remember that path in Visual Studio of a web project run in a random folder somewhere in the system32 or system (x64). UAC can block some content and your security options. You might not have read access of something like that on that folder. Try putting the file in a path where you have full rights (usually my documents is the best place) and hardcode the path to the swf file like "c:\users\[whatever]\my documents\..." you get the idea. Then try. If it works you know it's security of UAC. If not you need to check with other browsers. Specially flash i would not recommend using Chrome or Dolphin. I am having lots of loading issues with both of these browser but when that happen i don't see the black zone like you do.

After determining that we needed the recovery as it was too risky/slow to play around with it anymore. I took it to a data recovery center where it was expected to cost $4,000 someone on the client’s side said “let me check one last system we have” and boom all 8TB they needed. I was lucky, to be fast enough to stop the Data Recovery before it ended up costing us anything. Im sure they have learned their lesson and I will set them up with a proper FreeNAS box (ill make another thread for that soon) Now that the data is safe I want to try reinitializing with just the built-in tools to see if that would work. Just for fun obviously

@Mbarton In future if you need it Recover My Files can handle data recovery of RAID arrays, used it for the purpose a few times. Even if you don't want to pay for it it's a good tool to use a free trial to scan the disks to gauge recoverability. Only issue is you actually have to know the exact RAID type and stripe settings of the array.

If you care about your data, make a image of all your drives first. You want to remove the chance that you do something wrong and overwrite data.

send it to a data recovery service then. Trying stuff on your won will probably only make it wose. It won't be cheap but its your best hope. Next time make backups.

If it was me, I would try to explain to them by doing a few things in a linux VM on your main computer, this will show them roughly what you want to do and that your main PC wouldn't be able to handle ALL of those things at once and that's why you want a server. This will also give you a heads-up of what to expect yourself when you get the server.

As others have said, you need to help them understand your motives, you want to learn by experience. If IT is a potential career path for you, than hands on experience with setting up, breaking, troubleshooting, fixing, etc, can be a great learning tool.
Sometimes when explaining technical topics to people not versed in that area can be difficult. Analogies are helpful with this.

From what you said, their primary concern is over potential visibility of what you are doing on that Server. Maybe they are concerned you are viewing pornography or something. I can't think of too many other examples as to what they may be concerned about, if you have more information, it may help.  And if you are running a Linux system, there really if no way you can satisfy this concern of theirs.
The best bet is to be rational about it. Help them understand your reasons for wanting it (as a learning tool). Express top them that you are a couple years off being an adult, where you could make any of these decisions for yourself. Let them know you'll only be accessing it through your existing computer so they can look over your shoulder at any time. Some people are afraid of what they don't understand. But unless they have an interest, this is one area they will never fully understand.
Most importantly, don't give them any reason to doubt you or not trust you.

I work in IT now. I wouldn't have the knowledge and experience I have today if my parents did not give me the freedom to explore computer systems when I was younger. Not only the freedom, but they supported me in any way they could. I have no doubt in my mind that their support has been instrumental to my career.

Take the whole system out and build it on a test bench (cardboard box will do)  plug in all the components (but dont use the i5 keep that safe until we know what's going on)

You're most likely installing a bad device be it led stip hard drive/ssd or one of the 10`s of other parts

let me know what happens when you build the test bench
