So i deside to forfil my dream and challenges my self to build something diffrent than your normal every day pc. Building two fully working pc´s inside 1 case and bofh machines powered by 1 PSU alone. The result can be seen in the pictures below and some of those custom made things as well, you can´t see all the custom parts i made for this project as they are hiden away or just not visable. I choose to keep it all aircooled, as it seem cpu´s after Zen 3 from bofh intel and AMD need´s water cooling do to the high power consumption nad core clocks, they get a lot hotter than exsample Zen 3. So this is proporly my last all aircooled pc.

Theme of my build is black where possible.

Intelfreak got a reaction from Slave2school in Should I keep my 5600x for a few generations?
5600X will keep you going for some time. But 6 cores is not as future prof as 8 cores.

But when or if you get a rtx 4090. 5600X will be a cpu bottleneck at times. This comes from one with a Ryzen 9 5950X and a rtx 4090. In some cases my 5950X is actually the bottleneck. So with 4090 you might want to consider a upgrade to get the full potential of 4090. But the solution for new cpu doesn't have to be that expensive. Look 5800X3D. That will work on am4 boards and is just around as fast as a new Zen 4 cpu in games. This cpu is a little gem for us am4 people. Just my advice.

Keep 5600X amd when you get 4090. You might want to consider 5800X3d. That cpu would better could feed 4090. Specially if you are a high fps gamer.

You are not the only one pointing that out. I have made a solution for that.

There are two fan controllers. One for each system. The side fans is running when the mini-ATX system is running. If ATX system is running, they do not run. Are bofh system running, the side fans are connected so that i can turn them of completely, so they do not discrupt airflow from the front intake fans that only runs when ATX is turned on.

I have dedicated fans to each of system and fan contoller. So not all fans are running when only one system is running and when bofh runs, i can turn of fans that are not needed or discrupt airflow as the side exhaust fans does when front intake is running.

I dit try to get a desent cable management and plan where to put components like HDD and fan controllers. There are hours of research put in to it as well to find the right parts and build time. This is not your avarage build i think i can say for sure. But thanks i nice to know i succeded my goal to get i to look nice.

I will be using the ATX system mainly for workstation/heavy load for my work (I do work from home at times and need some cpu power for that) and heavy gaming.

Mini-ATX is for use as a backup system if the main system fails as Downtown is a no no do to my work. Else mini-ITX is used for as a more power friendly every day use pc and just to use when ATX system is working and to stream to my tv. Also used for light gaming while i wait for ATX to finish work and cant game on that and a second pc when friends are over, so we can play games with out they have to take there own pc with them.

I was more a Intel man. But do to there constantly 14 NM++++++ bull crap and even Rocket lake failed to impress and used a butt load of power and alder lake might be faster in some games but use more power. I got feed up with Intel and Since AMD zen got faster and faster + more cores and power efficient. I desided to give AMD a chance and i hornestly don´t regret it.

Yes as stated. 12900K will get hotter do to higher clock, voltage but also higher alowed power draw. So yes, it will naturally run hotter and requires better cooling than 12900.

    System 1 (ATX) spec:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X (if a 5950X3D ever comes out, i considering to shift to that)

Deffently wait for your wife to get the xc3. You are better of with 12 gb vram than 10 gb vram. I have the FTW 3 card and 10 gb vram is not to much, specially for 4k.

So my sound advice is go for the 12 gb version. It will last you longer. It's not fun to run out of vram, it's a laggy mess to do so.

Ftz 3 need better cooling do to higher factory oc with 380 watt and power target can be raised to 400 watt. But you know what, 3080 12 gb is just as fast or faster. Do to more vram broadband and a few extra Cuda cores. So 3080 12 gb all the way.

I began this build over a yeah ago by getting parts home and then start building. But microchip shortage, corona and overpriced hardware made it a much more difficult process than i would like it to be.
So here are a few fotos of it. Sorry they are not so good all of them. My camera sucks, sorry.

So this is my new setup to take over from my old X58 system.

Why are people now discussing dark hero. Totally off topic.

Well I got my dark hero for several reasons. Overclocking with the asus dynamic oc switch, better vrm, the back i/o, no annoying stupid chipset fan that can fail over time, the looks fits perfectly in to my own builds dark/black theme.

So i got a new system. Actually 2 systems in one case. CPU´s are 5600X and 5950X.

5600X is limited by the cooler i use, a low profile noctua cooler. With a better cooler, it can deffently get higher scores.

    Stock

with PBO and my own powert limits as said. Cooler is limiting it and i have to limit power, else it would go to throttle temp.

5950X cooled by a Noctua NH-D15. So aircooled as well.

R20 with PBO and manuelt core OC combined.

    R23 stock

R23 with PBO and manuel core oc combined.

Intelfreak got a reaction from Jdept in Benefits of having an M.2 SSD as the OS drive
If you are still on HDD for OS, you have been missing out a huge performance boost over HDD for ages. My self got my first SSD back in 2010 and i have never locked back since then.

what ever we talk M.2 sata, M.2 NVme or normal sata SSD. they all have in common that they are by far faster than a harddrive. SSD will make your pc to boot faster, load games faster (but will not give you more FPS cause that is still done by CPU/GPU unless your hardrive i slower than a snail), programs will open faster and in generel use your pc will feels more responsive and will not have the problem of hanging while loading files unless your CPU cant keep up.

today in my opinion every pc shut have a SSD for OS drive and for gamers an SSD for games is also really nice specially if you run games with alot of load sekvenses.

Here my pc booting and shut down with a Samsung 950 PRO 256 GB M.2 NVMe SSD and this is a 8 year old X58 pc. Taken that in to account, i think my pc have a very respectable boot time after bios is finishing posting.

Dont be afraid of punishing your I7 980X, they can take a pretty good beating. Infact X58 boards and CPU a pretty hard to kill as long you stay away from high voltage and temps.

I have a I7 980X as well and i have had it oc to 4.4 GHz at 1.43 volts the past three years and even for benchmark up to 4.75 Ghz at 1.55 volts a cold winter day off cause and despeite it is still going strong. All throw before you begin to OC your chip, replace that Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo with a better cooler. Evo 212 is not gear to handle the heat out put a I7 980X can put out at 4.4 GHz. I am using a Noctua NH-D14 to keep my max core temp at 75-77 degress Celsious under full load.

Here is my bios settings for 4.4 GHz, uncore set to 3600 MHz. These voltage and setting are just a guide as your cpu might need higher voltage or has better silicone than my own so it can run with lower voltage as you do want if possible. lower voltage decrease heat out put, stress on the CPU´s transistors and will also mean a lower watt usage with will benefit your power bill. Note: the settings i am posting here is using the unlocked multiplier, you can overclock your I7 980X by BLCK as well if you prefer that, but that will need you to ajust more voltage than those i have a justed in bios now.

No the store I ordered one from, called me that they had gotten a few extra cpu home and asked if I whas still interested in one. Never had I dropped what I had in my hands this fast before and run out to my car and drive to the store.

And that is how I ended up with a Ryzen 9 3950X before Christmas. Still can't believe my luck on this. Also got a new nvme SSD to go with it.
