  1. Thank you for all the replies so far! Really appreciate it
  2. Hello LinusTechTips community! I've never had space for a desktop PC, which restricted me to laptops to use for PC gaming. After having gone through 2 laptops already, and finally moving to a larger place, I've decided to leave laptops altogether, as I cannot stand the constant BSODs, display driver stopping functioning, overheating, etc. Not to mention the horrendous 37 FPS on games with everything turned down to low I really wanted to go via the Intel/NVIDIA route, just through personal preference, and having other family members' success with these suppliers The constraints for this build are very strict - since it's my first build, I want everything to be just right I'm trying to stick to a black/white/chrome theme throughout, and would like this build to be able to be used for gaming, some basic editing/rendering, a little streaming from time to time, and also the easiest of all to achieve, be able to be used for work purposes! So far, these are my specs: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/PqYQ7h CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury White 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard SSD: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Secondary HDDs: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive PSU: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler Case: Fractal Design Define S w/Window ATX Mid Tower Case Monitor: BenQ XL2430T 24.0" 144Hz Monitor The chrome part of the build may come when I perhaps decide to watercool the build - the chrome aspect would come from nickel/chrome-plated copper tubing, but that's a topic for another day. Will probably save that project for a rainy day or something Any help would be greatly appreciated regarding this. Peripherals-wise, I already have a mouse and keyboard that I got a while back due to the keys on my laptop keyboard being too hot to touch whilst gaming Eventually, I will upgrade them, but for now, they will have to do, as this build is already getting a bit expensive haha! If you have any improvements/suggestions regarding the specs, please post below! If possible, try to keep to the black/white/chrome theme! Budget is around the price now, preferably no higher, lower, all the better! I also plan on getting some white LEDs or something further down the line, and plan on having multiple monitors (hopefully, if the bank balance doesn't drain ) Since this is my first build ever, I'm probably missing stuff, so please do let me know if that's the case! (no pun intended, I have included the case!) I believe I haven't included any fans, but was looking at the Corsair AF and SP series, due to the interchangeable rings to fit the colour scheme, and the good reviews regarding them. However, not sure which ones/how many, PWM or not, whether or not I need SP or AF (I believe SP are more useful for when using with radiators? correct me if I'm wrong!) Kind regards, Blu
  3. UPDATE: All my inquiries into venues fell through for one reason or another, so just wondering what "type" of venue should I be looking to hire for around 100 people?
  4. Will probably rent out some dedi-boxes and run some on there, but it was mainly a social gathering thing, where people could just game together, and possibly on the same game/server
  5. Organising it myself, probably a cheap entry of £25-30 for the 2 days
  6. Would be really cool if you could Still all on paper right now, might not do it for a while, as I really need to have everything planned to the last punctuation mark before I can set things into motion
  7. Got it, might invest in one then, as it might just make everything run that much smoother Using good ol' physics, P=IxV, I=P/V, the average voltage supplied in the UK is 230V, so 800/230 comes up to around 3.5V per person. Rounding that up to 4V per person for ease, need to find a supplier that can possibly set up a portable power source. I was thinking of using 6ft tables, 2 people per table, with an 8-port switch finishing at each table cluster of 4 tables, in a 2x2 formation. Would you happen to know of anybody that knows how to setup a caching server for a LAN? Many thanks
  8. What would one use a caching server for? (Please don't kill me for asking this ) Thank you for all this great info btw, really appreciated
  9. If you decide to come & live in the UK, sure
  10. Hi there LTT community! After watching a few videos of various LAN parties, I thought it would be a good idea to host a LAN party of about 100 people to bring our small community together, etc. I have an average understanding of networking, and I think I should have at least part of the knowledge to setup a network infrastructure, at least the physical side of things. I have a few venues that I'm keeping my eye out for, and have searched up places to hire 6ft desks, fold-able chairs, etc. I am here to ask how to setup a network for 100 people, fully. Along with power systems, as I'm pretty sure I'll need external power sources to power 100 PCs under load! Any advice/help/tips is/are welcome! Many thanks, Blu
  11. Where did you buy the servers from?
  12. All I will say is; from past experience, buying copper tubes already plated with nickel/chrome tend to crack on the surface of the joint if you bend them. I might try bending copper and then just popping round the corner to a metal plating company See what the results are then. Sadly, lack of funds means I cannot complete my planned build, and a lack of previous builds prevents me from gathering sponsors Oh well, only time will tell EDIT: You could also try make a "hackintosh" PC with the same colour scheme; would allow you to combine designing + gaming into one
  13. Looks smashing; I was planning a similar build when I had the time and money, but I would use chrome/nickel-plated copper tubing. That would give it a badass quality to it, but I love your build, it's perfection! What are you going to be using it for?
  14. Surely if it's wall-mounted on glass it would be visible? Best of luck with your build as well, hopefully you get it all sorted
  15. I'm planning a build similar to yours, just started the other day, and I'm thinking about using grey smoky glass, like this stuff; http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/60223823/#/60142657 Hopefully nothing goes wrong Followed
  16. Check out tonymacx86's website/forum for your parts. They update them each month so you never know
  17. The 2D blueprints for the Case Labs SMA8, so that I can try and make it myself. Somebody did it with the In-Win S-Frame case, and made their own mini version of it Your build is starting to remind me greatly of them
  18. It would be interesting to see if I can find the blueprints to the SMA8 or a rough version of it
  19. OH! No wonder I found nothing...I was looking in the completely wrong direction! Haha! Do you know if there are any coolant fluids that give the same effect?
  20. Do you, by chance, know what coolant was used there? That's exactly what I've been looking for, for my build
  21. 1) USB Type A port = Female: 12.5mm long, 5.12mm width 2) Audio Jacks = roughly 6mm in diameter (the actual jack that the audio cable plugs into), otherwise, the end of the cable is, I presume, 3.5mm 3) 3.5 inch front panel slot = 102mm x 119mm x 25mm Hope this helps Really looking forward to how this pans out, as I really like the Case Labs SMA8, but don't have the money to afford it, so this MAY be a possible work around to that
  22. Usually SECC steel if I'm not mistaken? For the width, try measuring your current case width and try and get as close to it as possible
