gylmir got a reaction from KnightWumar in BIG all wood case (?)
all the posts above are from people with no experience of this.
i got my own wooden pc case i did lan with it and temps of components stressed or gaming and get around 60 to 70° celcius.

    1. fire hazard, the biggest crap they all tell you sure wood catch fire and burns easy if you get the wood heated up above 100°c and i think your pc will be already shutting down if it will be getting that high.
    2. don't matter what wood you take just be sure to take around 8mm if you don't use wheels to move it otherwise it will get heavy trust me my first mistake was 12mm mdf.
    3. you get way more space in the case than any other case you would buy, you have your own positions for the components special made etc.
    4. draw on paper what your case should look like in different ways + mods, draw them also in a 3d program like sketchup free and easy.
    5. take very good measurements because once its cut it nasty to reattach take your time average building time of a case will take u for more than 24 hours of pure work.
    6. if your case is 60cm in height, 50cm depth and 20 cm width you can fit an standard atx mobo 1 to 7 HDD (not ssd is more) 2 double 120 or 140mm rads and 2 triple rads and still have enough room for push pull config with 2 tanks and 2 pumps.
    7. if you want a plexi window get a sturdy one around 5 mm or more is great to handle be careful not to scratch it.

if you need more tips i will answer your questions.

    Hey guys!

I'm fairly new at this whole 'asking questions no forums' thing as I generally find them sufficient for general troubleshooting and problem solving.

HOWEVER, I've been intending to start a new project for my mATX rig that includes moving it over to an ammo crate. I'm far from an expert on electronics and so I find myself in need of answers that are specific to my case that haven't been covered (as far as I can see) in other topics.

    The Lowdown:

I'll include an image of the crate below so you can see, but the basic gist of my questions are about any problems I may encounter when building.

The crate is wooden, but has a metal box on the interior (which is removable). I was intending on building in the metal box so that it would make for easy cleaning of the crate if necessary.

I haven't really the first clue about things like whether it'll be safe from ESD, whether it'll be grounded, whether it will be shielded sufficiently to stop any 'noise' etc. All I'd like to know is whether it'll be safe for me to put my components in without killing them off.

If anyone is able to help out, I would be very grateful

BTW, my PC specs (if anyone is interested):

    Case - BitFenix Raider
    CPU - Intel i7 3770K
Graphics Card - Asus DCUII GeForce GTX660Ti 3GB
Motherboard - Asus ROG Maximus V Gene
    Storage - 250GB Samsung 840 EVO & 4TB Western Digital Green
    PSU - 850W NZXT Hale82

Eh, if there was a bigger Mobo it'd make the cables less noticeable, and if you re-route the 24pin through the cable management gromet to the left it'd look tidier. Though, I'd still say a pretty good 7/10. The 8/4 pin should also be routed behind the motherboard tray, not infront of it.

gylmir reacted to zlolslavez in Is it worth getting a DVD Drive?
Getting a disk drive is pretty much gambling whether your motherboard will have ethernet capability without a driver or not. if it doesn't, then you better download them USB or you can't use it without it. (as Ethernet drivers usually on a disk), however, the computer will typically read a usb drive without drivers, so you could probably get away without getting one, however I personally own one even though I rarely use it as its nice to have for the occasional disk that may fly by. If you already own a computer you could steal the disk drive from that, but there's no real reason to buy one in your use case.

    Hello all

Following will be a wall of text, so sorry about that. I will ad a TL;DR at the end, for those who will read, thanks and enjoy

I've always wanted to have a beast PC, ever since I bought my first gaming PC 2 years back. (I've been PC gaming from way before that but on crappy things. and yes, I bought a pre-built PC which I am still regretting ever since )

I recently upgraded my already good PC and I think I have quite the specs atm (see signature for details) but I want more than specs now. I've been more into the looks of my PC than the actual specs lately. I already spent a butt load of money on specially sleeved cables, matching fans, matching LED's, matching case, etc.. but I want more. Something other people don't have.

That's why I started Googling "PC mods" and came across these desks that have a PC inside them. Not the ones with a glass top and a full water loop under them. (I am planning on getting water loops but not any time soon as I have plans abroad) But a desk mod like this PIC. (Just the idea, I think this mod looks very "meh" and I want to aim for something 1000x better)

So why am I posting this here? I already drew something (very basic, my drawing skills are over 9000) in Photoshop and I'd like to have your opinions/thoughts/suggestions/etc. Pics and further explanation below:

Front view: Left side is just a little cabinet to put shit in. The center will be a double compartment where my cables from monitors go. The right side will be where my PC is and another small cabinet where I put my games and PS4 in. (Those 4 holes will be in/out fans, not sure yet how to regulate airflow)

Top view: (That spaghetti is supposed to be my cables ) On the right is a window where I'll be able to see my PC. (Just like the side window of a tower.)

PC side top view: I probably will put my mobo this way. (I will cut out the mobo tray/hdd tray and other mounting systems from an existing tower and place those into the desk. That way I don't have any issues screwing in all the things.)

Other than this I don't have anything more to offer yet. I've been working on this idea for just a few days but thought I'd ask for opinions/help here very soon in the process.

The name, because every epic PC mod should have a name, "Project Prometheus" ! It's somewhat futuristic sounding and rolls nice. (I did a quick Google search and I don't think there are any other PC mods out there with this name. Correct me if I'm wrong)

If you have opinions/ideas/suggestions/etc for my mod, please comment on this thread. They are much appreciated!
I also have no idea yet where I'm gonna put my PSU/HDD/SSD. I figured I'd hide PSU/HDD and proudly show my SSD.

TL;DR: I'm gonna put my PC into a custom made desk, please help.

So I assume something like this, I would say if you never tried anything like this before to not try it since it can get quite complicated, but if your ambitious and want to learn manufacturing and design it's a very involving process.

making your own anti-vibration add-ons for fans, drives, etc with rubber cut to size. The GPU mod on that video works as well
finally, try controlling your fans, don't just plug them straight and have them at full tilt.

Well, the first thing I would do is isolate whats creating each and every sound....so first, i'd disconnect everything thats not critical for the computer to boot up -- so I would disconnect all fans (including the cpu fan -- although do keep an eye on temps while doing this part), the GPU, and the HDD.
    Sources of noise:
Do you have a window? Is the window loose?
PSU, GPU, AIO pump (if you have an AIO), and case fans.
