The 1650 is the most cut down GPU in the Turing lineup. The statement that its power efficiency is going to somehow stop 1000W systems is complete nonsense. There is always going to be a person that wants the most powerful hardware, and that requires more power. The 1650 is not going to inspire low power draw in future cards, the only reason the 1650 uses so little power is because it is a very efficient architecture and an incredibly cut down chip. Architecture, Node size, die size are all factors in energy usage.

This is no longer true for WoW which now has multi-core support.

How much do you spend per month on eating/groceries?
ThePD replied to bcredeur97's topic in Off Topic
It varies for me depending on how much I eat out at restaurants. Ranges anywhere between 60 - 180 a month. -
That would be really interesting actually. I like ray tracing but I don't think the current gen cards handle it nearly well enough for me to invest into it this generation, but if you were able to dedicate a entire GPU to handling the ray tracing, perhaps the FPS hit could be mitigated and the amount of rays increased so high that the visual impact would be much more obvious. I would totally go for a 2080Ti if I could convert my 980Ti into a dedicated ray-tracing card

Nvidia says 'something super is coming', any guesses?

Nvidia says 'something super is coming', any guesses?
ThePD replied to MeatFeastMan's topic in Tech News
We don't have anything. It is all rumor. We don't know specs, we don't know prices. This could be just like when they did a memory speed bump on the 1060 which did nothing for actual performance. Until we see actual specs and pricing, nothing has changed. -

Early adopters rekt. Seriously though, if WCCFtech is actually accurate then I feel the new cards will be just as short lived as the current RTX cards. Next gen Nvidia cards are supposedly using EUV 7NM from Samsung and I would imagine those cards would have a much bigger performance jump then we saw from Pascal to Turing. Even if Super cards are going up a tier and a new 2080ti is coming out, I would hold out for 2020 and see Navi 20 and next gen Nvidia first. -
If someone came into the bathroom and was doing a livestream I would be irritated personally. This is the problem with the IRL live streams because a small minority of users end up doing things that are completely inappropriate. Another streamer by the name of 'Arab Andy' went into a college he did not attend and live streamed himself doing a bomb scare. I could see this kind of behavior becoming more common in the future honestly.

Which is largely why this launch is incredibly disappointing. Nvidia has been taking well deserved flak for overcharging for the RTX cards. And hopefully AMD will take the same Flak for overpricing Navi.

Ryzen 9 3950X (16-core). AMD copies Intel
ThePD replied to Turtle Rig's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Programs have been using more cores each year. The same argument could of been said about the first dual cores and quad cores. The majority of people buying new CPUs are people who won't be using them for gaming. Does that mean AMD needs to create more families of CPU products to market to a 'gamer' over a power user? AMD is not copying Intel. Why would they copy a company who is in serious trouble in terms of future CPU launches? From what we have seen, the entire 3rd gen Ryzen lineup is going to be exceptional at gaming. There is no such thing as a 'gaming' CPU, because no CPU was designed to just play games. The 3950X is going to appeal to somebody and AMD knows that. To be quite honest, that CPU appeals to me personally and will likely be in my computer come the 7th of July. -
I think the price is too high to be honest. Especially the 5700 XT
-
Well they did technically do a price increase on the 1080ti from the 980ti. Think the 980ti was 650 msrp launch and the 1080ti was 700.
-
If the 40CU 5700XT is 10% on average faster than the 2070 (grain of salt)... I wonder what AMD could of done had they offered a 60-64 CU variant. Was hoping AMD would take a shot with high end Navi but looks like Radeon VII is still the king for the time being.

Love the black and gold. Especially with the red illuminating between the RAM sticks. Very nice build.

The 2700X has already had multiple price drops. There have been events where one can be bought for 240-250 on Amazon or Newegg. The original launch price was 330 dollars and the 2700X on newegg is priced currently at 284. Look around, deals can be found already.

Vega 64 has 0 CUDA cores. CUDA is Nvidia. You are thinking of AMD's Stream Processors which effectively do the same thing as CUDA.
-
I guess the question is, why do you feel that the 3000 series Ryzen doesn't feel impressive to you? If 330 bucks is too much for an 8c/16t cpu then choose a cheaper option. It is bleeding edge technology and will carry a bleeding edge price, but it is still far superior in pricing compared to the Intel alternative. For me, I spent 350 dollars on a 6c/12t cpu called the i7-5820k. Overall, my CPU was a horrendous overclocker and has not satisfied my needs for a long time. I lost the silicon lottery big time. At the time of purchase, the only CPU in that lineup with more cores was the 5960X which was close to 1000 dollars at the time. And now we have mainstream CPUs from AMD that are 330 dollars that are going to beat the performance of that 1000 dollar CPU. This is very exciting times for people with older cpus.

I actually never saw TLJ because when I saw TFA I was incredibly disappointed.
