Hello! My Junior ROP Media/Tech class at my high school has just given us an amazing gift......

The Adobe Suite for everyone! For free!!! We get to keep it for the lifetime of the machine and we get a copy of the installer that we received from Adobe directly to allow us to reinstall the programs should any issues with our machines come around.

Not only did we get all of those amazing programs, but we also received a full computer lab overhaul just for us!

The new PCs every student is running on are a custom variant of the Dell Precision Tower 3,000 Series (3620 I think but I only know the specs, not the exact model number)
    Specs:
    CPU: i7- 6700k
    RAM: 16GB 2133MHz
SSD: 512GB NVMe Solid State Drive
    GPU: Nvidia Quadro M2000 4GB
Monitors: 1440p Dell Ultrasharp 27" InfinityEdge

Its safe to say, this is going to be a very productive and very fun year!

(especially because we were all on old 2010 iMacs running windows 10 which isnt technically supported.....)

In America, Comcast/Xfinity has free Norton Security Virus if you use that service provider. AT&T Gives free McGaffee. I don't know what Frontier or some of the other companies use. That said, I'd buy anti-virus software, and not trust any of the "Free" Programs (excluding Windows Defender, but not that if you do not have the latest version of Windows, you have a higher chance of a virus due to Windows being such an easy platform to hack). That said, if you don't think you'll be on sketchy websites, I'd just stick with Windows Defender. I can't think of a time in my life when I've not used Norton though, since it has some other uses such as a file clean up in the software, and since they specialize in virus-protection, they have to be responsible, where as Microsoft doesn't need to be.

    Hope this helps,

Depending on where you live and what you do, most universities and other schools give free Antivirus  (paid versions) because of bulk license agreements.
I would recommend AVG or Kaspersky. Malwarebytes is very good. Yes they are very well known for anti-malware/adware, but they do also do anti-virus.
Spy Bot Search and Destroy is awesome, and I recommend this as well.

I would stay clear away from Avast. I have not had anything good happen with that company

I would go for Headphones. More options in terms of sound isolation, as well as not having to deal with IEMs falling out.

In Ear Monitors are actually designed for this purpose. They were originally meant for drumming/singing/mixing and live performance. They offer vastly superior noise isolation compared to headphones, and many of them are specifically tuned in sound signature for this purpose. Good brands to consider in your price range are Shure, Westone, and many more I cant name off the top of my head at the moment.

IEMs basically never stay in for me. A good fitting pair of headphones stay on better and are more comfortable for long periods from my experience.

I was referring the to range of noise isolation available, not just how much they can block out. When playing music, you don't necessarily want lots of noise isolation as it can hurt your ability to hear the other instruments.

I would recommend getting something like a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2,  it has 2 inputs either XLR or 1/4" and phantom power for future microphones.  I use two different pieces of software, Ardour (Linux and OSX only [you can compile it for windows but it is not recommended) and Mixcraft 6 (windows only version 7 released already).  A good simple free one  is audicaty.  What computer do you have and what are the specs.  My desktop uses a 4690K and I only reach about 50% cpu usage at stock when outputting a 3 hour file in .wav.  Mixcraft for example requires a 1.5Gh dual core and 1 GB of ram, and a sound device.

Well that was a suggestion that many people go with, I personally use a Tascam US122MK2, but it is out of production, but there are many products that are similar.  Presonus is a decent brand as well.  I feel the only thing that might be slow is the processor.  My laptop is ann i5 with hyperthreading and it has no trouble recording and scrubbing through the audio.  I would say give audacity a try it may be a little difficult to  edit the audio, but I have done it.  If you dedcide to get a new computer and want to spend the money, it doesn't have to be a mac,  get  a computer that you think will do the job to your satisfaction, mine laptop is a 600 dell that I got because of the wireless card.
Here is the link to audacity for windows page: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/
This is similar to what I have, I got the kit with mine and the mic is actually pretty good

Yes, while you are correct in saying there is a "professional opinion" part of the forum, I have experience with most technological issues (from server all the way to mobile), so I tend to go through the normal trouble shooting algorithm (is it plugged in? Is it the hardware? Is it the device? Is it the operating system? etc). So it would be nice to have an option to have it there already. For example, if I am having a browser issue, I tell the company my OS, RAM/Memory, and Graphics because it will exclude any system errors.

Hope this further explain my rant.

Alright i got it. Problem is, most of the times the person asking for help probably wont have even tested one of those options, hence why they couldnt see the "What the user has already done to attempt to solve its problem" being sought enough to justify. Would be nice to add it tough, especially if in a similar way to question polls.

Are you paying for a gigabit connection? Most consumer level stuff that says that it is gigabit are really only talking about its internal network speed and not your internet speed.

I have somewhat of a problem with that. Certainly, we don't know everything there is to know about science. But we learn more every day. Scientists make discoveries every day.

The problem with the Supplement industry isn't science. It's the LACK of science. Pretty much every study I've ever heard of, on the subject, shows that supplements, for 99% of healthy people, are pointless, wastes of money. In some cases, you can even do harm to your body by taking too much of certain supplements.

Not to mention you're basically playing the Lotto in terms of what's actually inside a supplement. Could it be Vitamin B-12? Maybe. It might also be dried Horse Piss.

The point about supplements, is that you should only take them at the recommendation of your Doctor. I wouldn't even take them if my PT recommended it. I'd take their recommendation to my Doctor and be like "Yo, is this legit?" Getting a good balanced diet isn't that hard, and it's more effective then taking random possibly misleading supplements.
