"You tell me I need to check up on my hearing, that offended me because I actually have amazing hearing compared to most people so I took offence to that you would talk about something in a real world just because I think a product is shit."

This is all pure nonsense. I've got a "perfect hearing too". It's got something to do with having a healthy pair of earlobes, tympanic membrane, some smallest bones in the human body, and cochlea with cochlear nerves. The rest depends on the abilities of the primary and secondary hearing cortex, and finaly multimodal associative cortex respectively. For example: you will be good in music theory, and can tell accords properly, if your brain is wired to understand them easily, and to do it it ofc needs to have a proper input, from healthy auditory system.

A lot of variables, whether you have healthy or damaged hearing. Lots of ways perception differes and deceives. The ONLY objective way is to test devices with references and electronics equipment you can trust. Using these things, O2 and odac are the best out there, proven. Simple. That's why you actually might have a defect somewhere in your audio chain, and again, the point that your other amp sounds better to you, is ok, but o2/odac is flat and good.

Now, it might sound bad to you, and that's FINE. It doesn't necessarily mean you're deaf or damaged in any way. Your perception might be different. You might be subject to expectation bias / placebo too. ALL HUMANS ARE, always. So that's fine too. Just all the things to keep in mind.

Telling someone to go check his hearing does sound a bit offending, but nowhere near to justify your aggresive response. That will maybe scare some people, but majority will see it as a sign of rudeness and lack of self confidence infact. Admit you're wrong to yourself, learn and move on. That's the way. You don't have to apologize to anyone here, but do heed the advice of people that only want to save your and your parents hard earned cash, and, while it DOES sound a bit aggresive, a BIT, you really COULD have a hearing problem if you hear a flat response wrong. I'm certain it was said in good intent, and not meant to insult you. There's no reason to. Think about it, read it again. That comment wasn't there to insult you.

It should be fine really, my ODAC's been sitting in my O2 enclosure without any kind of screws holding it (I didn't have any and I was lazy) and it's been like 2 years, no issues.

I know that's not very helpful, but you should really spend the extra 100 or so to get both the 970 and the i5-4690k with a Z97 mobo. The sweet spot for a gaming PC is at around $1200 CAD right now and you have to go for it.

I don't need headfi to make me believe in that statement. It's just common sense. Cheap - and some expensive - devices can come with noise, clipping at high volumes or just not being neutral (intentionally or not). And you definitely don't need to drop a ton of money to get a decent amp.

That's the only thing an amp SHOULD do. However, some of them do a lot more than that, and that's when it becomes detrimental to quality.

First of all, change your already-set mindset about 'how hard is it to drive a headphone properly, is determined by how many ohms the impedance is'

The impedance rating is just 1 factor, and in most cases, the less determining factor. The other and more determining factor is the headphone's efficiency/sensitivity, look for a number with dB, dB/V, or dB/mW. The bigger the better.

This just happened yesterday: HD650 with 300 ohms ran just fine plugged to my ipad 3, while 50 ohms Fostex T50RP and 35 ohms Hifiman HE400 is struggling when plugged to that same ipad.

"Even uncompressed music like FLAC's, are still digital, which means that while the sample rate may be VERY high, it is still going to have gaps (ie: missing data) from the original analog signal."

Oh god, this is so wrong. You really should read on the matter, starting with Nyquist sampling theorem.

Let me just explain it very quickly: a DAC doesn't just take the digital samples and try to smooth that shit out. What it does is calculate the original signal with the samples (assuming the sampling process was perfect) and outputs that signal. If the sampling rate is at least twice the highest frequency in the original signal, it can be reconstructed without any missing information.

The M50's are 4.4 performance per dollar; the DT770's are 7.5 performance per dollar. I measured the performance myself with my performance-meter. I can provide the raw data if requested.

Seriously though, audio isn't like graphics cards or CPU's. Performance/dollar ratio is meaningless here. It all comes down to what your budget is and what you are looking for in terms of portability and sound signature.

The M50's are OK if you can get them at around $100. They are fairly neutral, but a little bass heavy.
The DT770 are superior in sound quality and comfort. They have a "V" shaped sound signature. They'd definitely be my choice here.

See I even linked to the information that that explains how,  plus I also pointed out that 600mW for a 33ohm load (which is RMS wattage at low gain setting).

Do you even understand how these work? there are two per channel.  I linked to the proof. And just so you know the output stage of the Ember is solid state, so don't go thinking it is more powerful because it is a tube amp. the tube is only the pre.

Dude, come on. no one is telling you to buy anything specifically, they are just answering your questions or clarifying your statements.

    you said:

You are "more interested in this amp for driving headphones vs the tube sound" and "The problem is that I can't find a normal ss headphone amp that will drive these planar magnetic headphones"

This says to me you are more worried about driving your headphones than which amp you have, we have shown you that you can have a cheaper SS amp that will drive them. We have not said don't buy the ember, but we have told you about other options.

you then went on to say:

to which I explained how loud those drivers would be at 600mW

Mate we're trying to help,  If you really want the Ember then go and get it.  The cold hard truth is that a no one has told you that the o2 is better or that you "should" get it, even bowleggeedcat said there are a multitude of amps on the market that will drive those headphones.  If you come looking for advice you will get it, but please, we are not going to say something that isn't true just to make you feel better about buying any one particular amp.

I beg to differ, there are quite a few very knowledgeable and well experienced people on these pages that can adequately discuss sound signatures and the difference between tube and SS.  I will grant that there are a few who are just jumping on whichever opinion seems the most popular at the time but you'll get that with any forum, and probably more so with forums like Head Fi where no one wants to look the ignoramus by revealing the truth.

As far as tube amps go, they have there place, they are niche product for select enthusiasts.  They do what they do and you either love them or not.  But for the record and speaking strictly from experience you'll never get a tube to sound like an SS amp,  maybe close at times and with a limited number of headphones but not the same.

I will never tell someone not to get one if that's what they want, but if you are after true sound reproduction then you should probably start looking else were.

I'm sure some do. But I'm here to defend anything I said in the video. As I've said about 7 times in Logan's forum, I type better than I talk, and sometimes my brain works faster than I can talk, and I don't explain things clearly or as thoroughly as I should, but I can back up everything I said with facts, articles, and knowledge I've learned throughout college. The majority of peoples arguments are versus flac vs MP3. This thread alone shows that for the overwhelming majority of people, it doesn't matter. There are a bunch of audio engineers, and recording artists that also have confirmed this on Logan's forum. I never said FLAC is useless as a medium, it's just useless for playback. It's needed for archival purposes, but that's about it. People are also defending that tubes are needed for guitarist recordings. I 100% agree, but people are missing the point of the video. I'm talking about PLAYBACK, not recording. Tubes introduce much higher distortion and artifacts than SS amps (and for most tube amps, noise). That's just a fact. They cost a LOT more to buy, then you have to spend X amount of money on tubes over its lifetime. There's a reason we stopped using tubes in the 50's.

And people seemingly forget that I said at the end of the argument, if you like tubes, more power to you. I'm just explaining why they are bad, and that you should know the facts before buying a tube vs SS amp.

Speaking from experience, the worst musicians I've met are those who are the most full of themselves. True musicians are never satisfied with their level (and they shouldn't be, there is ALWAYS room for improvement). I strongly suggest you lose the attitude, this will make you a better musician and person.

Lol so yeah....you know the whole point of these video series was to get people talking about this stuff and it's worked. We also said in the first few minuets that we are probably going to piss some people off, I guess we did. For your first comment, (about YouTube), I love messing with trolls. It's fun to me, and if it makes me look "unprofessional" oh well. Don't buy anything from me then, and unsubscribe from Logan. For every one person that we made mad, we probably helped 100 people or more.

As with every YouTube comment, you really don't have any information to support your argument, so it's moot.

And I'll explain this one last time, it wasn't a advertisement. I told Logan multiple times to NOT mention my products. He did it anyway, I can't control him. We did most of the videos in one take, so I may have not done things 100% correctly the way I would have wanted it too.

    *incoming personal excuses*

I'm not a good public speaker. I mumble, and I'm not good at explaining things in a dumbed down level.

That's about the last of it, but people are taking this video WAY to seriously, like it's the bible or something. If you don't believe me, great, make your argument and have some supporting evident. Don't act like a pre-teen and start slinging mud.

edit: I voted yes to see what the polls are like (genuinely curious) and even with my vote, less than 15% of people disagree. I'll take that.
