My theory is they felt like they didn't have enough control over the service, so they removed it. It's not like they haven't been power-mad before; remember when they tried to take control of the CD distribution for Nintendo's SNES-CD addon? Equally power-mad Nintendo completely destroyed them at CES that year. And then the CDI was born. What a great system that was.

Back in the 9th grade 2 other buddies of mine and myself started our own school project. Our project was to dismantle a computer, make our own case, and assemble the computer inside the case we built ourselves. For the longest time a friend of mine had been saying that he knows pretty much everything about computers. Turns out he didn't know anything, but i'll get back to that.
I went to a very cheap-ass school, so there were always trouble with the infrastructure there, so as you probably guessed the computers at the school crashed all the time. Also note that all of the computers were "hooked up" for lack of a better term to ONE Server. This was a big school with around 200+ computers all hooked up to this one server. (Recipe for disaster). Since all of the computers were connected to the same server that would mean that if there was one single error on the server, then all of the 200+ computers at my school would simply not work.
These computers all went down the drain atleast twice a week making them completely and utter useless. And everytime the system went down the teachers always asked this friend of mine that thought he knew everything about computers. Let's call him Bob to make it easier to follow. Anyways, The teachers would always have Bob look at the computers, and tell them what was wrong. Ofcourse he didn't know what he was talking about, so he said the following: "Yeah, mhm, okay. Yes it seems that you have gotten a network system error inside the processor, it will be back up in an hour". Yes, that is ACTUALLY what he said, let that sink in for a moment. Oh, I totally forgot; The time he said that it was a "Network system error inside the processor". the teachers were trying to figure out why there was no sound from the speakers. Turns out the audiojack was not plugged in.
Anyways I got really off-track here. My friends and I were assembling the computer into the case that we had built ourselves. When suddenly Bob came by. My friends and I were kind of annoyed at Bob, so we asked him "which one of these components is the motherboard"? I bet anyone here on the forum would be able to point out which component in a computer was the motherboard, right? Bob pointed at the HDD, of course we all laughed, because this was proof that he knows nothing about computers, and was just spewing bullshit all the time. After we all calmed ourselves down, I said: "well surely you know this is the graphics card, right? (I pointed at the CPU). Bob said: "Yes ofcourse, how dumb do you think I am? That's when I almost broke out in tears laughing.

Since that event he stopped claiming he knew everything about computers and was an "IT-Guru". Anyways, my buddies and I delivered in our assignment, and got ourselves an A.
    Cheers! ;)

I have a non-techie friend who boasts of his "upgraded" computer. He said it's very fast now because he added 3TB of storage.

Some guy called my office, trying to sell me computers. I just said "oh you mean those little box's with the tv on top? Yeah, our accountant has some". He promptly gave up and hung up the phone lol

well, it needs to be smaller, and in the world of electronics smaller == more money.

EDIT: also, for as little optical drives that ship these days, slot-loading drives sell even less, thats a factor as well.

I dunno I've been pretty accustomed to Windows but I guess it wouldn't hurt.

Heck, I'd buy a HP/Acer pre-built if it were priced $800 and performed like $1200.

But it would take a very long time for Mac OS to come near the amount of games the PC has.

    I use both...so I am fimilar~ish with OS X Yosemite

Now would I buy one....no, simply because I am never a fan of prebuilt system...

I much rather go through the trouble of hacking a bios of my motherboard and forcing OS X to work on my machines, which I have done..

I know it's ludicrous, but I'll probably use a K80 in it. I was thinking of using a lower end card like the K20 or K20X, but they're just a bit too low-end for my liking.

From what I've seen, there's not much difference between the Tesla and a comparable GTX graphics card as far as processing power is concerned. The major difference between them is reliability. Teslas are designed and tested to be run 24/7 under full or near-full load. They also have ECC memory, whereas the GTX cards don't. Both of these, along with the testing and validation -- given that these are used in supercomputing applications in academia and government across the globe -- is why they cost so freakin' much. For what you're intending to do, they're not going to make much difference.

For example right now I have two GTX 680s and a GTX 660 running 24/7 at full load for BOINC. The 680 has the same processor as the Tesla K10, though the K10 has two making it more equivalent to a GTX 690. But the Tesla K10 still lists for $2,000 -- probably $1,000 used on eBay -- whereas you can get 5 or 6 used GTX 680s for that price or a couple used GTX 690s. The K20 and K40 have the same processor as the GTX 780. The K80 has the same processor as the GTX 980.

For Folding or BOINC, there's no benefit to going with a Tesla that doesn't overcome the tremendous difference in cost. Cray uses it in their super computers for its reliability, not its power, where thousands of these are being used in parallel for a single task -- the Titan supercomputer has over 18,000 K20X cards. Pixar and Dreamworks probably use these as well in their render farm.

Save your money and get an equivalent nVidia graphics card. If you're really itching to burn $4,000 or $5,000 on this, buy several GTX 980s or 980Ti cards, or even Titan X cards instead of a Tesla, especially the K80. You'll get a hell of a lot more computing power for the price. Sure they won't be nearly as reliable as the Tesla and they won't have the ECC memory, but they'll be just as fast.
