  1. Tell me about it. Cost just as much as a new motherboard. It´s madness how X58 boards still holding prices after over 10 years. Just the board i have ASUS P6X58D Premium cost just as much as a cheaper new board on ebay. While you can get CPU´s nearly thrown at you, boards cost a crap toon of money. Just check, even my old i7 980X can still give a pretty penny on ebay. How can over 10 year old hardware still cost so much, Its madness. Also for those that might want to have a last look at my old junk. can se it here. Cause in the coming months it will be taken a part and temporary replaced by a AMD Ryzen 9 3950X with motherboard. Its only temporary until I can afford a case and some other stuff to my new main rig after I get 3950X. When that is done. X58 will be up and running again as a mix of backup, retro gamer and guest gamer pc. https://imgur.com/a/NLahrg9
  2. Yes please with two high clock Xeon´s in it. I really cant think of better X58 porn than that. Can you?
  3. hmm exchange it to a EVGA SR-2 maybe. That would be porn?. Also that´s a pretty sweet overclock at that voltage above in the Cinebench run. What are your uncore and ram settings? Cause i think you can increase that score a bit higher by change uncore to around 3600 MHz (on your asus board its called ULCK) and maybe set memory as high as possible. I have my I7 980X oc to 4.4 GHz uncore set to 3700 MHz and memory at 1400 MHz. That gives me a CB R15 score of 1027. 100 MHz less than you on cores and a 4.75 GHz, uncore at 3990 MHz and memory still at 1400 MHz i score 1103.
  4. Use benchmark has never been a precision tool for cpu or other hardware. For cpu comparison i prefer a more dedicated benchmark like cinebench r15/20.
  5. Ryzen 3 gen work a bit different. It has support for higher clock memory and sweetspot its 3600 mhz with as low timings as possible.
  6. No i dont need rgb, in fact i would prefer npt to have rgb. But higher clock memory that 3600 mhz is not worfh it. Remember ryzen 3000 infinity fabrik reduse clock speed on it to the half when running memory above 3733 mhz. By that you lose data transfer speed even trow you run faster memory clock. Thats why i settle with 3600 mhz specifik. I cut get faster clock memory, but that will only be because to run it at 3600 mhz still but then push timings even lower.
  7. As a overclock enthusiast i se differently on it, coming from a platform that cut take cpu's over 1 ghz above stock clock. Ryzen 3000 oc capability is very dissapointing to said it at least. I am not planning on using stock cooler as they tend to suck and be noisy. I'm planing on to get a noctua nh-d15 for the cpu. Al ready have a nh-d14 on my current cpu and i have been fairly pleased with it.
  8. Oh dont worry, i am planning to manuel a just timings as xmp profiles tend to suck. But buy memory with al ready low timing rate, i hope that will a low to cramp timings even lower. Like 3600 mhz 14-14-14-35.
  9. Original i dit not plan to offer so much on memory. But to my dissapoint ryzen 3000 turned out to be a bad overclocker and i else planed a custom waterloop to cramp every thing out of it. But as it dont overclock well. I desided to just stick with a good air cooler and offer more money on memory in sted as that seems to be a better way to cramp more performance out of ryzen.
  10. I am in the middle of finding the best possible memomy kit for my upcoming ryzen 3000 build. It seems ryzen 3000 memory sweetspot is 3600 mhz with as low timings as possible. So far i have found this G.skill Trident Z Neo kit and this is the 3600 mhz kit with the lowest timings i can find so far. But before i orders these memory, i wanted to ask if other have or know of 3600 mhz kit with lower timings than the kit i found. this is the kit i am talking about. As said clock is 3600 mhz and rated timings is CL14-15-15-35 1.40V. https://www.gskill.com/specification/165/326/1562839044/F4-3600C14D-16GTZN-Specification
  11. Amd now. Intel is releasing yet again cpu's on 14 nm and according to intel leaks comet lake aint comming before some time 2020. I'm in the same boat, i need my old x58 repliced and i will not wait a dam year more. I am just waiting for ryzen 9 3950X to come out.
  12. As i have had asus for 10 years now with my X58 system and it has just worked flawless. I have once again set my eyes on asus and that will be asus rog crosshair viii hero with a RYZEN 9 3950X cpu when it comes out.
  13. Well later this year. I will temperary not be running X58. The reason is because if AMD Ryzen 9 3950X lives up to its promises, will replace X58 with that until i can afford a new case and all the other things i need for a complete new pc. Until then i will be running Ryzen in my old build. Just a heads up.
  14. The first cpu i ever bay from my own money brand new whas a Core i7 920 and a asus rampage 2 extreme mobo. I had a pc with an amd atlhon xp 1500+ cpu before that, but that whas a share pc between my sister and me and my parrent buy it for us bofh.
  15. For those that want to stick with X58 a while longer, but only have a I7/Xeon quad-core. Yes i will highly reccommend to get a cheap 6 core xeon. There really is a noticable difference when they first are overclock. I took the upgrade path from a I7 920 running 4.4 GHz at its end time i had it to an I7 980X. It whas totally worfh it. But i do also agreed with other people here. X58 is past its best days. For gamming its still desent, but games are beginning to beat up poor old X58. Metro Exodus and Far Cry New Dawn made me deisde that it whas time to move on from X58 some time next year (i cant really afford a new pc right now). Some compared I7 and Xeon quad vs. 6 core Xeons. I can share what my system score with an I7 920 and my current I7 980X. 6 core xeon will score the same as my I7 6 core at the same settings. All throw some of the benchmark does benefit from higher clock memory as well as high uncore clock. I7 920 oc to around 4.3 to 4.4 GHz I7 980X a mix of stock CPU, 4.4 GHz and my bench settings means oc to around 4.7 GHz two game benchmark. Far Cry 5 and the latest Tom Raider game.
  16. Then try metro exodus, far cry new dawn or BF V with directX 12 enable. Then you will see your pc crying for mercy.
  17. Spot on what i would have said my self. X58 has been fun, stable, amazing value even throw it whas not cheap back then but thinking for how long it has lasted, i will say it has been every penny wofh it. But X58 cant run from time and teknologi advancing.
  18. Yeah i agreed with bimmerman. X58 is old and outdated. 2019 is the last year for me on X58, as it can no longer provide the gaming exsperince i want and games only become more and more demanding. Metro Exodus and Far Car New Dawn dit that i made the desision to upgrade now. its a fun platform to play with and if you just want some old stuff to mess with. But as told IPC is low and it cant keep up with games any more for what i want. I as well is planning on getting a Ryzen 3000 based PC next year.
  19. Yeah i would mean, if he has played with msconfig, he shut have known. My guess is that he has been in bios playing with overclock or to make other change and some how at that point, set bios to disable one core and by that also 2 threads.
  20. I think you some how have manage to deaktivate one of the 4 cpu cores. So that you now run 3 cores/6 threads. Go in to bios and see if all the cores are set to active and if not. change it so that all cores are active. Else upload a screenshot with either CPU-z open er taskmanager where it shows the CPU load and clocks.
  21. I will not reccoment that i5. You will see even throw that it has 6 cores, some games will make it peak at 100 % load. I have seen videos with i7 9700k that games can get that cpu to peak at 100 % load, because it only has 8 cores but also only 8 thread. Games these days will benefif from more than 8 threads cpu's. That is why ryzen 5 3600 is a good choise as it has 6 cores and 12 threads thanks to smt. Also ryzen 3000 shut have a ipc that match intels 9000 series cpu's. I totally wote for ryzen 5 3600.
  22. No matter what, i will reccomend 6 cores and 12 threads. Some games benefit from more than 4 core/8 threads these days and only more are coming. I will say, wait for ryzen 3000. I think ryzen 5 3600 will be a good one to get. Reviews will come in start of july and then just get a cheap mobo with x470 chipsæt for it. On a tight bugetthat would be my chiose also because all ryzen can be overclock any way.
  23. Well if you cant afford a new build. Then i will say, Go for it. I had a I7 920 oc to 4.4 GHz at the end time i had it and replaced it with a I7 980X (I7 6 core is the same as the 6 core xeon just with some features dissable that the xeons has). You will get a boost you can feel. Games will get a FPS boost, just the fact that games these day now can use 6 cores and also get better FPS still with HT on. I cut feel it and i have no regrets replacing my I7 920 for a i7 980X. Just be sure when you overclock X58. higher uncore clock also gives you better performance as well as higher clock ram. To others: Xeon on X58 can indeed be overclock. You just overclock them by BLCK just as with the locked i7 models as I7 920. 6 core xeons typically can overclock to between 4.2 to 4.6 GHz with good cooling. heck if you get one of the two W models, that will be Xeon W3680 or W3690, you even get unlocket multiplier as these two are just rebranded I7 980X/990X. Getting a EVGA SR-2 motherboard will allow you to even overclock two X models xeons at the same time. Xeon overclock. X5670 and a X5675. here is my own old system with first a I7 920 and later my current I7 980X My system in userbenchmark. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/10037039 I even have a m.2 NVMe SSD in my system as a boot drive. That will be Samsung 950 PRO as this SSD has a legacy mode or OPT-rom build in. This means this SSD can work on systems with legacy bios as X58 has. if you still want to know more about X58. look in this thread dedicate to X58: X58 has been an amazing platform to screw around with. Else i have not been on it for 10 dam years now. All throw im planning on to get a AMD Ryzen 9 3950X setup because i need a CPU that can video convert and work as a light workstation. But i will keep my X58 for nostagic and also as a second/backup pc. I have had to much fun and good memory´s with X58 that i can never sell it. I just know i will regret it short after any way.
  24. Never used a SSD. You dont know what you have missed then. Do your self a favor and get a ssd with the new system. I been on ssd for games and os for like since 2011. And i am never going back to a hdd for this.
