I decided for my birthday which is the Jan 10th I want to celebrate it by doing something I love. I have not celebrated my birthday in over a decade, but for this upcoming birthday, I am asking you all to party with me in the way we like best, through folding! LTT event was so kind to offer a few LTTStore discount codes to make it all the more fun.

The event will run from my birthday the 10th for one week, so until the 16th.

This event will NOT be eligible for F@H event badges.

    PASSKEYS! (they're really important)

Don't forget to get yourself a passkey from the link below to ensure that you hit the points requirement, the passkey is a feature that was added a while ago to the Folding Client that helps to authenticate each user on the network, an added bonus of this is the fact that it allows you to qualify for QRB(Quick Return Bonus) Points, QRBs are extra points you earn for submitting work units more quickly, such as if you have faster hardware or let the client fold full time, rather than on idle. QRB credit is awarded after 10 WUs have been submitted. You can get your passkey from the link below.

This is just a PSA for the new guys here, the folding team is a small close knit community, so here's a few things I'd like you all to keep in mind. It doesn't hurt to say thank you, if someone has genuinely helped you out don't forget to drop a reaction on their posts, help others where ever you can and finally we are a team first and always.

Check your stats out here! Bare in mind it can take some time for your first WUs to appear so leave it a day or two.

Sorry for the delay in this, I got stoned and started listening to Lo-Fi and lost track of time. That is, we are over, yes there is a mix up with the end date so a show of goodwill we are reducing the min days requirement down to 19, so no one misses out due to my mistake

Thank you all for everything you've done this year, honestly I am truly humbled at the great number of people who joined us for this event. Wanting to help others with no direct reward to themselves is a most noble pursuit and one worth celebrating. So have a beer, a smoke, or hell have what may be your first real gaming session in 5 weeks tonight, because you have done yourselves proud.

I remember the video where Linus went to the NCIX auction to get the silver play button. The OG button with the NCIX name on it that he was the one making the videos for that he was the creator responsible for. That was literally HIS play button. Had it been me, I would have held fast on that stance but he had enough buttons from other channels and decided you know what, what happened to you sucked, keep it man, and moved on. That the community took a different stance says literally nothing about Linus or his company, he did literally the most right thing he could have. Got emotional at first and then said you know what, you deserve this, I have two. let me shout out your channel, take care man. how on EARTH is anything else that came after Linus's fault???

Nothing of what you're saying says anything of value. LTT is a business. Businesses have rigor. You're calling out Linus for being human by having emotions. What's wrong with you?

This was already addressed in the past. Blaming this on Linus is completely nuts, but I understand a grieving father. But the facts:

    1. In the NCIX auction video, you can see that Linus wants to buy the silver play button.
    2. Linus arrived to late and the button was already sold to the kid that owned MindChop.
    3. Linus asked if he could buy it from him since it holds sentimental value to him.
    4. The kid and his dad explain he never received the silver play button for his own channel.
    5. The kid offers Linus to buy the play button and shows him his channel
    6. The kid decides to sell to Linus, but Linus decides that the kid can keep it after seeing his channel
    7.  Linus gives him a shout out for being so cool to offering to sell the button back to him
    8. Linus gives the kid's channel a shout out in the video.

After this, some idiots with keyboards and to much time on their hands decided to harass the kid, even after Linus telling them to stop that idiotic behavior.

It annoys me that people keep bring up stuff like this, the wage discussions and union talk without presenting the facts as they actually are. Simply to frame Linus as a monster.

At a certain point, the toxic cesspool that is the LTT subreddit started targeting his kids. This went way beyond questioning the integrity of LTT, these were nothing more than personal attacks.

Yeah, he does run on feelz, just like he said in the video. And I think that's what a lot of people also like about Linus. He is very open about a lot of stuff, about more than he should be some times. But I'd rather have a person like that, than some corporate reaction.

    Apology video is monetized.
Honestly, who cares? Is that all that people can take away from this? I know people worshiped the holier than though disabling of monetization by GN. Do you really think that this wasn't a well thought out strategy by GN? Does it really take away from the message? Especially since they won't be releasing any video for the next week.

    LTT/LMG merch staged on set
What staged merch? Hell, what set? They are literally sitting on a couch in front of a camera. I didn't see anyone complain about GN's merch being plastered all over his set with his demonetized video.

    Links to lttstore
What does this matter? Really, explain. How does this in any way take away from the message?

    Cooling block price
Afaik they only asked GN to not reveal the price. Otherwise, just a mistake.

All in all, I feel that people who are nitpicking at everything in the video can not be satisfied. Some people would only have been satisfied if it was a video stating that they're shutting down LMG affective immediately.

High workload is normal throughout industry but it can be more or less onerous depending on compensation. I would be a lot more willing to put up with bullshit for $36/hr than I would be at $18/hr.

That said, I'm keenly aware of younger employees pitching fits over a workload that is commensurate with their position, experience, and compensation. Not to sound like a Facebook Boomer, but youngsters can be very entitled and lazy.

    I don't get it.

I totally understand that a reviewer can't use a phone for 1 year and then review it. 3 weeks ye I can say that it's "OK".

I have used Android devices for 10 years before I went on iOS. I don't own any other apple products because in my country they are really expensive. But my idea for a phone any phone is to last at least 2-3 or a maximum of 5 years. I had Huawei P8 lite the moment it was out for sale, after 1 year it started to lag the screen had an yellow line, my girlfriend got the P9 Dual cameras model great phone, great pictures overall phone died after 1 year battery started to drain faster, phone started to turn off at 50% battery.

Now I have the Huawei P9 Lite as a company phone. The phone is 1 year with me and it can't even open simple apps like Outlook without lagging or giving me an error message.

For a personal phone I had the iPhone SE and it never had any issue after my 1 year usage. I upgraded to the iPhone X (I liked the big screen and no chins) and quick note here it costs as much as a car here.

But you pay for the OS more then the phone. Try using the Note 9 for 3 years or 5 years. In our company we have some leftover iPhone 4's and they still work without lagging.

But most of all you need to look in the overall cost. If you get cheap Androids you change them every year. So if i can use my 999$ iPhone for 5 years this is 5 cheap phones.

Here you can say but they will have better specs. Yes they will but my current phone will still have dissent camera most probably will not lag and I'll have support for it.

iOS is made to fit the phone and android phones are made to fit the android OS. It's all a matter on what you prefer.

But look at the big picture and I'd like to see more open minded review like your old ones.

    Regards,

My thoughts (not combative statements, just thoughts / counterpoints to your thoughts) are above in red. Bear in mind that there's no way to please everyone, so neither yourself or myself are any more "right" or "wrong" about the overall design of a product. People just need to realize that you can either design a "perfect" product for function OR design a "perfect" product for looks - but designing a "perfect" product for both function AND looks is nearly impossible, since looks are 100% subjective and functionality is 100% objective.

cheapasian reacted to Qwertious in Even Apple doesn't care about the iPhone Xs...
Yes there is definitely a premium on top of their products amen definitely there are a lot more value products out there but Apple doesn’t really fit into those product segments. However the SE/5C/Xr does change our views on the stance of the company especially with the “new” iPad. Apple does seem to be expanding from the top premium products to the lower middle high end range.

    Inferior spec in what regards?
Smaller battery capacity in iPhones but they’ve always maintained great battery life
Worse cellular services? That is true I can agree from what I’ve seen but I don’t have anything to compare off of but speed wise it is not an issue at all. I’m using my phone to watch videos, browse the web and not downloading big files. I understand for many people that may be an issue but for lots it is not an issue apart from reception which I can’t comment on.
Inferior screen resolution? Yes, not wrong howver I’ve not heard anyone complain about pixely or unsharp displays apart from the net.

Ease of use is subjective. I’ve had less request for help when I switched my family over.

Dont know any better. Yes and no
since switching my family to Apple. There has been no talk or mention of wanting to switch back. But yes people will obviously prefer what they have used before. They have no reasons to switch away which which goes with your last point. However apple does have many tech savvy people on their side even when they are marketed to your average Joe.

Oh boy not one of these.
Sheeps, fanboy,people 10k dummy iPhone?... no comments

    Worse resale value ✅
IPhone second hand market will still maintain a better resale value regardless if they release a i7 iPhone or some shit.

Genius bar people yes they are not tech savy as always and experiences may differ. We got good consumer law in Australia so for us the genius bar does what it does well. All I need to do is tell them my issue then they fix it. I have yet to have a experience with a useless genius bar member before.

Protection vs no protection? Almost most phones are now made with glass backs  but yeah apple has does have some retarded pricing with replacements and it is up to the user if they would rather go naked or go with a case. It's no one's fault that a user wants a thick and heavy case, it's all on themselves.

Not Apples fault people want to buy what they can’t afford. Useless argument
Also not Apples fault users want to upgrade after a couple of years. Are you telling them to stop improving devices so people will use their own device longer? Also useless argument

Apple Tax yea can agree but I’ve outlined why I still buy them.

Dildo jack also yea that’s only cause judgemental people like you will probably give other users shit about it. But I do also understand 3.5mm jack debate and for lots of people I know that isn’t an issue and for a handful yes that’s why there are other alternatives.

I dont think Apple died when Steve Jobs died but I think it is slowly dying. Apple just has many truck loads of money so it will take a very long time for it to happen(if Apple doesnt stop doing what they are doing). I dont think people will continue to put up with all their anti-consumer practices. I dont think the products Apple is making have the same quality and I dont think Steve Jobs would have ever let a Mac book be produced with a touch bar, I dont think we would have a phone with a camera bump or a notches. We wouldnt have multiple phone released in one year and I really dont think there would have been an Apple watch.

cheapasian reacted to Qwertious in Even Apple doesn't care about the iPhone Xs...
Typical Apple haters with the same useless comments "Apple died when Steve Jobs did" yet if he was still alive we wouldn't have any devices in the phablet size. If Apple is so shit after his death why is Apple now the most valued company in the world?

Why do you still many iPhones, Apple Watches & AirPods all in the wild? Must be because people are idiots and will buy Apple because so they show off. While haters and their PC is all RBG, water-cooled for looks & running the latest 9900K for that extra 5 fps.

When you buy an "expensive" Apple product you get in return
Something that will hold its value much better compared to Android/Window product. You're $1,500 iPhone will still be sold at $1,500 a few months later, resale value: $1,300. Yes there maybe retailer promos or discount but they will still maintain a premium price. Your Android? $1,000 few months later: $800 then your resale? $500
Unmatched product support. Got a defect or issue? Apple Store face to face no bullshit(here in Australia) and your product will be back in your hands on that day or a few days turn out. Rest of the market will have to get their phone shipped off to some repair HQ... fun.
A premium device that is well built and does arguably looks really nice. People with their Moto G5 or their Nokia 7 will be like oh but my does those too but only cost 500 blah blah, Just like how a Toyota Corolla does but you're not going to shit on others when they are driving a BMW when they do the exact same thing
