I don't pay attention to such people who think SC is a scam because of KS, or because of its crowd funding. That is poor logic. ANYTHING can be a scam, funded by the public or funded privately. SC could crash and burn. Right now, it isn't. Its a expansive project that had its goals clearly laid out for all to see.

Misanthrope has this flawed idea of how people should spend their money. People are free to spend how they please on whatever they please; people here need to get off their high horses and stop telling others how to spend their money. Doubly ironic since some users here live off their parents income, so telling others how to spend their money is just spectacularly sad.

It was like £30 cheaper than a HTC One M8 and £50 cheaper than a Galaxy S6. So overpriced zomg.

That's not even to mention that you can buy a Mac Pro with a six core Xeon with two AMD Firepro W9000s for £3779. Btw those FirePros cost £2779 each to buy separately, so do go on about how Apple don't have a single cost-effective product.

Who cares what people like you think. If I'm going to listen to anyone's opinion on tech it's not going to be the fanboy who takes one look at a brand logo and decides that it's rubbish because of some ridiculous sense of tribalism. Grow the fuck up.

Back in May I was looking for a smartphone because my use case had changed and I needed a larger screen (but not phablet-sized). I looked at Samsung, Apple and HTC and the iPhone 6 was the best value for money that any of these had to offer at the time. That assessment has changed since -- the HTC One M9 is a bit cheaper than the M8 was, but the iPhone 6 is still a very good product both in and of itself, and in terms of price.

The fucking fanboyism on this forum is pathetic. No one is going to invite you to their party because you like phone A over phone b or your graphics cards Green instead of Red.

People would take this forum more seriously if you knew when to give credit where it was due instead of HURR THIS CUMPANY IS TEH DEVIL

Apple's build quality is among the best around. The iPhone 6's processor was second only do the Nvidia Tegra at the time of its release. At that time, the iPhone 6 was also the cheapest flagship of its closest competitors until the last month or so.

Apple tried making a lower quality, cheaper phone. It was the 5C. It completely failed. It turns out people know exactly why they are buying an Apple product when they do so.

Hating Apple for having TV adverts so that people know their products exist is fucking absurd.

That's an issue with SSDs in general, not specifically the one used by Apple. The reason SSDs are terrible for any backup-use (aside from the cost) is the fact that retrieving data off a damaged/dying SSD is very difficult -- while HDDs tend to give you a warning that they're going to fail, SSDs will just one day stop working (at which point you're more than likely never going to see the data that was stored on it ever again).

Yes, it does. Adder all is a miracle drug in post grad scenarios because of how effective it is. And no one cares in academia how much you take it, I'd argue that is far more important than "e-sports"
Also, lets not ridicule Armstrong. He cheated in a field of cheaters. Is it cheating if everyone is cheating? Or is that staying competitive? Nearly every top 10 biker dopes like mad, among other things. People get too worked up over "disadvantages". Sheesh, just to be in contention for the TDF, you need to be a doper. Winning still requires a lot of effort.

Yes but the difference in release date more than likely has to do with porting it to PC, not as a specific exclusivity for the XBO. Windows 10 and Steam get it Early 2016 (Hopefully Q1, like January).

If they are going to take the time to do a proper PC Port, then hell yes, I'm alright with the PC delay.

Would I prefer they released at the same time? Sure. But not if the PC Port suffered as a result.

    1) UE3 isn't as good as CE3 for what they wanted (an engine designed around a FP view)
    2) Epic wasn't going to sell them a full copy of the source (ie not a license but a straight up fully owned copy)
    3) Crytek helped CR to build out the tech demo he showed us at the announcement
    4) show me one original IP AAA title (ie not a sequel) that has been developed in less than 2 years that is the scale of SC. heck, Elderscrolls and Fallout games (which are sequels) take 5 years from start to release.

No. No no no no no. All of these companies who have released a product have an obligation to sell them. They need to get knowledge of their product out to the general public, and they need to justify why these people need this product in their life, and why they should spend a decent amount of money on this. You can be a butt-hurt fanboy all you like, but it doesn't change the fact that only one brand knows shit all about marketing and thought it might be a good idea and thus actually shifts some units as a result.

I know about the Apple Watch. I know about the Pebble Steel and the Pebble Time, as well as the Moto 360. I am someone who takes an interest in tech, hence my membership on this forum. I could not name any smart watch besides those I have explicitly mentioned just now. I don't own a smart watch, although I could easily afford one. (Apart from the Apple Watch Edition ) Why might that be? Because none of these companies bar Apple have even tried to tell me what positive impact any of these devices might have on my life. That is where marketing comes in.

No I didn't. The ire should be with the companies for not bothering to sell their product, not for Apple's sub-par product being successful. That's not "something wrong with capitalism", that's something wrong with their competitors.

To you. Tyll and other high profile audiophiles have graphs and actual statistical comparisons. Not everyone likes the same sound signature but it's been proven that Beats headphones now are very high quality and have a reasonably balanced sound. You might not like Beats, but they are certainly not trash at that price point.

You will see national ads for the Apple Watch.

Please tell me the last time you saw an ad for Android Wear or Pebble. I'll wait.

Good god, this forum gets sooooo salty when Apple and success are in the same sentence. What the hell is wrong with people? I find more rational views towards Apple in /r/Android for crying out loud!

The Watch right now makes little sense, like most wearable tech. I'm happier with a dedicated fitness watch. To each their own however, and clearly Apple did something right if they earned that many sales. Like a lot of products, one that makes sense for me might not for someone else. People are open to buy what they want.

So sue Apple for advertising their product and for people for actually buying it. I've seen normal people using it. I've seen watch nerds admit they see its place and admire the quality of construction. I know, shocker. Normal people who don't have a knee jerk reaction to be jaded and cynical towards Apple and their success.

Also there weren't really any practical alternatives for the vision they had. UE4 was just a concept on a whiteboard somewhere, with no practical implementations or dev tools released yet. CE3 was real and tangible and they could look at it, test it, see it. It was flexible enough to handle (in theory) everything they wanted to do.

UE4 might have been a kickass alternative - if Star Citizen was conceived a year or two later then it was - but the end result is that UE4 was never an option, because it simply didn't exist in anything resembling a state in which a dev could say "We can definitely base our game on this".

    @Misanthrope
I don't see SC as unethical at all. People paid for what they wanted. You don't get to decide what people spend their disposable income on. You also can't say that it was bad for the gaming industry. This game is single handedly employing 4 dev offices and like 300 devs. It might flop still - but then again ANY GAME might flop. All things look good though.

Would it be so bad if it was less ambitious and less graphically demanding? No, not necessarily. But then it wouldn't be Star Citizen. It would have been a totally different game.

If you want that game, go make it. Or go back someone who says they will make it.

People decide how their money will be spent. If other smaller kickstarter projects would have come up, that people were interested in, they would back them. The fact that SC is here or not is completely irrelevant to that.

Wow it's almost as if a well known brand who markets and advertises an otherwise niche product does better than companies whom most people haven't heard of and rely entirely on little known YouTube personalities to reach anyone.

    Who would have thought that?

Most of the general public don't even know Android wear exists, let alone companies like Pebble. Why? Because no one besides Apple bothered to fucking TELL THEM.
