  1. Okay I think I might go with that then, i'll look at benchmarks and decide. Thanks for the help
  2. For everything? Do you think that the core count could be a problem in future?
  3. Okay so basically I am looking to upgrade my PC and get a whole new motherboard, case and 32gb ram and get a new graphics card later this year (probably a 1080ti depending on when i decide) and a new CPU. So looking around I am kind of stuck between an i7 7700k and a ryzen 1700x. The i7 seems to have the better gaming performance but i'm not sure how long i would be able to keep either of the processors before upgrading. I'm just looking for other opinions on this. If it's important I would use the computer for a lot of gaming but some productivity and workstation work but not anything especially intensive.
  4. Ok I was just wondering whether the extra cost for 1440p monitors is worth it I have a gtx 970 so 1080p is probably best for surround until i upgrade but does the extra resolution honestly justify the extra cash. Is it worth getting the 1440p monitors and playing games in 1080 and dealing with the artifacting is it really as bad as everyone says? I'm not really looking for more than 60hz tbh I don't much care for high refresh rates (maybe because I've never used more than 60) also can you reccomend budget monitors of either 1440p or 1080p
  5. is that what linus used in the silent pc build?
  6. Okay so I really need a new pc case. I have been looking for a while and would like some opinions on what the best case with very little sound (My pc is on my desk to show it off this means it's only 50cm or so away from me) while also having a very visually appealing design ( I would REALLY like a tempered glass side panel) my motherboard is atx and i would like space to support watercooling if i decide to go that way in the future Also (if this wasn't hard enough already) I don't really want to completely break the bank on this as I am thinking about upgrading the guts of my machine too feel free to give suggestions on fans and other cooling solutions that fit this if you wanna
  7. I'm not really sure if this is the best subfourm to post this but a friend of mine is having some problems with his laptop. He has recently changed his Microsoft password and thought nothing of it but then the next time he turned on his laptop instead of asking for his usual pin to unlock his pc, it instead asked for a password. This should be his microsoft password however, when he tried to type it in, it told him it was incorrect and the old microsoft account password doesn't work either. I had a look and the problem seems to be that the laptop itself is not connected to the internet and on the icon has an x next to to ethernet symbol. I tried to connect to my wifi but it told me it couldn't connect but if you go into the list of networks it says connected but the icon still has the x and a ethernet symbol instead of a wifi symbol. What can I do about this? I have already been to microsoft technical support but they couldn't solve it so I decided to post it on the more technically-minded linus tech tips forums
  8. Try restarting if you haven't already, I had a problem similar to this and it basically solved itself after some time. It can't hurt to defragment the drive and clean it out with ccleaner. Run sfc /scannow as well. If all else fails there's an option in update and recovery in settings to re install your pc but keep all you files.
  9. Make sure the cables properly connected at both ends (Sounds basic I know) Check nvidia control panel and windows display settings (right click on desktop and see if anything comes up) try another cable and monitor.
  10. If u want to stop it for whatever reason then turn on v sync if you haven't already
  11. I would go for ultrawide but if you do 1440p or it's not really worth it in my opinion. Btw even if you don't have the horsepower for 4k you can run games windowed 1080 or 1440 if you want to. I do every now and then on especially demanding games it's not as bad as it sounds it helps with eye strain if you get that as well
  12. Normally I just use windows defender but this time round I went for kaspersky basically because of how cheap it is and it has a gaming mode that prevents scans and the like from happening while your gaming which is pretty cool but to be honest with you any free, well known anti virus should be fine
  13. Okay so basically for christmas I got loads of gear to light up my setup. I have the razer chroma keyboard and mouse and an nzxt hue as well as red led fans. I would like some ideas for a theme of my setup (The Joker, New York etc.) bearing in mind there needs to be red in the theme because my fans are only red.
  14. Oh and when the games crash they somethines kill windows
  15. Hi, I have been having problems with my games randomly crashing. It has been going on since I first installed windows 10. I have turned off OSD for RivaTuner because that apparently can cause problems but other than that I'm completely stuck. Any help is appriciated!
