  1. That is actually really helpful. So perhaps a second pc with a capture card, with a bigger HDD like you mention with 16tb and windows share will do the best for me? Running a game server in windows is not a big deal to set up and rendering will be a matter of transferring the file from one pc to the other, actually with the capture card I might not even need that. Home automation I've read that can run on Windows too, but no idea of something like IFTTT to run in win. Does this sound bad?
  2. I think the one on the old one is Seagate 1Tb and I have a WD 2TB 5200rpm Issue is that 16 or 18tb are usually low speed or really expensive, I actually have an Octane card but never figured how to use it properly, and sits here in the desk since it causes so much trouble and is discontinued, so perhaps I will sell it. The things that you mention are good, but depends on the cost and isn't the freeNAS with same capabilities? Edit. Should I save to buy a Synology, or just try to build my own with my parts? I lack the drives anyway.
  3. Do they need to be same hdd? or that is just ideal conditions? I was really thinking of going FreeNAS since I think it supports all my purposes (?) but does the ZFS work in a similar way as RAID? Only me, for now. But I might want to access it from different locations, and I reached almost my max that I can in my pc, anything more will be overflow that's why starting the NAS sooner than when it's way too complicated. Videos of color correction, ending in YT mostly. UNRAID? I've heard is subscription and certain actions will not be suitable. Btw I do not need the case or cpu psu of my old one, the drive is actually full, but I could empty it, and get 1 drive for having 2 disks.
  4. Well as the name says I am planning to build a NAS, I have some idea but never dealt with one. PURPOSE -Storage Unit -Media Encoder Encoding/Rendering Pass through/Record Capture NAS? -Game Server -Home automation 1 - I heard of someone that, when you need more than 4 HDD you should get a NAS, well I'm running 3HDD+2SSD+1NVME and well sata ports are not an issue since I have an old x99 around (with 12 sata) that I plan to use as NAS but, the case itself or psu won't have even half the cables for them. 2 - Well here is a nice extra, I do edit and will be lovely that I can render videos, images and other material on the NAS. I do NOT run premiere, neither I plan to, so I have no idea if I can run things in a NAS or how to. DavResolve, Ilustrator and InDesign or others will be nice to have. *Ideally, I will stick a capture card on that pc and use it as a stream pc while being a NAS. Is this even possible? 3 - As the title says 4 - I'm starting to automate things in my house in a 'hardware' fashion since 5 years ago, but running a IFTTT or a Home Assistant in my own control, that would be 10/10 OS I have heard and follow some of Linus videos but, tbh it's never clear to me a real use. They had Synology, and they showed the Storage capabilities, they build a media transcode server, and it transcodes, even they got a super minecraft server that well, runs minecraft. Linus server does it all, but is shown by a glance or totally censored, which I understand. *I also understand that a NAS has more uses at the same time, and many programs or apps to use, but it's a little unclear how to press 'on' and have all that on your control. (Without just run a VM or have a second PC) FreeNas Xpenology Proxnox PARTS I have some spare parts from my old pc that ideally will fit this project, but someone with more expertise will tell if It's to overkill. x99 sabertooth 16gb ram dd4 980ti BUDGET Actually 0, maximum 200? Mainly for more HDD. *I can't afford to get over RAID 0 or RAID 1, (if I'm correct RAID 0 means every mb is not lost in a hdd but in a failure you lose everything, and RAID 1 is on the same drive so a failure in certain area or in that drive will make you lose all data too), in my dreams I would go RAID 3 or 5 and be way more than happy with 20tb. But in real world, 5tb in RAID 0 or 1 will be more than happy for me. Any help will be amazing :)
  5. Is it great (the IPS)? im really thinking of the 8Q since its almost equal just TN well about the black screen glow .. movies, works with black colours could just be annoying speaking of lightboost I've read its about motion blur related to the screen not related with the gpu Im thinking too of the rog but I want to hear more comments not just supporting a 800-900 bucks screen
  6. OKAY forgot that too .. but I can hold mostly everything at this point
  7. Sorry it posted before I could finish, 3 times enter I updated now with price and resolution too
  8. Hello, well Im in a quest of serching a new monitor for myself and I've really got in some deep questions that would carry me for a quite some time. I know around here we have some humongous experts, so I decided that would be a inteligent move to ask here a few questions and make my decision way less painful. Thank you So.. here are some of the spects I think I'll be happy to find. I found myself to love some of the actual modes of Asus monitors since it makes the switch to games/movies/night/read way too easy, to mention that would be cool to manage them to change them as I wish. I might want to get rid of 60hz and start the new world with 120hz or more? From here I get a few questions .. It is good for eyes more Hz? I've read lightboost is a thing, dont know really much about, should I seach also that?/worth?/hurt eyes? Lightboos+Hz or more Hz and no lightboost? G-sync with lightboost with Hz? #Please if its with G-Sync would be better, right? I'm sick of more than a few games that the v-sync is bs and disable that its a huge stinky bs G-sync yes/no? worth? worth for amount of use? quality of use? To get more in a point .. I dont give a donut to curve or nasa monitors or even 99 hundred inches tvhdq4khd monitor/tv since I will not make profit of the money/use or even use a feature at all My actual monitor is matt, I kind hate that since I see the plastic or the texture of that in front of the screen; all my previous monitors were gloss ones (in laptops) My actual monitor Asus VE228H (no idea what size atm I think its the 21 or 23 inches, might be the 21) Last but not less important, IPS, TN, or was it SAS or VA? I've seen someone said that .. TN monitors TN its cheaper better response time bad viewing angles and not perfect colour accuracy IPS monitors better colour accuracy good viewing angles expensive less response time and that glows SAS or VA dont remember the name atm sorry contrast ratio was good vibrant colours but not acurracy colours I dont move that much since a monitor its meant to be in your face and dont move, so I dont really know I do care of response time in both ways response time for the monitor to show and the time takes to pop somthing from the graphics, Linus or Luke explained at some point, but I can pretty feel those I do work on graphics and colour accuracy would be apreciated a bunch. Somewere in a post they explained that light in panels of any kind its not good for the eyes since it makes the eye force to look at a light, not sure thats what is it, but I've seen photos of some glows in IPS panels and hell god what is that, looks like a cheap rusian (no ofense) factory made those with a WWI machine and retailed like a twenty century monitor. I have no idea of VA or SAS panels, might had one of those in my old laptop but its a bit tricky to say, I had an Acer 1500 somthing and I've read those had 2 diferent panels depending where were manufactured, the Samsung ones (those VA or SAS ones I think, if they had that tecnology in that time) and Asus ones? ( no hell idea now, that was a research about 2-5 years ago when I found that info) For ultra wide or just normal ones with more inches.. I'm not really interested in 4k gaming or working, first and last becouse there is so little content, 20 series around the world filmed in 4k? 20 games that can run 4k? and maybe the best is youtube with huge quantity of 4k videos but that are 60hz .. give me a good reason if you recomend me a 4k one! Ultrawide ones are amazing in my opinion, I got the chance of try one long ago and that was a moment to remember, its like having 2 monitors but with less annoying things and way cooler to make work since you are already looking at everything you have or need to work, but few problems to notice .. Games mostly dont support that, movies are great but I dont get a wide monster to view movies (mainly I mean), work is amazing but Im used to fullscreen when working for make my mouse stay inside the program (in some programs) and also wide monsters get 120hz lightboost and ips? im not sure even that, games for a widescreen its like returning to 4k, but a bit closer somehow. Price, size, resolution.. Less than 1k would be good, and if it can fit closer to 500 would be even better ( I know I ask for a lot so there is a lot of space from 500 to 1k) Size, please not a tv in a 1m3 room almost, from anything of my actual screen (21inches I think) to idk I've seen 27 inches and I would be fine ( I need to messure that just in case) Resolution, I heard too many bad coments of the windows scaling thingy (I dont really care of them, just make sure I can still read text), but Im fine with 1440x2560 or even 1080x1920(what I use atm) and somehow tells me that with 2160x3840 I will be still fine? (sweet spot would be 1440 or 1080 imo) (ultrawide I think sweet spot would be 1080x2560, doesnt matter I can hold 1440x3440 but thats too big maybe?) Specs I have asus x99 somthing intel i7 5980? 16 gb ram asus 980ti Well I think I've posted all the info, and everything matters so far or I have knowledge for now.. And here some of the models I've looking so far (I will update those) ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q (IPS, G-sync, '1ms',DP,.. its in my mind and gives imo a lot of what I ask and could be a good predecesor of my monitor) Asus PG278Q (same as the above but TN? TN matters that much? IPS vs TN fight since ms, colours and price make this a huge pick that is questionable) BenQ XL2430T (I think due to 120hz?) ASUS ROG PG278Q (found that in lightboost forums, no idea) Benq XL2420G (found in lightboost forums, no idea) Acer Predator GN246HLB (found in lightboost forums, no idea) (predator one, was in my mind a lot of time but price strikes back) ASUS VS248H (found as gaming budged monitor) Acer Predator XB321HK (too expensive, not too deep investigated) DELL U3415W (cool but ultrawide stuff) LG 34UM95C-P ( I think Linus speaked of this one as the 'little brother' of the big ultrawide I refer to that one and was in my mind a lot of the time but ultrawide stuff) Dell UltraSharp U2715H (found somewhere as a work monitor)

  14. Hello!, I actually not sure what to fill this post with, but the mainly question I would like to ask is 'which and where to find the asus bottle that he usually uses'. If im not wrong this bottle is a present directly from asus for those sponsored figures or to good customers/sellers that adquiry certain amount of sells of their products, so I'll guess its kind strange to find. Since its just a aluminum bottle I think it will be kind of easy but I can't really find a specific place where to buy it. Help will be really apreciated.
