  1. Anyone else out there have any suggestions? Still open to anything.
  2. I like the look of both of these. Price is up in the air really, when I talk to the others I'll definitely suggest these two. Thanks for the suggestions!
  3. Yes, I suppose. It probably would be wise to avoid it so the lady in charge of our tech department doesn't throw too much of a fit about a used machine hooking up to their most open school network.
  4. Hey all, It's my senior year at my highschool and I was thinking about a senior gift to go to our choir director. I am considering suggesting we get him a laptop. Right now he using a junky old HP machine running an AMD Athlon II P340 at 2.20 Ghz and 2 GB of RAM. Its SOOOO slow, taking up to 45 seconds to catch up after doing something as simple as pressing the Windows key. We've reloaded it before, and its checked for viruses. Its just old, ready to be thrown out. I'm not sure what exactly to get him, we're highschool students preparing for college so our pockets arent too deep. I was hoping to find something in the $300- $400 price range. Cheaper is better! However, I don't know what exactly to get. Hes a choir director, so most of his activities include surfing the web, streaming videos and music, document creating, editing, and sharing. And he uses a program called Freestyle to transpose and compose music. I don't think that it'll take much to run anything like that... Also: Windows machines only please - our school supplies Chromebooks to all their employees but he prefers using his Windows machine even with its horrific slowness. Hope to get lots of suggestions, thanks guys! - Drak
  5. I do use MSI Afterburner, and I've tried doing that before and the fan still doesn't spin without me going down and spinning it.
  6. Hey guys, So around Black Friday/Cyber Monday time I bought a Sapphire R9 390x Tri-x graphics card from Newegg. The card runs great, for the most part. About a month (maybe two? I don't even remember anymore) ago, I've started having this issue where sometimes if my computer has been off for more than 4-6 hours, sometimes when I boot it up the third fan closest to the IO plate just doesn't spin, but twitches a bit. As if it's trying to spin, but is being blocked by something. And if I physically go down and spin it myself, then it spins fine til I shut my computer off again. Then sometimes the fan spins perfectly fine. I've tried cleaning out any and all dust built up in the cooler and fans, I've made sure that its getting enough power, and I've even checked my BIOS options for my card. I'm completely at a loss on what to do at this point and I'm starting to look toward either trying to RMA this card, or just get a completely new and different card. Anyways, Thanks as always, Drak
  7. Green like the best color of eyes B) Good luck everyone, and thanks DaltonM!
  8. I use Norton and I love it. With a plan that covers all of my devices, it does what it needs to do.
  9. Something like the Azio MGK1 RGB keyboard may suit you well, however I have sometimes seen Corsair's K70 RGB Keyboard go for around 100 dollars out there on the internet, so I'd definitely look into that. It doesn't get much better than a K70 imo
  10. Yeah literally the whole Skylake bending thing is no big deal... It's people being sloppy with their coolers. You can play it safe though, if you're worried of doing that, and get a different kind of cooler than the ones related to the reports.
  11. What model of 390x are you using?
  12. It doesn't sound like a bad graphics card to me... more like a messed up TV. Try plugging in the TV into something else and using it, see if the lines reappear. If not, you can try connecting the TV in a different way.
  13. Your options aren't very wide with the big ol' CHEAP sign hanging over your head... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W95RR32/?tag=pcpapi-20 Here, this LG monitor is 24" 1080p at 60hz 2ms response time. It comes in at about 135 bucks.
  14. Wouldn't happen to have any idea on how I'd watch the temps of my router, would ya?
  15. I recommend something like MSI Afterburner to watch your gpu in depth.. but if you're looking for something rather simplistic, the NZXT CAM software is a great tool and I use it pretty much 24/7. Another fantastic program is CPUID's HWMonitor - that'll tell you everything you'd ever need to know thats going on inside your computer temp and performance wise... Good luck man, hope the new rig suits you well.
  16. Keep in mind when cooling that heat rises, what I would do is leave your 80mm as exhaust under your PSU there, and get some kind of intake fan in the front there (assuming thats where you'd place your two 120mm fans). Any other fans on the side or bottom of the case should be intake and on top that's entirely up to you whether you want it intake or exhaust. In your situation I'd probably do exhaust on top since you only have an 80mm in the back. Whichever best fits your set up man, just remember intake through front, exhaust through the back. EDIT: Jk i see where you put your 120mm fans, oops... see if you can move those fans to the front, or if you can get fans for the front. If thats not possible, keep the fans on the side as intake and the 80mm in the back as exhaust.
  17. I'd go with the NZXT cooler, however you don't need to do a push/pull configuration.
  18. Still... use it to hold his porn or something x'D
  19. I'd steal the hard drive out of it and donate the tower to a computer graveyard or something lol
  20. I did reboot after that first test with the .46Mbps down... and I've never gotten full 20Mbps down and 5 up as we do connected wired, but I figured that was just due to wifi being wifi. Its gotten increasingly worse over the past 2 - 3 weeks, and nothing has been changed in our networking setup recently. Nothing electronic has been placed near the router, either. However I have been angling the antenna's differently to see if there's any performance difference but no matter how I angle them the results come back the same. The two antenna's are currently both upright.
  21. Hey guys, So lately I've been noticing some huge internet issues with my computer and phone. Our current plan has us with 20Mbps down and 5Mbps up, which whenever connected LAN we have no problems getting. But lately, my computer is struggling to get a quarter of that speed. Todays test even resulting as slow as .46Mpbs down and 1.89Mbps up. I thought it could've been an issue with my wireless adapter, but just to be sure I restarted my router and tested again. 2.35Mbps down, 4.06Mbps up. This computer is being used on the second floor of our house, on the complete opposite side of the building with 3/5 bars on the Netgear Genie software, and 2/3 bars on the Windows bar. I am using a Netgear N900 WNDA4100 Wireless USB Adapter. Like I said, I thought it could be an issue with my wireless adapter, so I tested using some other wireless devices such as 2 Samsung Chromebooks, an HP Laptop, and a Lenovo Laptop, all connecting to the same server and all located in the same place (on my desk next to my computer). All posted similar results for down and up speeds. At this point I was beginning to think it's a range issue, so I moved the laptops to my sisters room, which is located literally right above the router. In this position all devices received full connectivity. I tested using those laptops, and my sisters computer which connects via a Netgear WN111v2 USB Adapter. All connected to the same server as before, all the same spot. All the same results. Still around 2 - 3Mbps down and 3 - 4Mbps up. I'm at a loss here, I'm pretty sure its my router but if it is I have no idea how to fix it or what I need to get to fix it or anything. It's probably worth mentioning as well that it's not like we have brick or cement walls between us and the router, just wood, drywall, and fiber glass insulation (I would know, family and I replaced it with that -.-) and giving our home internet is a Qwest ZyXEL Q1000z modem/router. Aaaand we go through CenturyLink. If you guys need anymore information, I'm happy to provide it. And as always thanks for the help.
  22. http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-SSDNow-SV300S37A-120G/dp/B00A1ZTZOG/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449022748&sr=1-3&keywords=ssd Here's a decent SSD for under 50 bucks, I'm not sure how much it'd be to ship to you though.
  23. OH OKAY. I figured it had to be something like that. Wasn't going to spam my way there lol... Soon enough I'll be a cool cat like you guys
