Well, first of all that is not called throttling.

Second, the 4690k is only a 4 core CPU and it is really easy for a program to use it close to 100%.

Third, maybe you have other stuff in the background using some of the CPU and not just your game.

i dunno, i just heard throttling is when your pc slows down or fps reduces in order to prevent my pc from going crazy.

also, I definitely do not. I have task manager open and it's just cs:go taking up everything...everything besides csgo only takes up ~4% usage.

    You said "cpu begins throttling"

Throttling happens because of high temps.

Either you're reading your temps wrong or the CPU is not throttling.

well when the usage maxes out it begins dropping frames. Happens rarely but averaging 75-80 usage is pretty high for just 1 program.

  3. The Issue:

I'm having serious CPU usage issues in Counter Strike. I am averaging around 75-85% cpu usage. I used MSI Afterburner and task manager and noticed that all my temperatures were fine (cpu and gpu) and gpu usage is fine too...but for some reason my cpu usage goes really high when im playing a counter strike game.

The reason why this concerns me is because:
    1) I know people who have nearly the same specs as me and are averaging way below 75% cpu usage.
    2) After a long time of playing, I notice that my cpu begins throttling and the fps start to become very very inconsistent...
    3) When I try doing any other additional multitasking (i.e. play music on spotify or talk to people on discord) my CS:GO gaming experience becomes nearly unplayable.
    4) I can open like 10 twitch streams and play other games while still averaging less cpu usage than what I'm getting with CS:GO right now.

    Things to take note of:
    - I already reinstalled CS:GO

    - I optimized my in-game config to increase fps

    - I have always had CS:GO running on high-priority

    - I have always had "Asus-optimal" option selected in my Bios to increase the PC's performance.

If someone can please take the time to read all this and give me suggestions as to how I can minimize my cpu usage in CSGO, that would be amazing. Also, please remember that I already checked temperatures and they all seem to be average for both cpu and gpu.

    You have

    Newegg

    Amazon

    NCIX US

    Why Bestbuy?

"we need a fast and cheap solution"

that's why. we aren't gonna wait like another 5-6 days of delivery just for something that might be just as good as something from best buy.

  5. So i just built a new pc for my brother (not for gaming) and he said that he is not able to hook up an ethernet cord to the pc. As a result, we think we are going to buy a usb wifi adapter or some sort of wifi card so that we can be able to connect to the internet via wifi. I'm not too familiar with the names but i think the wifi cards are also called PCI express adapters??

well, the point is we called best buy and they said that they do not carry any pci express adapters but they do have wireless wifi adapters. They said that they have these four in the picture below:

Just wanted to know if they were good and if they are what i am looking for. We just need a fast and cheap solution for having wifi access for this new computer?

When the motherboard arrives, check the box by the serial number. It should say what BIOS version is pre-installed at the factory.

You can check online on the motherboards support webpage to see if this BIOS is after the Kabylake compatibility. If the BIOS version is not stated on the box, try it, and if it doesn't work return the CPU and get a Skylake one.

does anyone know if newegg lets you exchange and return items for other items? Their return policy is very vague and after reading it, it almost sounds like u can only return items in order to exchange for the same item you ordered.

Step 1. Using another computer, download the latest BIOS from the motherboards support website, and place the BIOS file onto a USB stick.

Step 2. Build the new computer with a compatible Skylake processor.

Step 3. Turn on the PC, and enter the BIOS.

Step 4. Flash the updated BIOS onto the motherboard. Details will be in the user manual.

Step 5. Check system POSTs, and displays correct updated BIOS version.

Step 6. Turn off the system, and remove the Skylake processor. Then install the Kabylake processor.

Step 7. Turn on the system, and check that the system POSTs. Carry on as normal.

Honestly, it is easier to avoid doing this by getting a B250 motherboard. If you have the motherboard already, get a i5 6600 CPU instead.

i can't get a skylake processor...should i return the kaby lake and just go for a skylake one instead for the sake of trouble?

  8. So I have a GTX 960, windows 10, and a EVGA 600W PSU laying around in my closest. All free. Assuming this, I need to have a PC built that is around 600 dollars. The PC is for multitasking on browsers and other programs. It is NOT for gaming. We might end up gaming a bit on it, but nothing intensive at all; maybe something like some casual counter strike or TF2. But otherwise, it is PRIMARY is multitasking.

With this in mind, I have a picture that shows what I will be purchasing for this build, it is highlighted in yellow.

I am primarily concerned with the motherboard-ram-cpu combo. I wanted to know (assuming I want DDR4 and a 1151 socket) if this is a good combo or not? I realize now that the board is z-series, which is pointless if my cpu is not a k-series. I also know now that the Kaby Lake is annoying to work with because of the bios update that may be required since it's a newer processor. As a result, I want someone to give me a better motherboard-ram-cpu combo that's around the same price with the same specs, just more compatible and less of a pain in the *#$ to work with.

    Thank you!
