  1. I'm looking at several right now on eBay because I'm just trying to find the cheapest parts that are instantly compatible with my setup in order to narrow down the culprit of a no-POST. I am leaning pretty strongly towards the mobo having died, but I'm actually not positive. I may not even end up purchasing a CPU right now, but I want to maximize the value with this purchase - e.g., I may get this B350 with a bent pin, fix it, and that way afford an accompanying CPU to cover all my troubleshooting bases and at least yield a booting PC in the end almost guaranteed, all at the same cost of just a tested-working motherboard. My priorities are very heavy on the *just work* side of things, lol. Anyway, now I know to check the manufacturer's site for more reliable compatibility info - thank you! I'll see where I can go from here.
  2. They sure do. I didn't stop to check if MSI had a link like that. So is it safe to say if the socket is AM4 then it fits? I'm also looking to avoid needing a BIOS update, but I think I know how to determine that one nevermind I could only get a definitive answer from that support table - but that clears up a lot. Thanks for the reply.
  3. I'm working on troubleshooting using cheapo minimal parts and I'm double-checking compatibility of boards & CPUs from eBay, and I'm watching auctions that expire within the day. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gNgX8r Combining an MSI B350 Tomahawk with an AMD Athlon 3000G or any other Athlon processor that uses the AM4 socket yields a corresponding compatibility warning as quoted below. Is this erroneous as I suspect? As far as I can tell they are perfectly compatible. Or is there something I'm missing? Any info is appreciated. "MSI B350 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard and AMD Athlon 3000G (14nm) 3.5 GHz Dual-Core Processor are not compatible" Thanks!!
  4. Sorry for long post, but I am desperate for a solution to an issue I know from experience to be very time-consuming. I replaced all but the case and GPU in my PC and made fresh Windows 10 installation on new SSD. The aforementioned crashes ONLY happen in Dota 2 (granted the only other game I've played on here is WoW Classic), and make the game unplayable, because it is an online competitive action-RTS game (also, I hate to admit, a huge part of my life), for those who aren't familiar. And time lost is game-losing. Anyway, I encountered my first problems when I installed the latest AMD driver and software. Halfway through the cursor disappeared, the screen froze, and the GPU fan went to max RPM, followed by black screen. Upon rebooting, all seemed well as Windows update appeared to fill in the blanks in drivers (I had not yet connected to my internet when I attempted to install video drivers), and I got the AMD software by running setup from the C:\AMD directory. The Dota 2 client recommended that I set it to use DX11, so that is what I still have it on. I encountered problems in my first game with a bit of strange stuttering, and then the first blue screen. In subsequent Dota matches I have had 1-4 game crashes per game where the process quits with no warning. As far as the Windows blue screens, I have had 3 of them so far (they occur while Dota 2 is running), and they are always a different stop code (I wish I had recorded them), but a couple remind me of video driver issues I've had before on other systems. I am quite hesitant to uninstall/reinstall the driver as doing so in past AMD driver issues on a certain other system has always led to me having to reinstall Windows with still at best a partial fix on the original issue (at worst the card becomes entirely unusable), so I would like to receive input from others before I try anything. Here is driver and software info from the application: Radeon Settings Version - 2019.0903.1407.25433 View Release Notes - https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-19-9-1 Driver Packaging Version - 19.30.01.50-190903a-346453E-RadeonSoftwareAdrenalin2019 Provider - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. 2D Driver Version - 8.1.1.1634 Direct3D® Version - 9.14.10.01410 OpenGL® Version - 26.20.11000.13571 AMD Audio Driver Version - 10.0.1.6 Vulkan™ Driver Version - 2.0.106 Vulkan™ API Version - 1.1.119 And here is my system: MSI B450 Tomahawk mobo Ryzen 2600X Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3466Mhz 16-18-18-36(?) AMD RX 470 4GB A good NVMe M.2 SSD Also please note I have the XMP memory profile on as well as "game boost" from BIOS (CPU multiplier up such that freq is 4.05Ghz). And temps have been fine, no more than 70C on anything under load. My PC otherwise runs flawlessly. Any suggestions that could help me at all are greatly appreciated! Thanks so so much for your time.
  5. I put the battery to my tongue; it has a voltage. Then I put one in from a different machine (which works fine), and I STILL got the no post and beep code. This is very troubling to me because it means there is an issue that is not the battery itself, and I don't have any knowledge to find out what the deal is. Any help is appreciated.
  6. That would mean it died literally in the process of being removed and replaced yesterday. That's pretty damn coincidental, but I get what you're saying. Next step could be to buy a new one (or try one from a different PC?). And yeah 7520, fixed.
  7. On a Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop - has had an issue booting that as far as I can tell is not hardware, at least not at root; there is no indication it would be. I thought to clear the CMOS just in case it somehow got it out of this boot loop it's in, just as a simple quick thing to check off for troubleshooting. However, after removing and replacing the CMOS battery (which involves disassembling the laptop quite a lot) it will no longer post and gives 5 beeps, which on Dell mobos is apparently for CMOS battery issue. I have since removed and replaced it a few more times, visually inspected the battery and slot, and I can't figure out what's going on here. Any ideas? Thank you very much in advance.
  8. This kit at first glance is fantastic for the price (as low as $88), besides that there's a chance one may have to exchange it for another due to errors in memtest, judging by the reviews. I want to use it with a Ryzen 5 2600X and overclock the frequency on the RAM if it can handle at least some. Does anyone have experience with this specific kit? Even if not, how do the prospects seem considering the low price? I'll definitely swing more for a better kit if it will likely be lacking. Any help greatly appreciated; many thanks in advance.
  9. Why would mobo manufacturers bother to list "supported" speeds and not even include all of the normal ones if that is the case? I believe what you are telling me, but it doesn't really make sense.
  10. Sorry I misread the specs; edited. I was not looking for specifically 3200Mhz or any in particular yet, I just want to know about ones that aren't listed and aren't higher than 3466. Thanks.
  11. Example: MSI B450 Tomahawk lists up to 3466Mhz, but excludes numbers like 3400, 3333, and more. I'm not talking about overclocking, I just want to know if will *certainly* be able to run say a 3400Mhz kit at 3400Mhz even though it's not on the list. My thinking is that they list the ones they test extensively, but I am not sure to what extent there is confidence in ones not listed even if they are below the "maximum" or highest listed. Also, is there anything else to worry about? Like, might I be restricted in how much I can adjust the timings because it's not "supported"? - stuff along those lines. Thanks a bunch in advance.
  12. I am thinking of upgrading my low end Intel build to a Ryzen 5 2600X on B450. I don't really want to buy a new cooler though, so I'd like to know if my CM Hyper 212 EVO which I purchased in 2016 needs a new adapter of some kind to work on an AM4 socket. Thanks.
  13. Ok so I can't find any setting in my highly restricted HP BIOS interface about Legacy/UEFI modes and I can't even tell if my Windows 7 installation is being booted by UEFI or Legacy boot mode since the BIOS mode entry doesn't exist in System Information! WTF
  14. This is very interesting to me - I'd never heard of a Video BIOS.... What I'm getting is the video card has its own firmware that in this case can't be initialized by the UEFI firmware and so it needs to run in legacy mode using the Compatibility Support Module - which is built into a UEFI system. Assuming that's correct, how should I go about enabling this in my BIOS? It sounds very familiar like I might've seen it looking through BIOS settings, but I'm not sure I'm thinking of the right thing.. Thanks a lot for anything further you can provide.
  15. So if this wasn't a prebuilt system but with a similar motherboard it would almost certainly work? Meaning the issue here is with HP's firmware or something?
  16. Hello, I am attempting to test a PowerColor RX 470 4GB in an HP pavilion p6780t desktop from 2011. I have the power issue taken care of, and there is a free PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot - all good there. However, it doesn't produce a POST. The motherboard is a PEGATRON Cleveland GL-8, that's H67 LGA1155 with an i5-2400 CPU installed; also, Speccy mentions 2AB6 for this mobo. The BIOS is v 7.15 which is from Dec 2011 and there is no later version provided by HP. Does anyone around here have knowledge involving modern GPU's with this kind of old system? I was told I might need an "updated UEFI BIOS" to get this to POST; can anyone provide evidence confirming or denying this? And anything else that may be useful is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
  17. Ah, of course. Well as far as I can gather there's no way to get such an updated BIOS on this board. Do you have any suggestions? Is there such a thing as custom firmware I can set up and put on there? (Long shot ik...) Thx.
  18. This is a p6780t, that's not 2000 series, right? Lol I can try that anyway though, I downloaded a file from the HP website though it's listed that it's from Dec 2011, I don't know if that is going to be the proper update, do you? Thanks EDIT: Just saw some Amazon reviewer for a 750Ti saying his p6780t couldn't run the card due to lack of a recent enough BIOS update; this gives me doubts with the RX 470 being even newer than a 750Ti. That being said, it's a comparison between AMD and Nvidia GPU's, could be there's no reason to draw any conclusions about the 470 from that.
  19. I am in the middle of troubleshooting a PC I built that used to be working, then after using it to troubleshoot another rig it has stopped POSTing upon rebuilding. I wanted to test the graphics card (PowerColor RX 470 4GB) in a different system, and the only one I have access to is this old HP Pavilion tower with a PEGATRON 2AB6 motherboard containing an i5-2400, and a PSU that definitely won't power the GPU. I used the PSU (I know it's functional) that goes with my custom built rig to power the HP instead of the one it came with, stuck my 470 in the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot on the PEGATRON mobo and the system did not POST, same as my build has been doing. I know the display and display cable work. Should the graphics card definitely be compatible here - meaning it's (at least one of) the culprits preventing my own system from POSTing? Or is there a chance it's not a problem and the reason the HP doesn't POST is simple incompatibility? As far as I am aware this shows that the card is dead, but I am looking for confirmation from potentially much more experienced and knowledgeable people here on this forum. If you know of any reason for the RX 470 not to work in the HP given sufficient power, please let me know! Thanks very much in advance. EDIT: Apparently should specify the HP is HP Pavilion p6780t CTO Desktop PC
  20. Corsair STRAFE RGB keyboard. Been wanting one for a long time but it's frickin expensive EDIT: Oh yeah and a monitor. 144Hz ultrawide IPS panel.. the works
