  1. Yeah use HWINFO64. Hardware monitor is not all ways good for precision on temp. My own 5950X even when oc, I have never seen it go beyond 5.25 ghz on the best cores. 6.4 ghz would recure dangerous high voltage and Collings would need to be ln2 or at least dry ice to reach clock beyond 6 ghz.
  2. Deffently wait for your wife to get the xc3. You are better of with 12 gb vram than 10 gb vram. I have the FTW 3 card and 10 gb vram is not to much, specially for 4k. So my sound advice is go for the 12 gb version. It will last you longer. It's not fun to run out of vram, it's a laggy mess to do so. Ftz 3 need better cooling do to higher factory oc with 380 watt and power target can be raised to 400 watt. But you know what, 3080 12 gb is just as fast or faster. Do to more vram broadband and a few extra Cuda cores. So 3080 12 gb all the way.
  3. Yeah can confirm. 5.05 ghz on 5950X stock is normal. With pbo on clock raised to 200 mhz+ it can go to 5.15 ghz. My 5950X can at least.
  4. I can see thrasher_565 found them for me. But yeah, it´s the strips he link to i have. The PCIe thing as you call it, is just a simple sata power controller with on/off switches. That´s so i can turn those sata HDD/SSD of i dont use or need. That saves power, wear and tear on the drives and i dit because the PSU send power out to all sata cables no matter what system is on. You can see the controllers on/of switches here from behind: Intake from top. Nono. Top shut all ways be exhaust as hot air goes to top. The side exhaust fans are only on when the mini-atx system is on. When the atx system or bofh er on, they are turned off so they don´t ruin airflow from front intake fans. All controlled by the fan controllers.

But I just checked the store in my country where I got them and they have plenty in store. So it shut not be because of shortage.   6. Yeah I desided to go different and avoid water cooling and sticking to air. To see if it was even possible to do so. With the right components, is was possible. I'm not sure what you mean by led strip. But if you mean the RGB strip from top to bottom of the atx system, it's Phanteks own RGB strip. Do you mean the less bright strip going between the atx and the mini-atx system. It's a integrated strip that comes with the phanteks case pre-installed. The little system is used for a more power efficient system and else works as a backup solution, retro gamer, gamer for when friends comes by, I use it as well when the atx working hard and I can't use that among other things.
  7. I just fininshed my new build that has been some time under way. It´s two systems in 1 case powered by one PSU as well. Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING and ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero X570 Ram: G.SKILL TRIDENT Z ROYAL GOLD/SILVER 32 GB (2 x 16 GB and 4 x 8 GB) 3600 MHz CL14-15-15-35 1.45 volt GPU: ASUS GTX 1650 Low Profile cooler and EVGA RTX 3080 FTW 3 ULTRA GAMING Storage: 2 x Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB and a 2 TB + CRUCIAL MX300 2 TB SATA SSD + WD RED 4 TB and a WD GOLD 14 TB HDD PSU: Phanteks Revolt X 1200W Case: Phanteks Enthoo 719 black monitors: Asus 27" TUF VG27AQL1A and a Dell 24" (last one is tempoary. But microchip shortage, corona and overpriced hardware made it a much more difficult process than i would like it to be. So here are a few fotos of it. Sorry they are not so good all of them.   8. Hmm. With power limits at max, I else all ready gets good single Core score in Cinebench r23 compared with others. Stock i get 1600, with pbo with out any tuning i get 1631 and pbo with tuning I get 1654. The 1654 Seems to be in the good end of what I can see. Lowering power limits will also force cores to lower the clock speed at high load and reduce performance. And it's mostly the multi core performance i need for my use. Not so much single core for games.
  9. I have all ready maxed the single core clock out what is stable. That max out at 5.15 ghz for the best cores. Above that gives deminising results. With pbo ppt limits me to 395 watts, TDC to 255 amps and edc to 200 amps. Motherboard dosent allow me to go beyond that with pbo. Only way to bypass this, is to do a Manuel all core overclock or manually ox each individual core and that's a time consuming process to do and I don't have time to oc each core individually. It's all really in a large case with good airflow. Is a Phanteks enthoo 719 case filled with Lian Li uni SL120 fans. So airflow is plenty. But it seems both of you agree that 80C is the limit and since I top out at 76C with pbo. I think I am better of just leave pbo on and tune curve optimization in stead.
  10. Well I agree with 80C as max, that's pretty much also what I feel is where I shut end the oc adventure. But your comment on overclocking theory is to lower temp. That's a new one. Normally I think overclocking as getting the maximum performance out of a cpu with in reasonable voltage and heat depending on what your cooling can handle. But it might be because I come from an accient platform, intels X58/lga 1366 with a i7 980x cpu. So overclocking might have changed since then. Back then, is was all about to have sufficient cooling and then give the cpu The max voltage that is considered safe and your cooling cut handle. Then find the maximum stable coreclock. But it seems i shut just let pbo be on and settle for that. Now spend time to fine tune curve optimization and forget a Manuel all core oc.
  11. We are not talking for just gaming. This cpu is a total waste of money for purely gaming. This cpu and oc is just as much to get the raw compute power i need. This cpu is meant to be used for blender, video converting and like wise cpu heavy applications.
  12. I have a Ryzen 9 5950X that I have had for two months now and playing around with PBO and the max power limits my motherboard allows for. It sits in a Asus Dark Hero X570 board and is colled by a Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black and stock fans replaced by two Noctua industrial ippc 3000 RPM fans. All temperature below is read in ryzen master software. At stock in Cinebench R23 Stress test it tops at 60C in the single core test and multi core test it tops at 53C after around 10 minutes of testing. In the same test but with pbo on. Single core again sits at the 60C, while multi core now goes to 76C as its highest peak temp. I made a all core manuel oc as well to 4.65 ghz on all cores at 1.375 volts and the cpu hits 85C in Cinebench R23. But that seems to me, that is to take it a bit to far. Specially for the longer life span of the cpu. However max temp is 90C before thermal throttle set in. So now the question is, would it be safe to oc the cpu further and run it hotter than 76C at peak for longer periods of time, over the next 6 years I expect this cpu to last me. Or shut i dial max power limits back a bit so it runs a bit cooler. What I am thinking of to do, is to make a new all core manual oc with lower clock and voltages. In short I guess I try to ask what is the max temperature I shut run it at for longer periods of time and what voltage is considered maximum safe for Zen 3?
  13. For point of view. I chose it for reliability, looks, what I need and features. I have my PC's for a long time, so reliability is a apselute must. I came directly from an old Intel X58 system and been on that platform for nearly 12 years, on a Asus motherboard. It still worked perfectly, time just catches up. So getting hardware that last a long time, is important. Dark hero had one feature I wanted in particular. No stupid fail hazardous chipset fan. But also probably the best overclocking feature I ha e seen for a amd motherboard Called dynamic oc switch. Also it's looks was just on point and the rear i/o as well. Also I want good quality, as the Last thing we need in a polluted word. Is more cheap E-waste that holf light 3 years and it's ready to be thrown out cause of cheap garbage komponent.
  14. Why are people now discussing dark hero. Totally off topic. Well I got my dark hero for several reasons. Overclocking with the asus dynamic oc switch, better vrm, the back i/o, no annoying stupid chipset fan that can fail over time, the looks fits perfectly in to my own builds dark/black theme.
  15. Also dark hero here. But I aircool my 5950X with a Noctua NH-D15 Chromax black with two noctua ippc industrial fans 3000 RPM. Stock single core up to 72C and max all core 55C Manuel all core oc to 4.65 ghz at 1.375 volts it peak at 85C and that's apselutely the limit for me. When I have more time, I will try to dial in a oc at 1.3 volt for every day use.
  16. So i got a new system. Actually 2 systems in one case. CPU´s are 5600X and 5950X. 5600X is limited by the cooler i use, a low profile noctua cooler. With a better cooler, it can deffently get higher scores. Stock with PBO and my own powert limits as said. Cooler is limiting it and i have to limit power, else it would go to throttle temp. 5950X cooled by a Noctua NH-D15. So aircooled as well. R20 with PBO and manuelt core OC combined. R23 stock R23 with PBO and manuel core oc combined.

Spec is: Cpu: amd zen 3 5600X and 5950X Cpu cooling: noctua nh-d15 chromax.black and noctua nh-l9x65 se-am4 Motherboard: Asus Rog strix b550-i gaming mini-itx and Asus Crosshair viii dark hero X570. Ram: G.skill Trident z Royal silver and gold. 3600 mhz CL14-15-15-35 32 GB. 2 x 16 gb and 4 x 8 GB. GPU: ASUS GTX 1650 LP and Palit gtx 1660 super. But goal is to get asus rtx 3080 ti tuf or strix eventually. Storage: 2 x Samsung 980 PRO 1 TB and one 2 TB, My old Crucial mx300 2tb sata SSD, WD red 4 tb and wd gold 14tb hdd. Psu: Phanteks Revolt x 1200 watt Case: phanteks enthoo 719/Luxe 2 black with Lian Li UNI fan SL120 black fans. Os: windows 10 pro but considering 11, when. It comes out officially. Keyboard and mouse: Logitech G910 ORION SPECTRUM and Logitech G903 Lightspeed. Monitor: Asus 27" TUF VG27AQL1A 144 Hz oc til 170 Hz Speaker: Logitech Z906 Additional: Aquacomputer aquaero 6 xt fancontrollers, vertical gpu mount, RGB stripe and its not on the image, but I am in the process of changing nvme ssd cooling from the motherboard stock cooling to some active cooled headsinks.   18. I think more the problem lays in your cpu, more specific in the infinity fabric. Not many cpu can run infinity fabric over 1800 mhz that means 3600 mhz memory. Let alone 3800 mhz on memory and to run 1:1 ratio on IF means infinity fabric has to run 1900 mhz and only a few CPU's can run infinity fabric on 1900 mhz fully stable. Since 3600 mhz work. I suggest you stick to 3600 mhz and try to get timings as low as possible like 3600 mhz 14-14-14-32 if possible. This is just an example. Findeling more with infinity fabric at 3800 mhz will properly just give you more trouble than a working pc out of it. I know it can be annoying to. Pay and not get it, but since the cpu also has it limit. There is not much to do about it. Save those 3800 mhz for if you some day upgrade to a zen 3 cpu as I think those cpu can better handle faster memory.
  19. Yeah noctua coolers are top notch, it's just those ugly poop color fans, so I replaced those fans with there black IPPC series fans. Now it's bofh look good and cools well. Nvme SSD on x58 is a joy to use. No crappy Marvell sata 3 controller or slow sata 2 to be limited by. About max speed, you won't see speed much above 1700 mb/s as you are limited by pcie gen 2. 1400 mb/s tells me that you SSD has allot of stuff on it, 950 PRO slows down as they are filled up with files. Mine slows from 1700 to 1400 when nearly full. But 800 mb/s in transfer seems a bit slow as 512 gb is rated for 1500 mb/s for write speed. Dont waste money on 48 gb memory.
  20. Dont be afraid of punishing your I7 980X, they can take a pretty good beating. Infact X58 boards and CPU a pretty hard to kill as long you stay away from high voltage and temps. I have a I7 980X as well and i have had it oc to 4.4 GHz at 1.43 volts the past three years and even for benchmark up to 4.75 Ghz at 1.55 volts a cold winter day off cause and despeite it is still going strong. All throw before you begin to OC your chip, replace that Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo with a better cooler. Evo 212 is not gear to handle the heat out put a I7 980X can put out at 4.4 GHz. I am using a Noctua NH-D14 to keep my max core temp at 75-77 degress Celsious under full load. Here is my bios settings for 4.4 GHz, uncore set to 3600 MHz. These voltage and setting are just a guide as your cpu might need higher voltage or has better silicone than my own so it can run with lower voltage as you do want if possible. lower voltage decrease heat out put, stress on the CPU´s transistors and will also mean a lower watt usage with will benefit your power bill. Note: the settings i am posting here is using the unlocked multiplier, you can overclock your I7 980X by BLCK as well if you prefer that, but that will need you to ajust more voltage than those i have a justed in bios now. https://imgur.com/a/bBjw4wA I see you are also a Samsung PRO 950 user on X58 as i am. excellent, welcome to the club.   21. Based on tdp ratings. Your cooler is insufficient for cooling a threadripper cpu. Cooler is rated for 140 watt tdp while 3960X is rated for 280 watt tdp stock. So I'm pretty sure your cpu is getting way too hot and shuts down. Before doing much else, I would totally get a better cooling maybe a god 360 mm aio. Threadripper need a good cooling when under full load. You cut also try to under clock cpu to lower voltage and core clock and see if it still shutdown. If not, then I will say you have a thermal issue and needs a better cooler.
  22. Understandeble. I have my hardware for a long time, so when i upgrade i go all out. Running a X58 system with a I7 980X right now to give an idea of how long i have my systems. I whas very lucky indeed. I only godt it because i ordered it early on lauch day and still i dit not get one of the first cpu´s they had home. But i whas aparently fast enoufh to get one of those they got ekstra home of last week. Cant wait for the rest of the hardware to arrive no, so i can go nuts on benchmarking the crap out of that Ryzen 9 3950X.

No the store I ordered one from, called me that they had gotten a few extra cpu home and asked if I whas still interested in one. Never had I dropped what I had in my hands this fast before and run out to my car and drive to the store. And that is how I ended up with a Ryzen 9 3950X before Christmas.
