Oh for sure. Don't get me wrong. Running 1440 or 4k native on a 1440 or 4k display will of course be much better than 1440 or 4k with VSR/DSR on a 1080p display. After all, with VSR/DSR, what you're seeing in the end is still in 1080p.

I'm at work right now so i can't grab any of my own screen shots, but here's one that shows some of where the difference is:

If you look at the blades of grass, especially the further into the distance, you can see the difference in sharpness.

Problem with those screenshots is they don't show where DSR/VSR really makes the difference. All you can really see there is the textures which aren't really affected by DSR/VSR. However, where you can somewhat see the difference in those shots is by looking at the tree in the background on the right. Look at the detail on the leaves. At 1080p the leaves look somewhat "clumped" and it's hard to make out each individual leaf. Now even just going to the 1440p shot, you can already see the increase in detail. You can more easily make out each leaf.

Basically, where VSR and DSR make the most difference is not in the textures but in the fine details. Objects with sharp/fine edges etc. like power lines, wire fencing, grass, hair, tree branches and leaves (Skyrim and TW3 definitely benefit here). So yeah, sorry, but those BF4 screens don't really show the benefits of super resolution at all and where it does, it's really hard to see in those examples.

I've never understood the bashing in the first place. People can buy what they want. I want an Alienware for the road, so I bought an Alienware. I wanted a gaming desktop, so I picked the parts and put one together at home where the real demanding games are played. Then I wanted a show-case desktop, so I cut some tubes, bent them, and stuck some UV reactive fluid in them for shits and giggles. All of the above have a purpose, and they make me (the one who spent the money) happy.

That's what matters, not what others think of your purchase decision.

And just like 99% of the people in this world, they will not buy Alienware.

    Do you travel for work?
I can spend over a day sitting on an airplane for work. My work load is entirely tenative on if anything is broke. I play games on my laptop waiting for work to come up.

Plenty of bashing against Alienware in here, as usual!

Personally, I have a 17 R5 with the 4800MQ and the 780M. Serves me well with the games I play (dota2, cs:go, elite dangerous). It is great bringing the laptop with me when I'm on my long business trips, and also helps that it looks amazing just laying around.

Great to see Alienware put stronger hardware in their products to meet the needs of their niche market! There will always be people who don't understand that buying a product is not always about the specs and real world performance. Emotions play a big part, especially in regards to an iconic brand such as Alienware, and the feeling that comes with owning one is worth the price alone.
