  1. Why do Nvidia not allow 3rd parties to sell Titans with custom coolers?

I mean we can make great guesses as to what the actual reasons are, but in the end we may never know.

Nvidia probably wants at least their big league card to have a visual cue, so people always know from looking at it that it's an Nvidia graphics card.

  2. I was referring to board partners. Gigabyte, MSI, etc...

EVGA isn't allowed to either if you're looking at it from that point of view.

They aren't selling this on Titan X, they're selling it as a stand alone aftermarket cooling solution.

And if Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Galax, etc wanted to sell their heatsink as a stand alone cooling solution, or bundle it with the Titan X, Nvidia probably wouldn't stop them.

It's the same thing Gigabyte did with the Titan black, where they included their Windforce heatsink in the box but you had to put it on yourself since Nvidia won't let them sell a Titan with a custom cooling solution already on it.

    • Bundle with WINDFORCE 3X 600W Cooling system
    • Powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN BLACK GPU
    • Integrated with industry's best 6GB GDDR5 memory 384-bit memory interface
    • Features Dual-link DVI-I/ DVI-D / HDMI / DisplayPort
    • BASE:1006MHz / BOOST:1111 MHz
    • System power supply requirement: 600W

  3. Good to see there's an option for folks running on air. I wouldn't say it's an option for those who can't afford water cooling, because needles to say I think anyone who owns one can-- even if it's only a graphics card loop. Air cooling and maintenance is inherently simpler.

I mean Arctic Cooling has had options available for a long time already...but I guess more is better when it comes to options.

  4. Has anyone else noticed intense flickering with Gsycn with regards to the backgrounds/sky in Witcher 3?

Gsync has a problem with showing static images, it's mostly only seen on loading screens where an image is held without refreshing while the bar fills up but with the Witcher 3, the sky and some background images seem to have the same problem. I was wondering if it's a gsync issue or simply a problem with my hardware.

    I'm running

2X 980's in SLI on a 5820k overclocked to 4.3ghz @ 4k on a Acer XB280HK, running everything on Ultra. I get fantastic FPS but the flicker forces me to turn off Gsycn off. With Gsync off it playes just fine but I get all the bullcrap one normally expects when running a non gsync monitor.

Do you have MSI afterburner or the rivatuner OSD open?

It's been known to sometimes conflict with games and cause various issues.

  5. I'm not upset, but then again I'm no longer inclined to buy/play it.

I mean I was never hugely drawn towards the witcher series in the first place, however with how the graphics looked in 2013 I figured I'd give it a chance anyway.

Now.......no incentive to go for it.

It still looks good, it just doesn't look amazing.

  6. WHQL just means the driver was certified by Microsoft. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a good driver. TechPowerUp has became a part of the NVIDIA PR machine.

P.S. It's only been about 23 days as 15.200.1023.0 is WHQL certified.

Isn't that driver exclusive to Windows 10?

I do agree with most of what's been posted above, I could care less about the WHQL certification if the drivers are solid.

  7. But isn't the M.2 connector is directly on the PCIe-bus, which whould limit 4 of the GPU's lanes?

Most Z97 boards use additional chipset lanes for M.2, not ones from your CPU.

And on Z97 most m.2 slots only have 2 lanes, not 4.

This means that even if there were an m.2->SFF 8643 card available for Z97 right now it'd still only use 2x pcie 2.0 lanes that have more latency added because of it using chipset lanes and not CPU lanes, and as a result the SSD would not run as well as it has the potential to.

The product page says 4 lanes because the only M.2->SFF 8643 cards available are made for X99, and X99 has 4 CPU pcie lanes for the m.2 slot.

The GPU usually uses the CPU pcie lanes, so it would have no effect.

And even if the GPU had a few less lanes it wouldn't matter since no single consumer GPU currently available uses anywhere near the full bandwidth of PCIE 3.0 x16.

Even if you were to run the GPU at PCIE 3.0 X4 you'd see very little if any degradation in performance in most scenarios.

Just trust me on this, buy the PCIE add-in version instead of the clumsy m.2-> SFF 8643 version.

  8. @Epicness9138 fairly sure most m.2 on Z97 take/use 2 lanes, so the SSD 750 would run considerably slower on a Z97 pcie 2.0 x2 m.2 slot.

And the PCIE version would use 4 lanes.

Also there's no m.2 add-in card that currently works with Z97 unless I'm mistaken.

Z97 usually routes the m.2 slot through the chipset rather than using the CPUs lanes, so it adds latency.

    @MegaDave91 @ManIkWeet

    Aren't m.2 slots on Z97 usually limited to 2x pcie 2.0 lanes?

    http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2015/04/17/msi-reveals-m-2-to-turbo-mini-sas-card/1

Where only X99 boards have 'tubo m.2' with 4x pcie 3.0 lanes?

Overall from what I can tell you're recommended against purchasing the m.2->SFF 8643-> SSD version unless you're on X99.

  9. nice joke.....hahaha.... :D

but i heard that 980 or 980sli is overkill for 1080p??????

Not so much overkill, more so that you're spending $200 more per card for a relatively small amount of performance.

I mean if you're spending $500-$700 then, imo, you should go for the 295x2 over the single GTX 980.

  10. Overall this is the usual base price for the 500R, but right now you get a $10 promo gift card and can apply for the $20 rebate after purchasing it so the total cost to you would be $69.99.

The lowest this case has gone before, even with rebate, has been $79.98 so this is a pretty great deal.

I personally don't like the mesh on the side rather than a side panel window, however I'm sure there are people who like it and if you prefer you can buy the metal side panel from Corsair without the fan mesh for $20 and still come out $10 ahead.

EDIT:This deal is available for both the black and white variants.

  11. You're not understanding.

I was responding to a comment that was directed at the OP which are about the new Radeon cards.

So with the radeon triple gpu card you weasel out by saying it wasn't released and we should all know you meant a card that was released because kappa.png, and with the Voodoo triple gpu card you weasel out by saying you specifically meant radeon.

  12. Since you're going to keep going with it, you're taking this out of context to begin with.

I was responding to this post:

I could have been more specific, but I wasn't so your conclusion could be drawn, but I was more referring to what OP and Norwegian Guy was talking about, which is the contents in the OP.

    Okay fine.

3DFX's Voodoo line had dual gpu cards, triple gpu cards, and even quad gpu cards.

    And those were all released.

  13. The card wasn't released. GG.

You didn't say released lol, you said

If there's (contraction of there is) ever a triple-GPU card

and the EAH3850 X3 Trinity was, and therefore still is.

But if you want to back out and show us how little your word is worth then by all means go for it.
