It died that soon? Ok maybe it was from a bad batch then. If the next one dies as well (if you get another of those 8TB Seagate HDD) then I'd suggest looking at a HGST hard drive. I thought only the 3TB series from Seagate where having issues, but the expensive 8TB as well??????

Edit 2: And their HDD DSAA (Dead Soon After Arrival) and DOA rates are still scarily like those from the 90's-except back then they did everything they could to bring failures down, and my Seagate U5 (which still works and is a good example) http://redhill.net.au/d/110.php
All of my other older and newer Seagate HDD without the same measures taken either have loads of reallocated sectors (13GB worth for the 80GB HDD that was used in the chipped Xbox that my Mum wants upgraded), or have mechanically failed well before the stated MTBF (only the 160GB HDD-which is the same model line as the dying 80GB seems to have no issues so far).

Well the drive died today and could not even be recognized in UEFI. So I was right to be worried; I returned it to the store and hopefully they will refund me..

My 3TB hard drive is fine that I got with them (knock on wood) but I'm not sure of how good they on average, and the reason I got mine was a combination of avoiding seagate and still trying to get one for cheap

My OS is on an SSD (Samsung 840Pro 256GB). Hence not the case of OS on the archive kind of delays. This drive was purchased to move all my music/movies from 2x1,5TB drives to it.
 
Yes I formatted it to GPT as it's suitable for >2TB drives. I selected NTFS for its filesystem too. I don't think it requires a different FS right?

It offers 27", 144Hz, 1ms response and Gsync. The price is kinda steep though.

Check the price on amazon/local stores and knock off like 1/3rd at least
