Anyways, go to a store and try out different mice.  A G900 might be great for you or it might be horrible.  Popular mice : Zowie FK or EC series, Razer Deathadder, Logitech G303, G403, G502, G Pro, Steel Series Rival 300, Nixeus Revel, amd ,amy more.
Mouse pads are a matter of preference.  I have used the Steel Series QCK Heavy for several months and I love it.  Some prefer a faster mouse pad, some like them with dogs on them, etc...

Carmack admits this. But says he didn't steal any code.
I think we don't have any facts apart from that right? Are you saying that Oculus didn't do R&D. I know they got a lot of R&D from Carmack and from Valve but I don't think they were idling for years either.
-they have offices
-they pay employees
-they created and maintain oculus home software and SDK+API
-they pay 3rd party devs for store exclusives
-as mentioned above they spent years on R&D and prototyping

You will lose 144hz, though.  Pick up a VESA certified Displayport cable for the best of both worlds.  I assumed USB would work but it doesn't when I tried it on mine.

Don't go cheap on the cable as many, many users report issues with non standard DisplayPort cables.

I picked up a refurb XL2430T from BenQ for $250USD.  The 2411z is a good monitor as well.  Check their site for some deals.  LG makes a 144hz for around 300 and its pretty nice.

If it's not suppose to be unlimited don't call it that in the first place
