Intel caught fudging benchmarks in M1 vs Core i7 11th Gen comparison
descendency replied to Jet_ski's topic in Tech News
Apple should release a benchmark of performance without a fan using a macbook air. . . and have all of those 0s for intel -

Apple M1 = the rest of us are living in the stone age!?
descendency replied to gal-m's topic in General Discussion
This is false. The Cortex A series of processors that everyone puts in smartphones are optimized for this purpose. ARM has technologies that are designed for server workloads and for HPC. We will see how long it is before Apple (and others) take before they start implementing things like the V2 cores and N1 cores from ARM. The V2 is a refreshed design of the V1 core that was designed for efficient server workloads. The N1 chip is straight up designed to be a performance monster. No performance per watt stuff. -

Crypto miners are hoarding early shipments of RTX 3080s
descendency replied to DuckDodgers's topic in Tech News
What happens when the mining market dies and the PC gaming community just migrates to consoles because they're fed up with $1500 midtier cards? -
It really doesn't matter what the price is. These cards almost never have a market nor should they. I'll let Luke explain so I don't have to type more:

Great Firewall. The US is just retaliating for this finally.

Linus Torvalds: "I Hope AVX512 Dies A Painful Death"
descendency replied to DuckDodgers's topic in Tech News
His point is about Intel creating an instruction, getting some benchmark company to create a tool to test it, and then running it against Ryzen and Intel chips to show that Intel is still relevant. But no one is using AVX512 (yet). "look at how bad Ryzen chips are at running this one off test for an instruction that we just invented! Buy our stuff plx." It has nothing to do with the size of the ISA.- 47 replies

I just went to eBay to look how much I could flip a 2080 TI for (sell the 2080TI, revert back to a backup card for a few months - buy a brand new 3080TI and pocket the extra cash...), but the prices looked normal to me. If I'm wrong, I'll gladly sell someone a 2080TI for 3x market value edit: I see. Someone is guessing there will be a resurgence of mining. That's stupid. There is a reason it is dead.

The 4xxx laptop chips are Zen 2 parts, not Zen 3. I really hate AMD's naming scheme. -
eBay is port scanning your system when you load the webpage
descendency replied to AshRiver's topic in Tech News
Does this happen on every page or just the main one? This feels so scummy. Also, I recommend NOT disabling your WebSockets as the newest webapps will break without them. It is better to just find a way to block ebay('s scanning) than to block a lot of legitimate uses. -
I wonder what the margins are for calculators that are allowed on exams... 80%? 90%? They just got color screens would could have had in a gameboy color.

Killer has a huge market with board partners and OEMs because they sell "gaming NICs" Plus, it removes some of intel's competition in the NIC space.

Agreed. This isn't about jobs. It's about taxes. The factory won't move (they can't afford to lose the production capacity). The HQ might. Even that isn't that simple, as Silicon Valley is a HUGE market for employing tech workers that Tesla needs. Honestly, this comes off as another whiney Elon Musk rant. For as much as I like what he is achieving - I really hate his shitty attitude.
