conspiravision got a reaction from myselfolli in Any suggestions on file sharing as a service on general purpose server
Self-hosted nextcloud is pretty legit and it is open source.

@BartholomewK I feel obliged to point out that RAID isn't technically a backup solution per se. It will protect you if a drive goes bad/dies but if you delete a file accidentally, overwrite a file, or it becomes corrupted, RAID will not save you. No way to "roll back" to an earlier version.

Then wait for stock - should be back soon. Losing 50% of your performance because of impatience is not a good idea imo.

I would wait for the 3900x too. You are giving up 50% more cores/threads for the same cost.

Wait for the 3900X (or 3950X) to be available again - the 9900K is just not worth the money considering you lose out on 4 cores/8 threads, features such as PCIe 4.0 and have no upgrade path.

look at bequiet offerings, Arctic. Fryzen
those are all good.

PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives will offer slightly better software development performance. I9-9900K still rules in gaming, but not by much and not in all titles.

not worth it, get an aircooler.
overspending on storage. no need to get NVMe

conspiravision got a reaction from suchamoneypit in Changing directories to a folder in home?
Use tab completion. When you start going down a directory tab tab and it will list all the options. Also shell scripts need to be chmod 755 permissions. Or run as sh ./blah .
Basics:
./ run from where I am currently
cd .. go back a directory
cd takes you back to your home dir.

Never heard a monitor being called a VDU, but after some quick googling that is what British people used to call monitors back in the day... However in modern times they might be referring to VDU's as dumb terminals for VDI(virtual desktop infrastructure) work stations, where a server does the leg work and processing and all the monitor does is display what the remote server is doing.

conspiravision reacted to Jedi in Would you pay 4.99$ for a Linux distro that works?
And you base this on what, exactly?..
There is not a single piece of software that is guaranteed to have no bugs/crashes. Not a one. Secondly, Red Hat is far from a distro that "JUST WORKS".
If there was such a thing, absolutely... I would pay much more than that for software that is absolutely guaranteed to work in every single circumstance, however given that not a thing like that exists... I am afraid I will be keeping my $4.99+
