There are so many people building rigs with 500…

@Moonzy I like what AMD is doing and I think it makes upgrading easier, but when building from scratch I do think that in a way Intel's approach is actually better since customers don't have to worry about out of the box support.
  2. There are so many people building rigs with 5000 series ryzen chips getting screwed over by boards requiring a BIOS update. Poor guys.

Sometimes u can't deny that Intel's way to ditch board is better for the customers because of this

Also, ryzen only supported their board one generation more than Intel, that's still too close for normal user's upgrade cycle

Let's see if AMD learnt, and supports more generation with their upcoming socket

  3. Try doing what Moonzy said, it's likely that your board will need a BIOS update in order to support Ryzen 5000 series processors.
  4. It will depend on the game, you'll get higher fps overall but the FX series is pretty bad by today's standards and it will bottleneck a 580. If you can upgrade to a cheap Ryzen 2000-3000 series chip down the line you would likely see a pretty sizeable performance bump.
  5. It doesn't seem like this board supports the ability to update the bios without a CPU, the earliest version that supports the 5000 series is version 7C36v1B which released on November 11th. It likely didn't ship with that version. I've heard of some manufacturers shipping out "BIOS update kits" that include the necessary components to update the BIOS so that may be worth looking into. Otherwise just pick up a cheap 2000 series chip (your motherboard also seems to support certain 1000 series chips too https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/PRESTIGE-X570-CREATION#support-cpu)
  6. Yes it will work. For future reference all motherboard manufacturers will have a CPU support list on the motherboard product page. Here's the list for yours: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B450-AORUS-M-rev-10/support#support-cpu
  7. I like the 32in and it's great for me but it can be too big for some people, depends on sitting distance.
  8. I'm currently using the Gigabyte G32QC 32inch 1440p 165hz monitor and it's pretty good. Though 32 inches is quite big, LG's 27GL83A-B is a 27inch 1440p 144hz IPS which would also be a great choice.
  9. It'll look pretty terrible unless you're using it as a TV.
  10. Download the Windows media creation tool and burn the ISO to a usb. Then install windows from the USB onto the new SSD.

wait ive seen you on twitter also your birthday…

Yeh I see you pop up on my feed occasionally, you seem cool so I just followed you. I came back here recently too because my CPU died and I had to troubleshoot what was going on. Good luck on the monitor btw 144hz makes such a big difference.

  14. Do you have a budget? Resolution? Refresh rate? What are your computers specs.
  15. There's nothing wrong with the card though, it's just an annoying noise.

1TB nvme drives are cheap now hmmmmm

@STRMfrmXMN I know right, I'm really thinking of ditching hard drives for good for my main system.
  17. It likely is coil whine, it doesn't need to happen all the time, most of the time coil whine is only apparent under load.

I've been SSD-only for years, but I have about 60 GB free combined on all three of my SSDs. Really need to condense the storage drives into one and sell the old ones. Been eyeing those cheap Team and WD SSDs for months but haven't had the money. A cheap DRAMless SSD seems fine for my games/music/pics drive. I still remember buying a 120 GB OCZ Arc 100 6 years ago for $45 when that was an absolute steal. Can't believe how quickly things have evolved!

@STRMfrmXMN I remember paying $120 for a 60GB boot SSD, when that was a good Boxing Day price.

I give it 4 or 5 years and we'll see 4TB SSDs as the norm in most systems.

I forget when I got my boot drive, but I picked up a 1TB NVME for like 90 bucks and I was like WOAH. One purchase I regret is the 240GB sata m.2 I used to use for a boot drive (now serves as my linux boot), as I should have either just gotten it in a regular sata form factor or spent a little more on an nvme

  19. Try reinstalling it from scratch, using a USB drive with Windows on it. Not from the reset option. It certainly doesn't sound like anything "fried" your computer.
  20. The 350 watt likely didn't have enough power in the first place, but if it also fails with the 500w then my best guess is that it's a problem with the board's power delivery. If you have any higher wattage power supplies you can try them but it doesn't seem like that's the problem.
  21. That's a neat idea, surprisingly well executed too, good job.
  22. First thing that comes to mind, did you apply thermal paste? Idle temps should not be that high unless there's bad contact or no thermal paste. Also try connecting the CPU fan to your board instead of your cases fan controller. edit: if it's an AIO cooler, plug the pump into the board too.
  23. Oh wait I didn't even notice there was two. You have one for the video card and one for the rest of the components?
  24. I would not trust that power supply to hold up with an i7 and a 1070 for long
