asiancorruption got a reaction from NumLock21 in Dell 7577 review from the perspective of a Mac user
Here's a review from a perspective that is seemingly rare. I used windows all my life, then I was given the chance to go to Mac for well under MSRP. Now after a year of using a 2015 macbook pro 13, and finally giving up because i couldn't run both macos and windows 10 on a 120gb hard drive. I finally decided to go back to windows because i needed it to run programming software for college, and more importantly I wanted to start playing video games properly (going from 60 fps @ 720p to 140fps on maxed out settings makes CSGO feel like a different game).

Here's a rundown of the specs:
    GTX 1060 MAX Q 6gb
    8gb DDR4 RAM
    i5 7300 HQ
    1080p IPS 15.6 display
    NVME 256gb ssd
    57wh Battery with quick charge

    Build Quality:
Well, coming from a Macbook pro, this thing isn't too bad. It has the usual traits of a well built laptop: no deck flex, sturdy keys, not too much screen flex (but the panel does have a little backlight bleed)  and overall feels solid.
(Also, their choice in material was a good one. Smooth sturdy plastic instead of rubberized plastic)

    Aesthetic:
Going from a Macbook, which is often praised for their minimal aesthetic to something relatively "gamer aesthetic" was an abrupt change. Thankfully, this laptop isn't too in your face. Red backlighting, with a red border around the trackpad, as well as a red dell logo and red exhaust vents. its pretty unassuming imo. The bezels on this laptop are huge though. if i had to guess it's at least half an inch on all sides with the bottom being the thickest. Ironic considering dell's almost invisible bezels on their XPS line.

    Performance:
I'll admit I'll probably not do this laptop any favors considering this is the field I'm the least experienced in. This is my first gaming laptop, and what a machine it is. The first hour it was out of the box i immediately noticed how much more powerful it is than the Macbook just downloading games.  For the most part, I get over 100fps most of the time in the games that i'm playing currently. which is mostly CS:GO, Saints row 3  and Overwatch all on the highest possible settings. The only game that didn't run too well was just cause 3, which is because my laptop was configured with only 8gb of RAM. Keep that in mind if you play really demanding titles.
Battery life is typical for a gaming laptop, at around 4 hours and 1.5 hours gaming. Its a huge difference compared to the 7-8 i was getting on Mac, but it doesn't really bother me considering i keep this on the charger most of the time. Temps are good. underload the hottest temp i saw was 68c, not bad for a 1060.

    Ergonomics:
The keyboard is good, great feel, properly spaced out, has a numpad and the texture of the keys is smooth, instead of being textured and cheap feeling. The backlighting is Red, 2 stage and weak. my $25 RGB gaming mouse has far better leds.
The trackpad uses windows precision drivers. Accurate, clicky but the surface feels somewhat cheap because of the texture. I bring my mouse with me to class because of this.

    IO:
Comes with 3 usb 3.0 ports ( one is fast charging) 1 usb type c with 4 lane pcie for full bandwidth. 1 hdmi 2.0, power port, kensington lock, RJ45,   SD card slot and 3.5 jack. Also comes with a fingerprint sensor, which is great. Almost as accurate as touch ID on my iphone 7+

    Audio:
3.5 jack sounds fine, not noticeably worse or better than my MBP , the speakers are loud, forward firing and sound fine. They lack bass though.

Things i don't like about this laptop:

While there are a lot of ports, i don't really like where they're located. 2 of the usb ports are on the right side, and make it awkward to place your mouse beside because of the cable making extra clutter.

The hinge in mounted in the middle. I worry that if i move the lid using the corners of the screen, I'll torque it over time

The backlighting is super weak, and its red.

The trackpad kinda feels like crap, but it is accurate.

The power brick is huge. I emphasize the word brick. it's bigger than the power supply for my 27 inch monitor.

For having a max Q gpu, its relatively thick and heavy compared to other max Q laptops

My model came with a little bit of coil whine,  not too bad though.

Overall, I do really like this laptop. Especially for the price I got it for. After my 10% student discount and black friday discount. I bought this for $1,170 CAD before taxes ( or $913 USD). Most 1050 ti laptops are $1200 CAD so this thing was a steal. After i sell my macbook, i will have probably paid next to nothing to switch up.

So long as it's formatted using a standard filesystem in Windows (and not a multi-disk enclosure using raid etc), you should have no problems.

The only folk likely to have problems doing this, are those that are pulling from network attached storage arrays. Off the shelf NAS boxes usually run some kind of bsd/Linux and so the drives will be natively formatted in a filesystem Wndows won't recognise by default.

If the drive you're pulling from is a simple usb enclosure with one drive, you'll probably be fine.

According to a quick google search mac are compatible in both nfs and fat32.. depedns on what you want to do though, so for instance the mac can have one filesystem partition for it's OS, same with windows and windows use nfs... then for data you want to share between both drives would be best to keep on a separate partition either in fat32 or nfs. Then if you have to re-install OS at all you won't lose your files.

I haven't noticed any issues with mine. Just make sure you have enough room for drivers and your applications. Also remember windows updates and you may need to clear your temp files once in a while to save space

The cameras progressively get some improvements in low light/high ISO performance and dynamic range but it's hardly anything 'game chaging'.  By faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar the lenses used by the photographer is much more important towards the quality of a photo and the skill set of the photographer will count for vastly more than the lenses.

In short, if you want to take good photographs, learn the art and skill of taking photographs because dumping money into cameras won't make you much better.

asiancorruption reacted to AbrahamoLincolni in Out of curiosity, how does a rebel T3i stack up today's cameras? Has the rebel series improved vastly?
Every generation or every few generations of cameras shows improvement in technical performance to a certain degree.  But if you're still a student without your own income or aren't really making money with the camera, don't really consider buying a new camera unless either the one you own breaks or it can no longer provide you with the features you need.  Visually speaking, as in looking at the photos with your eyes, you will hardly be able to tell the difference between a photo taken in average conditions with a camera from a few years ago to a photo taken with a camera model that was released today.  The biggest difference for anything that is visible will likely be due to differences in lens used.  A photo taken with a 18-55 kit lens at 50mm can be very different from a photo taken with a 50mm f1.2 prime lens.  A lot goes into producing a published photo and most of it is in the imagination of the person using the camera and also likely in the time he or she spends editing the photo.  If you don't know how to take a photo, how to frame a scene, how to set the exposure, essentially if you don't know how to take a good photo then whether you own an old cheap camera or a brand new top of the line camera will not make a difference.

I used to get 30-50 fps on low settings in csgo on my macbook, now i get 90-120 cause i simply reinstalled macos. back everything useful up onto a USB drive and reinstall windows and it should all be fixed. Takes a while, but it should work.

So my brother has just gotten on Instagram and has a tendency not to look to hard at/for things at any given time. He is also very territorial. He came bursting into my room and said "WHY DID YOU LOG ONTO YOUR ACCOUNT ON MY PHONE?!?!?!" I said that i didn't even know his pass code (which i didn't) and defended myself anyway. I said that I'll log off of my account. But as i was doing so, i found out that he had gone onto my profile and thought that I was on his phone. When I told him this, he acted like he knew about it the whole time. So after that, every time he's asked my for tech help, I've told him to "READ EVERY WORD ON THE PAGE."

It depends on what their focus was in comp sci.  If the person went into comp sci for the programming, those are the people I've found that tend to not know much about the underlying hardware. (Even though I personally think they should still know a little more of the hardware basics than they sometimes do, regardless of what their focus was.)

Recent story. One of my friends has been so excited to get his google pixel recently, i have no clue why its just another smartphone... Anyways he gets it and starts installing all of his apps. 10 days later he remembers an app he has yet to install called "Yikyak" he goes installs it launches it and it uses local services to find location. His location isnt working on the app. I tell him to reboot his phone, he said no thanks, I knew this was the fix since I've had this problem before. After 5 minutes of arguing with him he says "I dont want to reboot my phone because it damages it and I dont want to break it my new phone" I just kinda sat there in amazement. Couple minutes later he asks me how to reboot his phone that he has for 10 days now and the app works after the reboot.... WHY ARE PEOPLE SO IGNORANT.

Not all Mac users are unreasonable. There are some that are total dicks and aren't like, "PCs ARE DUMB AND APPLE IS AWESOME I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A MAC IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT YOU'RE STUPID," but there are reasonable ones out there that are technologically knowledgeable but just like the integration or those that recognize pcs are good at some things.

And while I do agree that some Apple products are overpriced, I don't believe all of them are. While I don't like the 15" MacBook pros, MacBooks, new MacBook pros, or MacBook airs, I do like the 2015 13" MacBook Pro. Quite honestly I believe you get what you're paying for in those laptops.

I hate the Apple fanboys who are like, "PCs ARE DUMB," but I hate the people who think they know about technology and go around saying, "APPLE IS DUMB AND ALL APPLE USERS ARE DUMB BECAUSE YOU CAN THE SAME PERFORMANCE FOR CHEAPER" even more. They act like they know stuff put really they don't.
