I am literally writing this on m 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch and will soon be upgrading to a 15 inch 2016. I actually really like Apple. I have issues with certain things they do. I think they kind of lost there way for a while after the iPhone 5(s) and definitely after the last tower Mac Pro.

I have been saving for a bit but now that I have the money I'm not sure what I actually want to upgrade. I thought about upgrading my rig but these are my specs:
i5-4690K (Definitely not upgrading until Kabylake at least if not Skylake-E) Asus GTX 1070 Strix (I love running older games without the fans even spinning) 16 GBs of decently fast DDR3 (I already have 32 GBs of DDR4 that I have in a different rig that I will use when I finally upgrade my CPU and Mobo) 256 GB Samsung 950 Pro, 500 GB SATA SSD, 4TB Seagate Hybrid drive So really my rig doesn't need any upgrades. My peripheral might need a little tuning. I have a nice Cherry MX Brown board but my mouse is a little glitchy. It's a Mionix Maos 7000 (or something like that). It's good but it feels like every once in a while it misses. My monitor is what I'm really looking at upgrading. It's a 1440p 60Hz monitor by Acer (not sure what kind of panel, it's not good). It does it's job but I have definitely noticed screen tearing and it's colors a little inaccurate. I'd love a G-sync monitor with good color accuracy for photo/video work. The problem with buying a monitor right now that I see is that OLED & HDR monitors are just around the corner and that is going to be amazing! So even if I got one of those amazing 21:9, curved, IPS, G-sync displays that cost like $1000 it would be money ill-spent.

The thing I originally was saving up for was a VR headset. That dream has died a little bit but I recently demoed a VR headset again and I loved it. I have demoed them before and each time I love it. I really want to play stuff like Serious Sam VR, Eve: Gunship, Eve: Valkyrie, and plenty more.

So to narrow it down, which of these should I do/get?:
Buy an HTC Vive Buy an Oculus Rift Buy an uber expensive monitor Buy a decent monitor and upgrade a few things like my mouse and CPU cooler Build a Backup NAS because I currently have little to no way to backup my computer Buy a nicer camera upgrade my console collection (I may be a PC gamer but consoles are fun and have awesome exclusives) Basically there is nothing worth buying right now so I shouldn't do anything with it and just wait.

The Xbox One S is another option if you're willing to tolerate a console in your home theater. Contrary to what Linus said in the WAN show, it actually has HDMI 2.0a.

Johnmakuta got a reaction from QuantumBlink in When is Xbox Scorpio coming out?
I know that it says holiday 2017 but does that mean in the next 5 months or 17 months? I am debating between buying an Xbox or a new graphics card for my PC. I am only thinking of getting Xbox (already have a PS4) because I want to play halo 5 and Scalebound plus a few of the new games they announced. I think I'll get a new graphics card anyway but I'd really like to know when Scorpio is coming out.

Johnmakuta reacted to LordMastodon in GTX 770 SLI? Or just get a GTX 1070?
I really don't think you're going to get dual 770s to run Witcher 3 ultra settings at 1440p. That's really a job for a 1080 or a 1070. Dual 770s might be able to accomplish Witcher 3 at medium settings at 1080p, and that's being slightly generous.

Johnmakuta reacted to LordMastodon in GTX 770 SLI? Or just get a GTX 1070?
That I know that Witcher 3 is a very intensive game, and 770s are kind of old. Maybe they will be able to play Witcher 3 at ultra settings on 1080p, or even 1440p, but I just doubt it.

Johnmakuta reacted to Darkseth in HTC 10 vs Galaxy S7
    Pro HTC 10:
    - better External speakers (not THE best on the whole market, but a very good compromise between front firing + display/body ratio)
    - Very good Audioquality and Output power over headphone jack (only if you have hi fi headphones)
    - quite "near stock" UI.
    - Full metal body
    - Front camera has  Optical Image stabilisation too.
    - Apple Airplay !!!

    Con HTC 10:
    - old emmc 5.0 (or 5.1) storage chips. That means, Despite having USB type C in 3.0 interface, the data transmission rate is quite slow. The USB Type C interface could be faster, but the slow emmc 5.0 storage is the Bottleneck, when moving files from your computer to the Phone.
    - despite th UI beeing quite "stock", it consumes more gb than Samsun's Touchwiz (saw a post, where they compared free available space from both. S7 had like 1gb more space free. Both 32gb models)
    - Camera, despite beeing VERY good according to HTCs last 3 years, it still falls slightly short behind the s7.
    - HTC still uses quite high prices, even tho they shouldn't when they struggle that much. In Germany here, the HTC 10 costs 660€, while the S7 (which many reviewers consider a Tad better overall package) is only at 560€~. That's a huge Bonus for the already good S7.

    Pro S7:
    - Better screen (Amoled "can"! be more power efficient, depending on brightness, and theme). Atm THE best screen on the market. Also regarding maximum brightness, Gamma/Greyscale/etc calibration, Color accuracy (at least in Basic/Photo mode, not in "adaptive mode")
    - IP68
    - Wireless charge
    - MUCH faster UFS 2.0 storage. On small 4k Files, it can read up to 80-110 mb/s. emmc 5.0 storage reads at like 10-25 mb/s here.
    - Better Camera. Or better say, camera with almost no compromises. Sensor, Autofocus, Aperture, Low Light performance, post image processing (a little bit too sharp, but still very good) are on a very high level, making this baby the Kind of smartphone cameras right now.
(- Depending on your Region (outside of China and USA), the s7 runs with a Exynos 8890, instead Snapdragon 820. The Exynos is more Power efficient at a similar Performance. The Device "can" last up to 10-30% longer per Charge. Which is a Huge difference. The Exynos S7 mostly gets like 1-2 hours more Screen on time, than the Snapdragon 820 S7. Look into some tests, both variants have been tested, for example from Arstechnica

    Con S7:
    - "only" micro-USB 2.0.
    - Officially only supports Miracast. No MHL, no DLNA (but users report it still can work, as long you're in the same WLAN. Idk, i dont use it)
    - Touchwiz might be preference tho.. I like the new version, and wouldn't trade it against a stock android rom. Maybe in 1-2 years.
    - No UKW Radio
    - No Infrared port.

I got the S7 Edge on release, and was thinking if i should've waited for the HTC 10 (i was a HTC One M8 user for the past 2 years). Now that it's out.. i don't regret anything.
The Exynos SoC is really awesome in performance, and Power efficiency.
Right now, i have 4 Hours and 11 Minutes screen-on-time, over a Timespan of exactly 49 Hours (2 days and 1 hour).
I still have 24% Battery Left (S7 Edge, 3600 mAh, Exynos).

    Hope that pro/con list helps

@ Wifrlare: I was a One M8 user too^^ And in my opinion, my Upgrade to the s7 edge was absolutely worth it. While i got my M8 to stutter / Lag like CRAZY by just updating a few Apps from Play store, i have a really hard time getting my s7 Edge to slow down. No matter what i do. Updating a bunch of Apps in the background, switching between Apps while doing so, maybe back into a Game... No stutters really (maybe a few more framedrops than usual) but honestly.. that thing FLIES.
4gb ram, UFS 2.0 storage, and the Much faster CPU / GPU are a Beast of a combination.
If you have any specific Questions recarding your M8 --> S7 (since you would be moving from Sense to Touchwiz), i can also provice you some first hand experiences there

Johnmakuta reacted to Monte_Carlo in Can anything be done about a gone bad DS cartridge?
Dunno about your neck of the woods, but "Power Saves" is a brand name of sorts of 3DS/DS cart readers.  Basically a USB adapter you hook up to your computer.  You can fiddle with saves, and more importantly, back your game up.  The fact they haven't been sued into the stone age by Nintendo makes them sort of legit I guess?  Moral issues aside, should serve your needs for back up, and restoration of game data.  Pretty sure it won't fix a corrupted cartridge.

One big issue here is that there is zero guarantee the reader would be able to pull any data of the cart, and you'd still be out a copy of the game since it doesn't copy the game, just save files.

Johnmakuta reacted to Technous285 in Pokemon Transferring? (GB, GBA, GBC, DS, 3DS)
Gen 1 can transfer to Gen 2 no problems, but even though the GBA can play the older Gen 1/2 carts there was no capability coded in to transfer Pokemon from Gen 1/2 to Gen 3, and considering there was the Gen 1 remakes in the form of FireRed/LeafGreen the lack of a way to move Pokemon from Gen 1 to Gen 3 (via Gen 2) became rather non-existent.

As for the digital re-released of Gen 1 on the 3DS family, they can move Pokemon to Gen 5/6 via Pokemon Bank as (basically) a side effect of being able to use the Bank to move Pokemon from Gen 5 to Gen 6 (or between Gen 6 carts and Gen 6 digital distros).
So using FireRed/LeafGreen with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and HeartGold/SoulSilver with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, you can get the effect of having Gen 1 & Gen 2 Pokemon in Gens 3-6 (via link cables in Gen 3, DS/Lite's GBA port between Gen 3 & 4, & Ad-Hoc WiFi for Gen 4-onwards) even though the original Pokemon from the original games can't directly be moved on up due to older coding/hardware issues. There's even special acknowledgements in OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire if you've managed to import any Pokemon from the original Gen 3 carts into the new Gen 6 carts.
