  1. @Dat Guy @M.Yurizaki It seems like most of you agree on not making my website overkill with tools. Wouldn't it still be a bit better to use some SSG? If I don't use one, I don't need stuff like NodeJS right? I'm sorry if I have a hard time understanding, this feels really confusing, SSGs calling themselves frameworks like Jekyll and bootstrap or foundation, but they don't seem to do the same things... What are -truly- the main differences? As I said on the main post, I'm planning to have project pages, so having ways of having templates, ways of making writing tedious HTML lines less intense, more streamlined, so that I can really focus on the presentation of the project instead of working on the structure of the page etc. Just ways of making my life easier! Any recommendations as it seems that I will not be using SSGs? Thanks again for your help!
  2. Hello everyone ! I’m currently studying computer science and I’d like to create my own website for a professional use. This is what I’m planning to have on it: - General presentation. (Home page) - Detailed CV. - Project page (and pages for each project). - Eventually a “Tutorial” section. I’d like to host it on Gitlab (git), which means it needs to be static: HTML, CSS and JS (etc). However, there are plenty of ways of going about it: Plain, Jekyll, Hexo, Middleman… All use different environments, such as Ruby on Rails, Python or NodeJS. This is where I kind of get lost with the amount of options I have. These environments seem more specialized in blog style websites, am I wrong? I don’t have any knowledge in Python or Ruby for instance. Just for reference, I’m a strong OOP kind of guy, so if it’s possible to translate that into my web dev experience, that would be great. It really comes down to what would be the most appropriate for me to use? Are there other options I should check out? Is there any real advantage in using these SSGs instead of just writing and managing everything yourself? Thanks! ~3751_Creator
  3. Disclaimer: Assume that I have little to NO KNOWLEDGE on backup systems etc. Hello everyone! I’ve decided this summer to work on a backup solution for myself and my parents. Here’s my situation. I’m at uni now and I only come back home for holidays. My internet connection when in my accommodation is great, same for my dad’s office (I’ll explain why I mention it later) but at home, I have a total turnip connection. We have at home 2 external WD drives for quick backups. My goal, if possible, is to have a copy of our data in 3 remote locations, the actual computer, on a cloud service and on another physical copy that I can access such as a NAS. Cloud Service: - Do you think it’s of any use? - Should it be individual packs, family…? - What service should I use? (Crashplan, Carbonite, …) Note: I’m mostly in UK or France, so if you know services that are maybe located there that’be nice. Anything else is still apprecieated. NAS: - Can someone explain the full extent of what a NAS can do backup and service wise? - Estimated total (me + parents) current “weight” of data: 4.5 To. - Is it possible to have constant (or programmed) automatic backups to NAS? - Is it possible to have these backups done remotely? (Ex: I’m in UK, NAS in France) - I had an extremely quick look at Synology bays (DS216J for instance). It seems to have nice features with the manager, such as installing packages, like Git which would be quite nice as I’m a Computer Scientist. Is it even worth it (the services they offer, compared to maybe others)? - I’m not looking in building a custom one. - What disk size should I take, while taking into consideration that it will increase slowly but surely. - What companies / bays should I take? Note: Don’t show me enterprise solutions as I’m not Bill Gates XD. - I mentioned earlier my dad’s office as I could “possibly” store the NAS there. I think it could be a good idea if something happens at my home and I would get a more stable connection. So what can you guys recommend? Once again, I have no idea how NAS really works or their capabilities. So I apologize if I don’t immediately understand what you are talking about Thank you for your kind help! ~3751_Creator
  4. It is unfortunately disabled... Further more, wouldn't it rotate ALL screens (I don't know)?
  5. Hello guys! I got a request to make on something I've been struggling to figure out for a while now! I have two screens including one that I rotate quite often from landscape for everyday use to portrait for programming. However it gets quite annoying to go to the control panel and constantly switch and reposition the screen and orientation... So here is what I hope is possible to do: Is it possible to have a script (windows and/or ubuntu) that allows me to enter a keyboard shortcut to quick swap from portrait to landscape and move the relative position of the screen (if possible). I may be asking a lot but I simply do not have the skills yet to create a script of that genre. Here are some images on the screen setups I was talking about earlier. http://imgur.com/a/3msiP Thank you for your help!!!
  6. Thanks, I'll have a look. But what would you recommend spec wise?
  7. Hey!! I'm in the process of finding the right setup for my future college laptop. I found this website with an interresting case: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/octaneII-17/ This is were I need you awesome guys. I've got a max. budget of 2000€ and I can buy it from France or theUK. I have two major goals for this laptop: Programming This means I'd like to have quite a bit of storage (dual boot etc...) -> HDD+SSD eventually Gaming I'd also like to game sometimes. This is why I don't simply want a notebook etc. (Battlefront, GTA,...) Maybe not in ultra but It would be nice to run them smoothly. Non negociable 17" screen Good keyboard So what setup would you recommend? Or do you know of other good latops etc? Thank you so much, I know that you will not decieve me. ~3751_Creator PS: I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect
  8. Source: http://www.prietobattery.com/ Prieto Battery has partnered with Intel for a potential production goal in 2018. This could result into faster battery charge and longer life (charge + global life). I'll let you check the website as they explain everything pretty well there. Cheers! (sorry for potential grammar mistakes, English is not my primmary language )
