  1. " i5-6400, single stick 8GB DDR3L, 7200 RPM HDD. Those are the main power hungry components"
  2. My friend works with a company that does A/V for events and he recently built a streaming/recoding box for broadcasting these events on Twitch. Now he's wanting to run 2 instances of OBS on the same machine and the hardware he put in it can't handle that so asked me to help him pick parts for upgrading. Currently, the new streaming box he built has an i5-8500, 8GB of RAM, and GTX 550Ti which can easily stream 1080p60 @ 5500 Kb/s and record locally using the stream renderer. His secondary streaming rig is an older thinkserver with a measly i3-4130 that can only do 720p30 @ 5500 Kb/s and locally recording using the stream renderer so he wants to just use his new machine with 2 instances of OBS and get rid of his secondary rig. So what kind of hardware would he need to upgrade too? He has to be able to run 2 instances of OBS with BOTH streaming at 1080p60 @ 5500Kb/s using the fast CPU preset (medium if possible) and BOTH recoding locally at 1080p60 @ 15-20 Mb/s using either NVENC or the AMD equivalent. I'm thinking he would need an i7-8700, but I'm not sure what GPU would be able to handle 2 1080p60 encodings. I know only 600 series and up support NVENC and it had to be a GTX series on the Nvidia side, I'm not too familiar with AMD options. He's ok with buying a used GPU on eBay to keep cost down it just had to handle the work, also because of the 3u case he's using the Logic Case SC-34390 the GPU cooler cant be taller than a full height PCIe slot and the power connector has to be on the back of the card. I saw some evga 650's and 650 ti's on eBay for under $100 which fit in the case, would those be powerful enough? If not what about a GTX 750ti or GTX 1050/1050ti since those don't require external power and have lots of variants that will fit in the case or whatever AMD card would work. I'm actually pretty sure a 1050 could handle it fine with no issue, I saw in Blunty's video that when he was using a 1050ti to encode a 1080p60 recoding it was well under 50% usage.

  4. Well you can’t overclock non K chips, technically you can increase the baseclock if your motherboard allows you too but usually not enough to make any difference. Also like I said a 320GB HDD + 240GB SSD would be enough for his uses and if he needs more space I can get a 1TB HDD for $50 ontop of the $290. As for RAM another 8GB would cost me $40 and that’s a lot with the budget I have.
  5. They both have 8GB of RAM, if they 3770 build had more RAM for that’s price then I would go for it.
  6. I'm building a budget rig for a friend and I was looking at refurbished systems, for $240 I could either get a i5-4670 system or for $315 a i7-3770 system. My friend is using it mainly for gaming but also some photo/video editing on the side. Originally I thought the i7-3770 would be the best choice because of the extra 4 threads would help it in editing over the i5-4670 while they would be similar gaming wise, but upon doing some research and looking at several benchmarks the answer isn't so clear. Looking at gaming benchmarks with a 980 ti both cpu's performed the same with the 4670 having only 3-5 fps more, but when it came to multicore performance and editing results weren't what I expected. Cinebench R15 shows the 3770 scoring ~100 points more in the multicore test (as expected), but a couple comparison video I watch showed both cpu's having negligible differences when rendering a video in premier pro with the 4670 winning by a couple seconds. I should mention the $315 system comes with a 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD included whereas the $240 system just comes with a 320GB HDD but I can add a 240GB SSD for only $50 more for a total of $290. The 120GB SSD + 320GB HDD wouldn't be that big of an issue since my friend would only be playing a couple esports games and all his photos and footage he has on an external drive. So now I'm not too sure if the i7-3770 is worth the extra money, with the tight budget I have I could put that extra $25 towards more RAM for the 4670, a better monitor or peripherals.
  7. Is that a stock card? Was that the same thermal paste that came on the card? Thats really interesting if that card is full stock, was the card running hotter than usual? FYI the thermal paste most likely isnt conductive so the board and the card should be fine, the paste was probably just preventing pins from making contact.
  8. The HDD in my families old desktop was dying and the windows 7 installation on it would no longer boot so I cloned the drive to a new healthy one before attempting to repair the windows install. I've booted up into the recovery mode and I've already run chkdsk, it gets to stage 4 then comes to a halt at 28% for a few hours before continuing. I tried running SFC but it giving me issue, with the "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" message. I ran chkdsk and it gave me no errors and I've already run the "ICACLS C:\Windows\winsxs" command and yet sfc still won't work. I can't seem to find any other info on a solution and I would prefer not to reinstall windows. I get a blue screen when trying to boot into windows normally or in safe mode, but the system reboots before the blue screen can stay on the monitor for more than a 1/10 of a second and the minidump folder is empty so I can't look at the BSOD logs. Also, would anyone know where to get a Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 32/64-Bit ISO? For some reason, the download page on Microsoft sees my key as the Korean version.
  9. I recently discovered that a small blob of thermal paste on my PCIe slot under my gpu, this seemed weird to me as the water block on my gpu was mounted properly and tightly. My GPU is vertically mounted so that could be the reason but I haven't found anyone else to have this issue with a vertically mounted GPU. Has only one else experienced this? Does anyone know what the cause could be and what a possible solution may be? The paste is just EK's Ectotherm paste that came with the block, thankfully its non-conductive so I don't think ill have any problems other than a mess and decreased thermal performance over time. Also, does anyone know a good way to remove thermal paste from PCIe slots?
  10. No problem, glad to help. With GPU prices finally starting to drop again nows a great time to get one.
  11. No, I used the original 180w PSU, it was to much trouble to find a higher end one or mod an ATX PSU. 180W is plenty for this card, when OEMs calculate the wattage for a system they factor in the power a PCIe slot can deliver. So in this model 35W(CPU)+20W(~10W/stick of ram)+75W(max possible PCIe power)+~10W(HDD)+~10W(chipset)+30W(other devices; fans, USB, other motherboard components, etc)=~180W total. Since the 1030 only uses 30W you have plenty of power available, even enough for a 1050ti since they draw only 75W and we’re designed to run off only PCIe slot power.
  12. Yep, it worked perfectly with no issues at all. The only concern I’ve had in the past few months of running this card in this system is that it does get hot, up into the 80s under load. I don’t know if this is the cooler limitation or the poor air flow in the case but even thought it runs hot it still turbos up to its max the whole time.
  13. Im looking for a ideal media for backing up data that meets my requirements: external portable the media itself must be decently rugged at least 3TB; more is better connected over either ethernet or USB (type-c is nice to have but not necessary) high transfer speeds (200MB/s+) not expensive (<$300CAD) some kind of incryption would be nice
  14. I'm upgrading my friend's system from a budget build he did a few years ago from an FX-4300 to an 8600K. I went with an 8600K specifically for the purpose of overclocking but I'm trying to find a good air cooler that can handle it overclocked to at least 4.5Ghz on all cores and hopefully 5GHz. The issue is that his case the Carbide 100R has a max CPU cooler high of 150MM which means my original idea for a Dark Rock Pro 3 or like is not an option. As for water cooling, my friend is not to keen on that idea.
  15. Huh, I didn't even know that card existed. I already went with the GT 1030, it still outperforms the GTX 745 anyways plus it consumes way less power.
  16. Sorry, when I said DVI-I I meant they probably were talking about a passive adaper using the analog part of DVI-I hence no input lag.
  17. Sorry, when I said DVI-I I meant they probably were talking about a passive adaper using the analog part of DVI-I hence no input lag.
  18. That makes sense, I was confused because I read on a site that DVI-D has lower input lag but they might have meant DVI-I, idk. So would you guys be able to recommend a certain adapter model?
  19. My bf's monitor only has a VGA input but his GPU only had DVI-D and HDMI and after looking around I'm more confused than when started. Is there a difference between DVI-D to VGA and HDMI to VGA? Specifically with input lag and quality since he plays competitive FPS like CS:GO and a converter with a noticeable input lag will obviously be un-ideal. He needs something that can do 1080P @ 60Hz while still looking sharp and good. So what would be the best one to use? Ideally, it would be better to get a monitor with either a DVI or HDMI input but money is an issue and doesn't want to spend more than $15 USD on the adapter.
  20. Yea it looks like I'll go with the Extreme, thanks for the help.
  21. That's very tempting but compared to the SanDisk Extreme, it's about $10 more expensive since I have to order it from the American Amazon because is somehow cost $160 on the Canadian Amazon. Plus for the lower price, the SanDisk Extreme has a slightly higher write rate and has AES encryption as a bonus but thanks for the suggestion.
  22. Wow, that is a good deal but unfortunately, I need the speed.
  23. What speeds were you getting on your Extreme? I looked around after posting this and it seems like the Extreme is drastically faster (up to 60MB/s faster on both read and write) than the Extreme Go even though the go is supposed to replace the Extreme.
