    I'm on the same thought pattern. Wait for the ti, or go with the 1080.

    SNIT reacted to nycesquire in Antimemetic: Scratch-built, Fully Passive, GTX 1080, SFF
    Let’s start at the bottom: Antimemetic rests on four 20-gauge copper pyramids.  They need to leave space between them for the user’s choice of cable routing, so I chose 123mm square posts.  Here they are, straight out of the box.

    Important to protect them with a little masking tape prior to work.

    The pyramids themselves are hollow: designed not to bear much weight, but to decoratively cap fence posts.  As such, they’ll need some kind of filler before I’ll trust them to bear Antimemetic’s weight. I chose Bondo because, well, it’s perfect for the job. It is medium-weight and will probably adhere to the copper. If not, no sweat; plenty of ways to join the two. Worst case scenario, we get a perfectly snug-fitting form for the Bondo. Here we are applying the first layer.

    It’s important to apply Bondo in layers if you plan to go 3d like this. Otherwise, you risk the outside drying before the inside, creating an egg situation – hard shell on the outside, wet yolk inside.  We’re going for a solid core so that won’t do.  I’ll let this dry for a bit, and then start applying the layers.  Next update should provide solid, filled, feet.
    What do you think?

    SNIT reacted to DocSwag in Other sources wrong, Pascal not taped out in June, potentially still in testing
    According to https://semiaccurate.com/2016/02/01/news-of-nvidias-pascal-tapeout-and-silicon-is-important/ the recent news about Nvidia taping out Pascal in early June and having Pascal silicon and stuff is all false.
    If you guys have been following Nvidia news recently you will probably have heard about the Zauba shipping thing about Nvidia. Many sites took this as Pascal silicon being ready and tested.
    However Semi Accurate has disproved this and instead showed that these shipments are of testing tools.
    Basically these shipments are for testing tools, and Nvidia is getting ready to test its first Pascal silicon, or in the process of doing so.
    This means Pascal is only being actually printed around this time.
    If this is all true (and it probably is, if you ask me it makes a ton of sense) then AMD is a crap ton ahead of Nvidia. AMD had working Polaris samples that they showed off at CES. Their first silicon must have been at least a few weeks before, placing the tape out time of Polaris at early December/November at the latest.
    This would mean AMD is over a month, if not 2 months ahead of Nvidia. If AMD gets to market first then they could have a huge lead since AMD 14nm Polaris would be competing with 28nm Maxwell.
    Of course, it is possible this is false, so we never know.
    However all those rumors about Pascal taping out in June were with no doubt false.

    SNIT reacted to Godlygamer23 in Why are we lacking computer programmers?
    Programming is a very time consuming task. I've seen code for small programs and thought it was a lot, so perhaps the overwhelming factor is a huge contributor to lack of interest in programming.

    SNIT reacted to burnttoastnice in [PHP & MySQL] Update Website Data Dynamically?
    Adding to his answer, jQuery (a Javascript library) has an Ajax function which is pretty straightforward as well as the code being much shorter and much neater compared to the original Javascript function.

    Below is a simple modified jQuery ajax example I got from sitepoint:

    $.ajax({      url: 'http://google.com',      success: function(data) { //See Note#1         alert(data);      },      error: function() { //see Note#2         alert("Whoops, Error");      }});
    Note#1: If the request is a success, the function would be called with 'data' holding the entire response of the webpage. For Google (the request in the example) it would return all the code on that page.

    Note #2: If there is an error, it will carry out this function. There are extra variables that can be put into either function to catch various elements of the HTTP response, such as the code (e.g. 404 not found, or 403 forbidden)

    Java can also be nice, especially to understand OOP.

    Java and C# are quite similar in how they work, ofcourse the language is a little bit different, but if you can java, then c# will be really easy.

    My uni didn't give us a choice of IDE, we given Eclipse and told "Here use that, but be careful of the Auto Correct options" and they were right the correction features are a trap a new programmer could easily fall into. That being said it is one of my favorites.

    Anyway, I'm a Software Engineering student with experience in:

    Python (made my first game with this)
    Java
    SQL
    XHTML
    aspx

    I've also dabbled in or am in the process of learning

    C#
    C++
    VB.NET

    I'm not really sure what I'm going to specialize in or weather I'll continue studies after my undergrad degree or not.
