  1. Hey all, I'm in Canada and trying to plan an upgrade of my PC. However - I am stuck trying to figure out my best path. I don't have a lot of experience in value of old PC parts/systems and I am trying to figure out what I may be able to obtain for my old parts/system while I build it into the budget of my new PC. The two options I have are to either buy new parts and add them into my existing system (selling the old ones)... or to build a whole new PC and sell off this one as it is). The original parts include: Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait Edition Processor: i7 4790k (never ended up overclocking) Heatsink: Hyper 212 RAM: 16 GB Kingston (cant remember specifics) GPU: Asus Turbo GTX 970 OC PSU: Corsair 850 Modular Case: NZXT H440 (White) Looking for opinions if I am better off upgrading mobo, cpu, gpu, ram and selling separately... or if I am better off selling this system as a whole. If anyone has any insight as to what market value might be for the system I would appreciate it as well. I tried looking via kijiji/facebook marketplace but the prices were all over. I have not yet decided on other parts yet, but I am looking at an i5 10400 or a Ryzen 5 3600 as the new Proc replacement and work around that. Budget (including currency): Country: Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):
  2. Thanks to those that provided PC related replies... and to those debating over Windows 10 licensing and validity... GLHF I guess?
  3. Hey all, I am helping a friend that was interested in playing a few new games and get a VR setup running in the near future... but his old rig just won't cut it anymore. He is looking at around $2000 CAD. We have a few local Memory Express stores here, so we are playing around with its system configurator and I wound up coming up with the following: $339.99 CPU: i5 8600k $144.99 Motherboard: MSI Z370-A PRO $64.99 Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Ed. $9.99 (Thermal Paste) $489.99 GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 $169.99 RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4 2666MHz (2 x 8GB) $149.99 PSU: Corsair CS Series 750W Modular $94.99 Case: NZXT H500 Mid Tower Black/Red $309.98 Hard Drives: Samsung 860 EVO 1TB and Seagate 1TB FireCuda $199.99 OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit OEM Total with GST: $2073.64 I thought I would open this up to the masses to see what else could be thought up. He isn't too picky on how it looks, but I thought why not add some RGB in ;) ... and cable management would be a nice to have as well. Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! ... side note ... I have zero experience with AMD based builds (I've only built two personal PCs and both were i7s - 920 and 4790k)... so I am open to the suggestion of an AMD based system as well.
  4. Sorry I edited the post - it would be $2000 Canadian. Thanks for the suggestions Jeb and I would love to have that build Bob, unfortunately its a bit pricey (my fault for forgetting about Canadian currency - It pushes up to $2220 when I switch to Canada.
  5. Hello all, I have come up with the below system (thus far) and am looking for feedback regarding the build. Basically the system is going to be for gaming, streaming, video edits (of both shorter gaming clips and longer programming video tutorials), virtual machine work and various photoshop. I was trying to work off of a black/white theme and keep a cheaper price point. I heard that a 5820k would be a better processor but I am not sure the 2 extra cores is worth the increased processor, motherboard and RAM cost. I welcome any and all feedback! - its been a while since I have built a PC - so I figured I should ask around. Budget: Max $2000 after GST if possible - Canadian currency Current parts picked out: Case: NZXT H440 (White) - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX51620 Processor: Intel i7 4790k - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX52609 Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark S - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX55665 RAM: HyperX Fury Black 16GB DDR3 1866MHz CL10 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 8GB)-http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX51510 Video Card: Asus Turbo GTX 970 OC - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX57357 Power Supply: Corsair CX850M - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX54832 Note: I will be using the hard drives from my old PC (I have an SSD and a few SATAs). Eventually I will grab a new SSD down the road. I also have 2 23" monitors that will be carried over to this build as well. I would appreciate any comments or feedback! Thanks, Brad
