  1. I think he means the connector on the HD is gone, if that is the case and you need the data from that drive, find a PC specialist in your area ! I can do that sort of thing for instance, but I would have to have a similar drive and be able to remove the HD controller board from the drive and replace it with a similar one... and even then I would only recommend you do this in order to get the data off the drive. Do not keep using the drive in that type of configuration, you're asking for more trouble than it's worth.
  2. He could use a 750 ti also, but I meant the 780ti, in my area there are 2 on craigslist and i also see ebay listings for the 780ti for around 125 ( i know, a little more )\ EDIT- My apologies, yes the 780 does require extra power, the 750 does not (lack of sleep )
  3. From what you describe, you aren't going to be doing anything more than 1080p even if you get a new monitor, at least right now. In my opinion, you could even try something like a GTX 780ti. The 780ti requires no extra power supply connectors and still gives excellent performance playing the titles you listed. And you can find a 780ti for approx. 100 USD or less ( I don't know what it would be where you are). If you are just needing to upgrade graphics, that may be an option for you. If you want future use and expandability such as better / newer titles and better resolution, then you may want to go with the 1060 option you asked about. Just thinking out loud Good luck
  4. I fail to see how a 6700k and a 1070 fail at 1440p streaming ! I use an FX-8320 and a 970 and stream at 1440 on twitch and record at downsampled 1080. Now I can't do both at once and still game effectively, but gaming and one of those is flawless. If you can't stream nicely with a 6700k and 1070 (if thats what you have), then something else could be an issue. imho
  5. I agree, best bet is to find a low cost replacement board on craigslist or ebay.
  6. Just a thought, you could try a different power supply. I had an issue once wherein the PSU actually 'killed' my 2nd monitor due to, i presume, 'dirty signal'. I picked up an EVGA supernova 650 and it solved the blackout issue and both monitors have been fine ever since. I am not telling you to buy an evga, you need to make your own decision, however you can try Johnny Guru, he has literally pages of reviews on all sorts of PSUs, if you are interested. http://www.jonnyguru.com/ Not an ad for him, but it's a good source of info. Good luck
  7. Saw the video of the new HDR capabilities of the RX-480. I'm using a GTX 970 right now. I would totally love to have a 480 just for the color / tone balance and enhancements. WOW
  8. Try this, learn, gain knowledge and understand why, not just a suggestion that someone told you http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator
  9. Suggestions: (and taking into consideration you actually want to stay in this home or increase it's resale value) If you are doing a stud-out renovation (replacing wall boards, etc.) then you should definitely consider Cat 7 wiring to each of the bedrooms, the family room, the garage and the kitchen. Now the arguments come.... "why would you want to blah blah blah". For the answer... if you are removing wall boards anyway, just do it, you never know what you or the next homeowner may want or need for internet usage. Bedrooms....given, family room,...given, but garage ? Garage may be used at a later date for internet enabled smart home devices, garage doors, who knows, but it will have a connection if you don't want wireless security to be an issue. But why my kitchen ? Usage now or later for internet enabled smart home devices such as say, a refrigerator that has ordering capabilities. Yes but I can do all that wirelessly ! Yes you can but you said you were doing a renovation, so as I said, *IF* it's a stud-out renovation, just do it. If you aren't tearing up wallboards, run a line to where ever the TV will be for a smart tv and be done with it, maybe add a couple of wireless access points at the opposite end of the house from where ever the wireless router is located. If you have a basement it's Uber easy; I do and I wired all the bedrooms in the house running the cables through the basement into a first floor built-in cabinet that serves as the hide for the switch and networking gear. Good luck, good scores, rock on !
  10. Always get the best SINGLE card you can afford, you will only see increasingly marginal improvements with multiple cards. Most setups (most... not an opening for a huge argument...) will only actually *need* multiple cards if you are planning to game across multiple monitors at once, such as nvidia surround across 3 monitors, then you'll see a slight improvement using dual cards.
  11. So, instead of bickering about how you can get 2% more performance from one vendor or another, i'll attempt an answer. If you want to buy a card now, go for it, it will last you for years at 60 fps. Have you, in the past, had good luck with a specific vendor such as team red or team green ? Then by all means, buy a card from that vendor, either one will do pretty much the same thing, which is to say, display your video. All other arguments are invalid because you said you wanted 60fps... not 60 fps in a specific game or on a specific monitor or with a specific driver or setup or game or engine or ....omg who cares. If you have the money and want to upgrade, pick your fav team and get one
  12. Might also try a different twitch upstream server if you haven't already.
  13. Campus might actually be the issue, you see, you aren't the only one using bandwidth. You can test that theory by streaming from a friend's house one time, so you know that connection won't have any extra users for example. Just a thought
  14. You said you have a 100Mbps connection. The upload speed is the most important to know. The connection I have is 60 meg down and upload is still good enough to support my stream at 60 fps. If you have a crappy upstream you won't be able to stream smoothly. Edit: the stream should not affect your pc fps at all, if it does, that's a pc lag issue.
