ObiWanMonk's Achievements

  1. Once i can mount the drive, all is fine and ic an access data but it takes being forced to have a drive letter for it to show up. Drive is part of a drive pool array fortunately and everything is stored in files so if it comes to it and i need to wipe the drive i can at least offload it to other drives but benefit of that is all the data is in files. its something linked to the labeling of the drives so that OS can see them. i could be compeltely wrong but i need somebody to say to me it could be this or this is how you do it to fix it. worth a shot! just dont want to have to move data around if i dont have to.
  2. Evening all, In need of some serious help. This evening has entailed a lot of recalibration of my plex server. Somehow.. don't ask how, 2 drives do not want to show themselves on boot without a third party program to nudge them into action. nothing mechanical related however I suspect some how the partition orders are not right as it appears that the drive does not assign a drive letter. manage to do so and it work fine... until I reboot when it goes back to normal. Ive been doing this via Mini Tool Partition wizard pro and it seems to work. My thinking is that the wrong path is linked atm toward my 2 drives some how or the Boot record is messed up. could anybody help get me out as I'm lost... Oh it says the drives are empty... most certainly not empty and defo there!
  3. Kinda thinking it might be time to move my workstation over to windows Server 2016! Do i actually lose anything by going over from Win10 Pro or is it just gains and stability?? What i did wonder was my options as far as raid goes as i have a complete hotch potch of drives. 2x 8TB, 2x 6TB, 2x 4TB, 2x 2TB. I did wonder if i am better having my drives mirrored to the same size drives and then pool those mirrors and integrate a NVMe SSD Cache for write cache. Only get half storage but got redundancy across everything. Any thoughts folks?? Is the general thoughts that Storage Spaces DIrect is the way to go for if i defect to Server 2016? if not use drive pool??
  4. Ok thats amazing! The problem i have above all is this is going to be done on my main rig which is a do everything system, windows server i dont think is really the best option, i did read however you can still do everything you need via windows 10 pro & powershell to get it up and running in the same way but is the GUI the only thing that missing? I did look into DrivePool and SnapRAID a bit more. certainly an option but the idea that windows storage spaces actually does everything is the thing that is most intriguing. Is it possible for NVMe SSD's to be used as Cache Drives for the main pool??
  5. Sadly im stuck on windows as i need the pne system that does everything. its only as a file server, Plex, SABNZB, Sonarr and then just some light gaming which never effects performance really anyway as it wont be linekd to the pool. Can you run snap raid on windows?! (sorry if a stupid question)
  6. Nope defo not acceptable! need something that gives at least native speeds. I hear DrivePool is very good as well and very customiseable?
  7. I had a similar problem on my 5930K with 64gb Ram and a 980TI. Turned out that by fitting a 10GBe network card (i know not for everybody) it managed to sort itself out and haven't heard it quibble since. its just getting it setup. Oh and make sure that Plex is running from an SSD or NVMe. Will see rest of the system relax having no bottlenecks!
  8. Ok i will start off by explaining the situation, Im a serious media junky/photographer/Videographer who keeps all his raws on Archive and want to add a layer of protection in instead of just using cold storage. I have a Large scale Plex library that i need Parity to give some fail over safety. Not got matching drives so rules Raid out in the normal sense. Currently running around 14TB of Media from 2x 8TB WD Golds with 44TB potentially available. Looked into FlexRaid, ZFS, UnRaid, Raid 1-5 as an option but haven't been able to settle on a hard decision. Windows Storage spaces certainly looks interesting, Next to no press coverage about it, Appears to have ability to add SSD's as a write cache and read speeds i would imagine would be absolutely fine as far as Plex goes on the network but not sure. I Cant justify a full custom server atm so need to make do with hot swap bays and my Lian Li Cube with Icydock hotswap drives (4x http://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=157) and a 6x bay 2.5" enclosure (http://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=151) If anybody has any good ideas as far as what would be best to maximise performance given my situation. For not my Drives are as follows: 2x 8TB WD Gold Enterprise 2x 6TB Seagate Enterprise 2x 4TB WD SE 2x 4TB WD Green 5x 2TB WD Green (currently in a drobo but can be transferred and made usable) Totally open to any advice given! Thanks!
  9. Hey Guys im looking for a little bit of an idea really and before you say it... yes i know this is overkill but its been made to be overkill for a reason which is to make sure the system is never stressed and all been well never causes an issue I shall run you through the specs first and then explain: Case: PCI Case 5U 19" Rackmount 8001 with 4x - Silverstone 2x 5.25" Device bay to 3x 3.5" PSU: 1000W Corsair HX1000i (Linked to a UPS) Motherboard: Supermicro MBD-X10SRA-O CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2620 - Socket 2011-3 Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H80i V2 RAM: 2x 32GB Samsung DDR4, PC4-19200 (2400) Cache: Silverstone SST-ECM20 2 Port M.2 Expansion Card + 2x 250GB Samsung 960 Evo NVMe M.2 Storage: 10x 6TB Seagate ST6000NM0024 Nearline V.4 Enterprise NIC: 2 Port Intel X540-T2 10 Gbps The backstory basics of this is that there is an internal 10Gb Network for the main computers on the network with everywhere wired with CAT6a given the property is in the process of being renovated so only made sense to run the cables while i could allbe it most of the devices on the network will be running at 1gb/s its there to future proof. Plex and the NAS run as normal with an external link directly in via VPN from the Work server to my system with a 300Mb/s download 30mb/s up connection to deal with that which is plenty. Ok to the gritty point... This system is mainly going to be used as a Plex Server, NAS and a Backup for my companies offsite. As you can see the drives are the highly rated Seagate enterprise drives that Linus raved about a while ago and i have never had any issues with this capacity of drive however when it comes down to how to run this beast i am a little lost. So far the current ideas are either running UnRaid as the back bone which is by far the most professional way of doing it, the other which i have just stumbled over after all this time is Microsoft Storage pools which appear to work in a similar way to UnRaid's Storage pools. Has anybody had any experience pitting these two against each other and the differences in performance between the two? UnRaid makes things a little more complex down the road as obviously i could just use a copy of Windows 10 Pro to run the Storage pools however i kind of get the feeling that the UnRaid server with a 10GBe NIC in there will do the job just as well, but ties the rest of the system up and i don't really want to run VM's on the Storage array for my needs. Windows 10 Pro would be the most convenient way but that means nothing in technology if there is a better way! anybody can help i would be really grateful! Sorry for this post sounding rushed, im just leaving the office so need to get out haha!!!!
  10. Only problem is the fans have already been changed. Somewhat reluctant to change them all again. i was thinking about a LED light kit that can change the brightness on and using that to add a bit of extra colour. thoughts?
  11. Hi all, Currently in build stages of my new rig. I have a Corsair Obsidian 750D at current which i have changed all ot the internal fans to either AF or SP Corsair 140mm fans with White LEDs in. 2x in front, 2x on roof, 1x on rear. the colour scheme for my hardware is somewhat Red and black on a Asus X99 Sabretooth board with Red Corsair Neutron drives. Could i get away with fitting 2x Red 120mm AF corsair fans in the base of the case and have a slight red upglow without upsetting the balance of the white lights do you think? Any advice on this would be massively greatful as im not far off finished with the build otherwise!
  12. If going with Nvidia it Will be a standard GTX 980 (probably a gainwood one due to there BRILLIANT design on the I/O back panel should watercooling be taken into acount down the line). Only want 1 card at current but potentual to add a 2nd 6 months down the line when watercooling would happen. im less concerned about gaming as i am performance in Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator above all.
  13. Ok so i have a quick question for all the Geeks/Gamers/Videographers/Photographers who have high spec computers. With Adobe now making use of Open CL and CUDA alot more for processing data in Creative Cloud, which graphics cards do you prefer? AMD Radeon or Nvidia? Currently in major limbo between a Sapphire Radeon 390X 8GB & Gainwood Nvidia GTX 980 4GB and have ZERO idea which would be better for the Photography purpose and light gaming. The rig will be as follows to go in: Case - Corsair Obsidian 750D PSU - Corsair HX1000i Cooler - Corsair H110i GTX CPU Cooler Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth X99 Motherboard CPU - Intel i7 5820k LGA 2011-3 GPU - ?????? Boot Drive - Samsung SM951 M.2 512GB SSD Scratch Drive - 2x Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD - Raid 0 Storage - 2x WD Blue SSHD 4TB - Raid 1 RAM - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2666) DDR4 Display - Asus MG279Q 27" IPS 144hz (open to change dependent on Red or Green Team decision) Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
  14. 1. £2500 2. Only for gaming 3. Have Razer Blackwidow + Razer Naga Chroma at current 4. Only moderately. 4ghz at most and only lightly on GPU but would be a case of trial and error.
