  1. I would look at Gumtree and Preloved not always much on there and some is way overpriced but it varies with location. I would personally just go to eBay much larger selection and mostly good deals.
  2. I have been runing through all my machines updating and I am getting something different when running the verification in powershell provided by Microsoft on my 5960x everything is looking ok all enabled and true but when runing the same commands on my Lenovo X230 with Ivy Bridge I end up with PCID set to false as shown bellow. I did see a twitter stream where there was talk that pre haswell CPU's don't have PCID https://twitter.com/aionescu/status/948609809540046849 the its in the first few replies then someone else says that they do have it. Has any body else with an ivy bridge CPU had the same issue. Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is present: True Windows OS support for kernel VA shadow is enabled: True Windows OS support for PCID optimization is enabled: False
  3. It's down to how the cpu shares its resources see the link https://community.amd.com/thread/214836
  4. What are you classing as heavy loads, maybe the software you are using isn't optimised for multicore that well. Have you tried running cinebench that can usually max all cores. Your CPU is also a straight quad core there are no logical cores or hyper threading as stated here https://community.amd.com/thread/214836
  5. it is possible to install ubuntu or any other linux distro on a separate drive so I would say thats the quickest option without having to mess with windows you will just have to point you bios to linux as the boot drive and it's bootloader GRUB should be able to see windows. This can cause issues with windows update failing so if that happens just change back to windows only boot run the update then change back to linux drive. I have been running this type of setup for years and it works well. You don't need to unplug the windows drive to install as long as you select the right drive in the ubuntu install this will mean GRUB is configured right and you don't have to go into linux to update it and make it find linux.
  6. Have you thought of checking out charity shops my local one had a sandybridge i7 with 8GB of ram for around £70, you can get a 280x / 290x for £100 - £150 on evil bay (eBay) leaving something left over for an SSD or for some games.
  7. I think I will see what I can do with an OC
  8. I have a Nvidia Titan Xp, it's water cooled and GPU boost clocks it around 2000mhz and because it's watercooled it just sits there and never dips is there any reason to overclock instead would I gain any performance or is it not worth the bother.
  9. I quite like 123D for general modelling but I mostly use scad lets you do some quite interesting things using code good for making gears and such.
  10. 4 RX 460's you would be better of just getting one more powerful card.
  11. I'd second scan they have plenty of different models, I shop there exclusively being as it is only a few miles from me and they let you pick up.
  12. In my local area WD gets bad press and thats why I avoid them. Most people talk about reliability issues with them, issue is my local computer store is now mostly selling WD drives and other manufactures have all but disappeared from there store. I am just wondering what peoples experiences are with these drives in terms of reliability.
