  1. So Link Aggregation would not speed up the file transfer of a file from my NAS to my Computer but it would speed up the file transfer if 2 people on the network were requesting a file at the same time?
  2. I am getting a new NAS that supports Link Aggregation or teaming. I am getting a new switch the NETGEAR ProSAFE JGS524E 24-Port switch that supports Link Aggregation and I need a 2 port gigabit NIC that will work with my windows 10 computer so I can get fast transfer rates. I was wondering if this NIC will work with windows 10. If this NIC does not work or there is a better cheaper one I would appreciate a link. Thanks for your time. 3. I have a gtx 970 in my computer. I am trying to turn my computer into more of a work station and I need a quadro. I have decided on a m4000 based on benchmarks on the CAD software I am using SolidWorks. I also use my computer for a little gaming and would like to still used my gtx 970. Can I have both the gtx 970 and the quadro in the computer at the same time and switch between them? If so what would be the most elegant way? Computer specks 5820k @4.2 GHZ 16GB RAM
  4. would something like this soot my needs for a router and nas http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-R610-Server-2-x-QUAD-CORE-PROCESSORS-16GB-RAM-PERC6i-DVD-iDRAC6-/181658073910?hash=item2a4baa3b36
  5. excluding drives and the rendering part of the server. how much would it cost to get a used server 2 cpu server for a nas and a router
  6. I am sorry for the incomplete post I just edited it it was an accident
  7. I am looking to buy a used server on Ebay. I would like 2 cpus and 32+ gigs or ddr3 ram. I need 4 3=TB hdd for the nas. I was thing about using freenas but because the servers I found all use raid controllers and to my knowledge do not have any sata/sas ports. What software should I use for the VMs Unraid? What should I used for the NAS software. I would like to keep the hole project under 550$ but it is ok to go over if it is absolutely needed. I would also like to be able to use this as a rendering compeer as well but it needs to be able to be more powerful in multi-threaded workloads that a 5820k in order for me to consider doing that but that is not necessary.
  8. Thanks for the info Electronics Wizardy with the concerns you raised I will probably not move forward in this project. But never the less it would have been vary inserting exploring old server hardware. I will probably wait a couple more years so I can pickup a couple of skylake CPS. Or buy a old duel socket server that can replace my pfsence computer and become a new NAS.
  9. graphic card sport with a 16x to 8x adapter is just fine no performance loss on a gen 2 slot?
  10. so you think that I will receive a noticeable multi threaded performance increase compared to a 5820k. Do you think there will be any problems running windows 10 or seven on this computer. What about drivers will old servers?
  11. I do a lot of 3d cad stressing my 5820K overclocked to 4.1GHz. I am constantly waiting for flies to poses for 2 or 3 minutes. I was think of buying a used Dell PowerEdge R900 Server 4x Xeon X7350 QC 2.93GHz 128GB 5x 1TB PERC6i RPS http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-R900-Server-4x-Xeon-X7350-QC-2-93GHz-128GB-5x-1TB-PERC6i-RPS-/172070117378?hash=item28102da002:g:6FIAAOSwP~tW1vZ5&autorefresh=true my thought was to load my cad programs on to a ram disk along with my files so loading times would be reduced. I would put a quadro in the server by a pci 16x to 8x adapter. However I do not know if this server would run windows 10 or 7. I would also like to know the performance of the CPUs. According to http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-X7350-vs-Intel-Core-i7-5820K the performance of 4 xeon x7350 would be 3.11 times faster the the 5820k. This is the speck list for the server http://www.dell.com/us/dfb/p/poweredge-r900/pd the server runs windows server 2008 can windows server 2008 run windows 10 in a virtual machine will little to know performance hits or would I be beater of not using windows server and just installing window 10 or 7. I appreciate your time and am open to suggestions
  12. Try to update the mother board bios. I had a motherboard that would not post or install windows with some usb devices. After the bios update it worked fine.
  13. I would recommend that you get the Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard in stead of the other one. You would be better of investing in rgb strips and if you need wifi by a 30-50$ pci express card. Do wast you money. Maybe consider buying a new keyboard instead like the Corsair k70 rgb. Or you could also buy some glass from the hardware store so you do not have to have a tinted plastic window and you will be able to see the rgb lighting that way. I did that on my case all you need is a grinder and a file. The hardware store will know what adhesive you need.
  14. As long as you do not need an extra 1 x PCI Slot that the ASUS H81M-C/CSM board has just get the cheeper one. There is not much difference. By the way make sure that you install AI Suite 3 not for overclocking but for there custom fan tuning software so your computer is much quieter.
  15. You most likely do not need to replace it unless it is causing you trouble or you are maxing it out all the time.
