  1. Won't post without one, It's not thermal, but Dell didn't use threadlocker so screws kept backing out... So I used some of my own and nah this poor thing is never coming apart again.
  2. This seems to be exactly what I need, but sadly isn't helping one bit. Still marked as solved Thanks but I actively avoid running Windows or any Microsoft products.
  3. As the title says, My Dell Inspiron 5577 Gaming from 2017 is on it's last leg. It's on it's 5th battery, it rejected the last one after only a few weeks. It's lived on a charger for months but now it's only getting worse and instantly dies if I peg the CPU for too long. I daily drive EndeavorOS, How can I cap my CPU to like 60% until I can get money for a suitable replacement. I'm thinking a Thinkpad P1 gen 3 or X1 Extreme.
  4. I have been trying to fix this for days, I use a Freenas server for just about everything, I use one SMB share that works fine on my laptop running Endeavor OS and my sisters Macbook. My desktop usually runs Garuda but I broke the install and probably switching to Artix. So for now i'm using Windows 10. I have tried, tried remapping the drive but no dice. For whatever reason despite the server clearly being online and using it daily, Windows claims it's offline and won't let me log in. I've followed a ton of tutorials but haven't made any progress. How can I get this server back online?
  5. Source: Valve emailed everyone who submitted a reservation. Q1 2022 was too good to be true I guess.
  6. BIOS has been on the latest version for a few months now, Reseated the CPU but no dice.
  7. Alright, after 4 years well served, my Asus B350-f Gaming mobo finally let me down... I think. A few weeks ago I bought a GTX 970 on ebay for a friend and tested it in my PC beforehand to make sure it was stable. ever since then I would get random BSOD every 20 minutes to an hour with stopcodes "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA" or "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP". I thought this was a ram issue so I RMA'd my ram with Corsair (Vengence RGB Pro 3000mhz) but no improvement. I start moving dimms to different slots and found slot 4 specifically is unstable. moved each dimm to slots 1 and 3 and while my PC is now stable, i'm capped at 2133mhz and there is a static yellow LED on the mobo and i'm not sure what to do from here. My 1700x has been rock solid for me since I got it and have no intentions of upgrading especially in this market. Is my motherboard dead or is there anything else I can do to remedy my ram speed? (yes I have the fake dimm lighting kit. it's still a 8x2gb kit. don't judge, it hasn't made any difference in stability from what I can tell)
  8. I just ordered a passive one, the VFD is something I got off ebay so perfect accuracy was never my goal to begin with. just looks really cool lol
  9. That's what i'm already doing though, You can't use the RCA on the back and 5mm output on the front at the same time. it just outputs to whichever is plugged in first
  10. So what you're sugesting is the VFD display is grounding back into the Magni amp and introducing noise into the rest of the system, Would something like this work?: https://amzn.to/3hV15qL also here's a diagram of my full setup I spent too much time drawing if it helps
  11. Hello robots, I have this vacuum florescent spectrum analyzer/ clock that I really don't want to get rid of, but it's introducing a buzzing sound into my headphones. My setup isn't complicated, just a 3.5mm to RCA from my pc to a Schiit Magni 3 Heresy and a Y splitter to the VFD display and my Senheiser HD558's. What is the best way I can isolate the Display while still keeping it connected to my audio system? I've tried software to output to multiple audio sources but never got it to work right.
  12. Oh my god I got my RX580 to replace my 750ti too lmao. great little card, aged like wine
  13. Try another cable, Try another OS. NIC's can fail, but it's uncommon. worst case scenario they're $13 USD on amazon. https://amzn.to/2RZttih
  14. Yep! Quadro FX5600. I won a bid for a lot of broken GPU's on ebay for $15 a few years ago and thought it was just too impressive to leave in a box. Actually have no idea if it works, never bothered to test them either. But seriously it's like over a foot long lmao.
  15. "Untested/as is" is almost universal for "Tested and broken, but selling as is to shed liability". I wouldn't pick up on someone elses project unless: 1) you know exactly what you're doing. 2) it's for parts. 3) just for ascetics (like me )
  16. Is this a fresh install of Windows? Try reinstalling the display driver.
  17. Depends on what you want to do with it, I have an RX580 8gb (basically the same thing) and it's good for 1080p mid to high settings. I paid $170 USD for mine on ebay and that was hardly a deal at the beginning of 2020
  18. So, I love my Note 9, had it for a while, but with one problem. it's been on a November 2019 security patch and Android 9 for as long as I can remember. I bought it unlocked on eBay, when it arrived it was locked to Sprint but switched to T-mobile when I put my sim in. and that's where it's sat. Today I've been trying to update it with ODIN but ran into an interesting road block, the Baseband version still matches up to Sprint from 2019. Yes I've already made a backup of my data, however it would be really poggers if I didn't need to factory reset my phone. Is the solution a $4 junk sprint sim from ebay enough to pick up a regular OTA update? Is wiping my phone inevitable? Is flashing a 2021-03-31 Sprint update in ODIN from sammobile easier than I'm making it out to be and play nicely with Samsung locking the phone to Tmobile?
  19. UPDATE: So I drove for an hour with a friend thinking everything will be sketchy considering the price, but turns out the seller was an engineer at Dell and was moving in a couple days and trying to get rid of as much stuff as possible, he pre-ordered the headset and used it for about six months before moving, putting it back in the box where it was just never set-up again. it sat there since ~2017. so $400 and I have a basically brand new system complete in box and everything is working. Besides the obvious flaws such as my forehead getting sore after a few hours, this is just like a tech demo I saw years ago at SXSW. I couldn't be happier. probably wouldn't recommend since Craigslist is always one-off situations, but damn VR is cool.
  20. I'm doing it. I'll keep this thread updated as things develop. $400 is still a lot of money but this is something I've been eyeing since 2017 when it was released plus the seller seems like a nice guy in emails. though lets just foreshadowing isn't so obvious...
  21. Alright, So I plan on buying a used HTC Vive off Craigslist for $400, yes it's low, also an hour drive away. but that's why i'm here. What is the best way to test an HMD? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5577G with a 4gb GTX 1050(desktop is better, see profile for specs), clearly not VR ready but would it work to test in a Starbucks or something? What are some other things I should be looking for? (also not sure where to post this, HMD = Head Mounted Display so i'm posting here. mods feel free to move or delete)
  22. I just want you to know I pulled an all-nighter trying to get this working. Through all my years of using Kubuntu, KDE Neon and MX Linux I always thought /dev was for peripheral. devices. You live and you learn I guess. TKL is still super buggy so i'm going to blame everything on that. Web UI is nowhere near as polished and intuitive as FreeNAS.
