only one that would arrive before Saturday!
  3. I’m planning on using photoshop for school and gaming on the weekends playing steam games like tomb raider. Pretty open to having some “fun” with RGB and price around 50 dollars or so. Thanks!
  4. Wha do you think? For a 4K photoshop and gaming monitor does it hold its ground?
  5. https://evedevices.com saw this ad on Facebook (I know) and wanted to know from you guys if this was a legit company to invest in?
  6. Anyone recommend or know of a good keyboard keycap sampler?
  7. If so, I’ll cancel the first order so I can save money and time keyboard, mouse, speakers and case fans are what I have left to go!
  8. The PSU will be delayed so i ordered a second one https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07WQYM74W?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 This should come within the next week. Is this one still ok for my specs? 3600, 5700xt
  9. What are your thoughts on the LG 27UL500-W? It’s a lot cheaper while only missing the adjustable stand.
  10. https://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop/product/HMUA2VC/A/lg-ultrafine-4k-display While twice the price as some of the recommended monitors, i do wonder if this is a good option since i do plan on connecting my MacBook to it, while using it for adobe photoshop work on my pc.
  11. I have struggled to find the right motherboard for my build. I have 2000 budget and will be using it for college, photoshop work as a photography major. I have a 5 3600 and 2700xt with 32 gb ram. I want a motherboard that is B550, preferably comes with WiFi. My case only has usb 3.0 and 2.0 on the front (with audio too), so no usb c front headers are required. I plan to have 4 fans. MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge WiFi Gaming This is what i bought. I plan to also have a blue ray disk drive, a few hard drives down the road, and currently will use a nvme to run windows for photoshop and a SATA ssd for Linux gaming. Is this going to work out for me? Or did i make a poor choice?
  12. G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-32GVKC I ordered this after reviewing YouTube reviews and recommendations for higher builds. Photography student building pc, adobe photoshop use and steam gaming. 3600 and 5700xt i want 32 GB ram minimum. I have a 2000 dollar budget, so about 100-200 for ram. Any suggestions?
  13. I am fine with wired or wireless. I did some measurements using the forum’s guide and my results were Length: 12.19 cm Width: 6.86 cm I definitely liked https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xgrcCJ/razer-deathadder-elite-wired-optical-mouse-rz01-02010100-r3u1 when I tried it at Best Buy pre-COVID. They had a 50 dollar keyboard that was comfortable too. I am currently using my magic keyboard for the iPad Pro and i love it... so maybe something similar? I also loved the 2015 MacBook Pro keyboard, before they switched to the butterfly ones.
  14. I think it’s interesting how of all hardware for a PC, the PSU has been the hardest for me to dissect, from interpreting biases to determining true value and quality. I have a 3600 and 5700xt The PSU I announced i bought won’t arrive for another week and a half, so I’m very much still open for other suggestions.
  15. I ended up with several options and chose Seasonic Focus GX-550, 550W 80+ Gold due to when it would ship, as all of them had different shipping dates. I hope i made a good choice... the other choices i had in my cart were Seasonic Focus GX-650 Cooler Master MPY-7501-AFAAG-US MWE 750 Gold Full Modular, 80+ Gold Certified 750W Power Supply, 5 Year Warranty be quiet! Straight Power 11 550W, BN617, Fully Modular, 80 Plus Gold, Power Supply
  16. I am an apple sheep, i have used magic keyboards and Magic Mouse for years. I had to sell my iMac for college recently because they require PCs for my major, photography. While i suppose I could just get a keyboard and mouse from apple again, I’d rather give the pc world a chance. I want a backlit keyboard and maybe a mouse that doesn’t hurt my hand as much. Any suggestions for a mouse and keyboard for a photographer using photoshop? I do plan on gaming, but i have a ps4 controller for that. (Mostly Tomb raider). https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pyMbMc Here’s my spec list if it’s needed
  17. My GPU is a rx5700xt I definitely recognize the need to decide between one or the other, and of course i would choose photo over gaming. I’m doing photography for school and they recommended a monitor from NEC. One “issue” is that i want to get a MacBook Pro later and would want to be able to plug the laptop into the same monitor as well.
  18. I made a tough choice to sell my iMac 5k in exchange for a PC I can have more control over. But i got used to that 5k monitor, 27 inch display. So, i want to know what’s a good 300-750 dollar display that can be 4K, but preferably good for photography (which is what i bought the iMac for), with bonus of handling games well (60-144hz monitor is fine, not required)?
  19. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bT8KrV I am working on completing my first gaming and photoshop build. I have already begun ordering some parts and am currently figuring out motherboard, PSU and case. I read that any reputable brand works if the railing and wattage is appropriate. I’m eying the gold rating and 650 as my lowest with 750 being more preferred. With shortages i recognize there’s a limitation to my options. But i also want to make sure I’m not confusing brand bias recommendations with truly solid choices. I read that EVGA is disliked by many, but others don’t like thermaltake either. And corsair had to recall some of theirs recently? Anyway, i am willing to put between 90-150 on a power supply, I am just worried about the branding and the right wattage and rating.
  20. I am sorry for not providing enough details. I was on mobile trying to explain things, never easy. Started photography major a semester ago. Used iMac. Loved it. New semester this fall ,required to use Adobe. I hate adobe and don’t want it plaguing my mac. So i sold iMac, made 1700. Trying to build a hybrid Linux gamin (for steam, not all of my steam games ran on mac) and windows 10 pc for adobe photoshop to run on. I do plan to buy a MacBook Pro later this year so i can retain the macOS experience, but school will be on windows. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZWwRmg My specific questions: B450 and B550 are basically out of stock. I am willing to wait, but i do not want to wait more than this week if possible, as I’d like to have my parts shipped and built and running smoothly before august. I prefer AMD, so now the question is, do I strategically find a board generation that is still in stock and can handle my needs without breaking the bank NOW, or is it worth the wait? I purchased my tower last night, and I’m excited for it. I measured and GPU will fit, etc. I am wondering the most efficient fan setup to ensure my CPU and GPU are properly cooled, as well as my SSD if neede. Spreading of SSDs, i bought two of them and am not sure which is “better”. WD_Black SN750 500GB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe, M.2 2280, 3D NAND - WDS500G3X0C Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 500GB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology (MZ-V7S500B/AM) I am not sure, but i think i will run windows 10 with photoshop on the nvme, and Linux on my SATA ssd i already have. Unless photoshop will use the speed of the cpu more, then i might put Linux on it instead. IDK yet. PSUs are hard for me. Too many named brands that are recommended. I want to aim for 650-750 and a rating of bronze or gold. But due to market issues there aren’t a lot availabile. Any suggestions on brands? I want to avoid brand loyalty. I’m willing to invest between 300-600 for now in a good enough photography monitor that can bonus game well. My professions suggested NEC brand, while apple sells a dell/lg variant. I mention this because i wanted to use my MacBook Pro to hook up to the same monitor in the future (if it allows) so i can use windows some days and mac others. I’ll update with further questions and i hope this gives a good start
  21. I should have clarified, I have two ssds, one running Windows for adobe and the other running Linux for gaming. Dual boot
  22. Budget (including currency): $1800 USD plus change Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: adobe photoshop, Lightroom (photography student), plus Linux steam gaming (hobby) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I’m a digital photography student now, just sold my iMac 27 inch 5k for 1700 and I have some extra cash so about 1800-2000 is my budget. ive currently purchased: ryzen 5 3600 (w plans to upgrade to 4000 series end of year) Rtx 5700 xt 8 gb G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Fractal Design Focus G Mystic Red ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500gb nvme ssd - - - my biggest issue right now is finding a b550 motherboard, figuring out a good PSU and deciding on a good 4K monitor that won’t break the bank.
  23. Thank you for the replies so far. I forgot to include a few extras in my original post. I already have both a SSD and laptop sized HDD that I was going to use for now, so that wouldn't have to be considered in my build. The past week talking with friends and reviewing internet links, I have found AMD's lineup very enticing compared to my previous understanding of intel. For the price and with future releases I may consider AMD's line. The 500 dollars essentially should just going a motherboard, CPU, cooling system (shouldn't expect anything fancy since I'm playing Minecraft and windows xp cd games), the ability to add a GPU, a modest power supply and ram. I was going to start with 8GB of ram and if I really felt the need, upgrade to 16. The 'upgrade down the road" part of my plans essentially included the GPU and the extra ram as needed. Since Im not editing videos or playing 4k games I felt it was safe to use integrated graphics for the time being. Thank you again.
  24. Hello, I wish to build my first computer for my family. I have self taught myself the basics of hardware and have observed computers being put together and repaired. I am confident in learning and using this as an experience. My goal is to build a foundational gaming pc that is preferably 400-500 US dollars up front and perhaps 750 total build by the end of the year (after expanding it). I want a computer that won't blow my limited budget, but that can be a good foundation for future upgrades. I'm more interested in compatibility with all my parts, with an emphasis in the CPU and a motherboard that can support and handle a modest graphic card addition in the future. The aesthetics of the case are not important, function over form. This computer should be an all around family computer but with the future of gaming in mind. Not serious 2019 latest titles gaming, and not streaming or 4k video editing. Our games of choice include Minecraft, Everquest, steam games such as Planet Coaster, and windows xp/98 era games such as Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. I currently use a VM with windows 7 to play these games. I am personally not a fan of Windows 10, but am aware of it's benefits to the modern gaming system. I prefer Windows 7, and am open to exploring Linux if there are any benefits. I have mostly invested myself in the Apple ecosystem, so I realize my gaming options are limited and wish to build a custom PC. I've self researched enough to understand that my motherboard needs to be able to support a future graphics card, while still handling gaming in the meantime. I heard that the latest i3 is a decent competitor, but others have told me to always pick i5 at the least. Even more friends have told me that AMD is looking very solid for the future of gaming and I could save money switching to them. I am open to suggestions and just want a future proof gaming desktop that can be expandable and handle mostly gamily and some light work in office, etc. I already have both a SSD and laptop sized HDD that I was going to use for now, so that wouldn't have to be considered in my build. The 500 dollars essentially should just going a motherboard, CPU, cooling system (shouldn't expect anything fancy since I'm playing Minecraft and windows xp cd games), the ability to add a GPU, a modest power supply and ram. Since Im not editing videos or playing 4k games I felt it was safe to use integrated graphics for the time being. i have a cheap monitor, keyboard and mouse. Basically I just need a tower. Thanks in advance fo any help. I want this to be a learning opportunity and I hope to be able to learn how to build a budget gaming computer that is expandable in the future.
