TheLazyGrizzly reacted to LinusTech in UltraWide Festival 2015
Thanks to everyone who participated. It was really really hard for me to pick out the winners and honestly if I had 30 monitors to give out myself I could have easily found 30 deserving people

I want to clarify a couple of points

    1. I *DID* say the submission requirements may vary for the other YouTubers and I didn't judge anything longer than 30 seconds.

    2. A huge thing for me was presenting your rig in an entertaining and creative way, so all of our top 25 entries have been watched by at least 2 members of our staff and by me at least 5x to ensure that it didn't just stand out to me the first time, but also after repeat viewing.

One of the reasons I don't run these contests more often is that there can only be so many winners and I hate seeing all of that work go into something in hopes of winning only to have it not happen, but if it helps at all I genuinely enjoyed watching all the entries and I plan to go through and re-watch a good number of them now that the stress of judging them is over.

I remember you once told me, Linus, that it would probably be many years before your kids would have PCs of their own.

I'm starting to get the idea that you've changed your mind - not that this will be his PC, but that he's really gonna get into it at an early age.

Sooner or later Linus's son will be a part of this forum and be into tech just as much as most of the people on here. ( And from the looks of it have some of the best specs too?)

Acer are working on fixing the X34 before release Alternate Returned all their stock back to acer we might finally have a Ultrawide with 100hz after all very little compromises here 44hz less is worth it imo I'm holding off hoping they fix it before jumping on the 144hz band wagon again I had to send two 16:9 back already so might as well wait for what I really want lol

    Try 10 years.

Intel CPUs, that is. Every chip has a voltage way higher than the default voltage they can stay at without any noteworthy acceleration in degradation. For example, for Ivy Bridge, it was 1.32v - stay below that and it'll last roughly as long as a non-OC chip. For reference, 1.28v on my 3570K got me to 4.8Ghz, which is 1.4Ghz above base clock... This enabled only about 10 FPS extra when I had my GTX 760, but got me 25 FPS extra compared to stock with my new R9 290x.

AMD tends to set their default voltage less conservatively than Intel and there's less room before you hit this threshold. But when it comes to AMD, your motherboard will die before your CPU does in 10/10 cases anyway, unless you got a Sabertooth.

Get a 39" Korean Wasabi Mango or Crossover and don't look back. The pixel density is perfect as you can't make out individual pixels but it's big enough to not require text scaling. Big monitors are the way to go for 4k in my opinion.

    Wow look at these:
    - 3x NVIDIA GeForce TITAN X GPU in 3-way SLI configuration are needed for surround vision.
    - NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology only works with NVIDIA’s graphic cards. Other GPUs are NOT able to support this technology.
    - NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ Technology automatically scales up your contents displayed to 3440 x 1440. The DisplayPort supports 3440 x 1440 up to 100Hz. The HDMI only supports 3440 x 1440 @ 30Hz.
    - The ROG SWIFT PG348Q can support G-SYNC Surround (3x SWIFT PG348Q) up to 10320 x 1440 (*Driver version 355.60 already released for all G-SYNC-supported graphics cards. If you are using GTX 9 series graphics cards, you can download 355.60 or latest version from NVIDIA website.)

I don't recall the Acer going into detail of what it monitor can and cannot do.  Asus also comes right out and says it's monitor will do 100Hz, you just need a 700, 900 ot titan card with the latest drivers.  What is even better, is these drivers  are already out!  So they have made a monitor, that isn't availble for a few months, using drivers out today.

    Nice move Asus.

I'm not that sure but i might be wrong, the GTX 960 is a relatively weak card. Especially for the money you've got to pay for it. I wouldn't worry about DX12 since Nvidia seems to fall behind AMD in it. Noone knows for sure though! We have to wait and watch carefully
Anyway, you definitely should not buy a GTX 960 no matter what. That is my honest opinion. AMD offers too many better options within that price range.

For 4k gaming, 980ti / Fury X both perform the same and cost about the same

For 1440p gaming on higher end 980 is marginally faster than the 390X, and costs marginally more.
For 1080p gaming on higher end 980 is marginally faster than the 390X, and costs marginally more.

For 1440p gaming on Mid-High end 970 costs the same as the 390, but the 390 is significantly faster than the 970, and has more than double the usable vram.
For 1080p gaming on Mid-High end 970 costs the same as the 390, but the 390 is marginally faster, and has more than double the usable vram.

    Exceptions --
1440p/1080p gaming the R9 Fury is faster than the 980 in some situations, but costs around the same, perhaps slightly more.
The 780ti if you can find one, can be bought for less than a 980, and performs better than a 970 and 390, but will most likely cost more.

In recent news a youtuber by the name of  PangaeaPanga has had his youtube channel completely butchered by Nintendo very recently. By butchered nearly 80 percent of his youtube channel has be taken down.

Due to the fact he played super mario games with tool assisted hacks or hacked ROMS  of Super Mario.

He received this Email from Nintendo when his channel was getting multiple copyright strikes

" We wish to inform you that the videos in question infringe Nintendo's copyrights. As the owner of the copyright in the games: Mario Kart 8 , Super Mario World , and Pokémon , Nintendo has the exclusive right to perform the games publicly or to make derivative works based on the games. By making a derivative work using Nintendo's IP, and then displaying Nintendo's IP on your YouTube channel, you have violated Nintendo's exclusive rights.

Nintendo understands that its fans are the reason for its success, and we are always happy to see people share their passion for Nintendo's games. At the same time, Nintendo's intellectual property constitutes its most valuable assets, and the unauthorized use of these assets jeopardizes Nintendo's rights. Because of this, we ask that you please remove the video in question from your channel, and confirm that you will not post any videos using unauthorized software or copies of games, distribute or continue work on the modification, or take any other steps that would infringe Nintendo's rights.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Sincerely,
    Nintendo Anti-Piracy Team "

Personally I think this is pretty stupid and childish in my mind, Nintendo is like that one special kid in kindergarten that had all the Crayons and wouldn't share with anyone and kept them to himself.

Many game companies could care less about someone making money off of their game as it's seen as free advertisement, not to mention if it's a famous youtuber or a youtuber with many subscribers, usually many people will purchase that game. Because watching someone playing a game isn't as fun in most cases, compared to actually playing yourself. Except scary games I don't like scary games lol.

Nintendo is just really infamous for being assholes on YouTube. Am surprised that they don't get rid of Super Smash Bro's game play from youtubers not part of the creator program.Special mention is that on the creator program whitelist, Smash Bro's isn't even on it or Bayonetta 2 like WTF!? those two are popular games.

Nintendo really needs to get their act together when it comes to this YouTube stuff, they can't understand free advertisement or something. What's next ? removing any video that makes them look bad or exposes them?

TheLazyGrizzly reacted to Keystone Nyan Cat in ALL NVidia GTX 670 drivers compared (2012 --> 2015)
[sCROLL DOWN TO SEE DRIVER COMPARISON GRAPHS]

I have been an owner of the GTX 670 since 2012. I’ve read numerous claims from people stating that new drivers have led to reduced performance, but all of them were one off cases. Nonetheless, I remained curious, and over the past few days, have put these claims to the test by comparing five AAA games, each using a different game engine.

(Please note the data values on the Y-axis)
The data collected is the average frames per second for a given play through. I urge you to draw your own conclusions with the given data; below is my interpretation.

All the tested games have had a net improvement in performance over time, even after their end of life and introduction of a new series of cards.

In Dirt 3, I was concerned with 353.06’s performance, which is almost 10 FPS lower than the preceding driver, 350.12; this is corrected with 353.06 though. Just Cause 2 had a consistent improvement in performance after 344.89, which may have to do with the release of the multiplayer mod during that time (see table), increasing the player base. Just Cause 2 has had an almost 25 FPS increase from its lowest performance in 301.42 and its best performance in 347.88. Battlefield 3 had a ~5 FPS boost from its first driver to the time leading to the 700 series launch Sleeping Dogs, and Crysis 2 have had no major performance improvement or degradation The data does not account for added features such as ShadowPlay, or for support for newer games and performance enhancing improvements such as the capability for running SLI when using older hardware which may improve the driver in people's view
    .
Below are the settings used for each of the tests, along with the in game mission/ benchmark which I used for gathering the average frames per second.
    Battlefield 3
               Preset: Ultra
               Mission: Going Hunting
               FOV: 70
               Motion Blur: 0
Stop benchmark 5-6 seconds after first enemy fires at you Crysis 2
               Preset: Ultra
Mission: A Walk in the Park
               Motion Blur: Low
When spawned; walk on the pathway, looking only straight on. Use armor mode with   the rifle equipped to take down the first   enemy; and invisibility with a shotgun to take down the other two. Walk up to the garden with the cloak, and pan from left to right    and then end the benchmark Dirt 3
          Preset: Ultra (no AA)
Mission: Benchmark (8 people rally in Aspen, 3rd person view) Just Cause 2
Preset: Ultra (no AA; Bohek Filter Off)
               Mission: Benchmark (Concrete Jungle)
               Motion Blur: 0 Sleeping Dogs
               Preset: Extreme
               Mission: Benchmark
Motion Blur: 0 Here’s the procedure I followed for removing and installing a driver
Uninstall the driver in “Programs and Features” Restart the system as prompted Delete the NVidia folder in the c:// folder Install the new driver (deselect everything else such as PhysX, HD Audio, GeForce Experience) Restart the system as prompted In NVidia Control Panel,
change only the following V-Sync option à “Use the 3D application setting” à “Off”
If the time taken for the drop down menu under V-Sync takes over 40 seconds to open during which time the NVidia control panel freezes, the menu is denoted “laggy”, if it responds instantly, it’s denoted “responsive” Miscellaneous
During testing, the GTX 670 stayed under 70 C in a temperature controlled environment of 21 C All tests were conducted offline 3DMark could not be tested because it cannot start offline Crysis 3 was omitted since during cut scenes, the frame rate exceeded 1000 frames per second Dying Light and Battlefield 4 are fairly new, the range of drivers to test them from would be small, hence these games were omitted I was initially testing two 670s in SLI under maximize 3D performance on a resolution of 5760x1080. However, I soon realized that not many people would have a setup consisting of three screens, hence opted for a single 1080p panel. However, SLI on a single screen caused purple flickering in all tested games; something which I could not find a solution to. Unfortunately, I ruled out several games such as BioShock Infinite and Arkham City to this; a problem solved by using only a single GPU. I did not revisit these games for testing when using a single card. Should I do this test in the future again with another card, I will bear this in mind. Certain games such as Dying Light crashed when FRAPS was being used to record the frames per second. At the time of running the tests, the only applications running in the background were Microsoft Security Essentials (for all), MSI Afterburner (for all), and, FRAPS (when testing Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3)
All tests were run on the following setup-
Intel i7 3770K ASUS P8Z77-V-Pro Zotac GTX 670 (Reference) Corsair HX850 Corsair 8GB (2X4GB) CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Corsair Force 3 SSD for the OS Windows 7 Home Premium 2x WD1003ABYX RE4 HDDs in RAID 0 for the games Acer S221HQL (1920X1080)           [i appear to have forgotten to make the table; I'll add that tomorrow morning (it's 3 in the morning right now!) ]
