Hi All, I "finished" building my new rig, switched the power on; everything lights up including both ram sticks, but no beeps and the computer will not post. The troubleshooting QLED for DRAM is lit up yellow indicating an issue. I have tried: Checking RAM was seated correctly Using just 1 stick, tried each ram slot Checked the power connectors to the board The Ram is on the QVL for the board All the parts are new. Unfortunately i don't have any spare DDR4 sticks to test, but it seems unlikely that both the sticks could be faulty. Any Ideas what could be the issue? All the lights light up, motherboard, RAM, graphics etc Parts list - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/XHwHnL CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Motherboard - x570 PRIME X570-PRO RAM - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL17 Memory I've been building computers for years but i'm scratching my head. Please suggest anything (even obvious) i might have missed Much appreciated, Dom

GPU Question: 2080 Super Strix Versions and Value
Captain-Obvious replied to Captain-Obvious's topic in Graphics Cards
Hi All, Thanks for confirming my suspicion - think i'll go with the cheaper version of the 2080 Super. not goign to spend an extra £130 to get 45 extra MHz which i might get overclocking anyway! Cheers! -
Hi All, The Asus Strix 2080 Super has 3 versions with different OC boost clocks: Gaming (1845 MHz) £650 Advanced (1860 MHz ) £750 OC (1890 MHz) £780 Without overclocking, how much of a difference do the versions make in terms of FPS? - I can't find any benchmarks £100-£130 seems like a lot more to pay for a small uptick in MHz am I missing something? Would be interested to hear your opinions Cheers

Hi All - looking for some help I just upgraded from [2x4GB of G.Skills Ripjaws] to [2x8GB of Corsair Vengeance LP]. Both the previous RAM and current RAM run at 1600mhz with 9-9-9-24 timings. The new Corsair RAM appears to be working fine @ 11-11-11-30, but if I turn on XMP profile1 to achieve the above stated timings, the system emits 25 short beeps then fails to POST. The RAM is compatible with both the motherboard, processor and everything else in the system. * Pervious set-up works in XMP * I have tried disabling CPU turbo boost * nothing in the build is overclocked * I have tried resetting all BIOS settings to default Specs: CPU: i5 4690K MB: GA-Z97MX-Gaming 5 RAM: 2x8GB of Corsair Vengeance LP Any help would be greatly appreciated, else i might have to send the memory back

DIY Laptop Screen upgrade ("1024 × 768" to "1920 × 1080"
Captain-Obvious replied to Captain-Obvious's topic in Displays
Thanks for all the fast responses everyone, really appreciate it! Firstly, apologies, current resolution is 1366 x 768 - bit of an oversight on my part. This would be the potential upgrade to FHD http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/shop/TOSHIBA-TECRA-Z40-A-14.0-FULL-HD-LAPTOP-SCREEN__120191.asp Both the current screen and the upgrade use 30 pin connectors, so in theory this should work. There seems to still be some debate as to whether the processor / graphics adaptor will cope with the FHD screen. To confirm I would not be using the laptop for gaming - still it would be nice to watch a decent movie on the go! -
Hi all, Is it possible to replace a "1024 × 768" laptop display with a "1920 × 1080" model? The laptop is a Toshiba Tecra z40-a-16z, and I have found full HD replacement screens on ebay. The basic questions are: 1. Will the higher resolution screen be supported in terms of connectors, display adaptor, motherboard etc? 2. Will the i5 4310U processor cope with the extra strain of maintaining the higher amount of pixels? 3. Has anyone tried this before, and do you have any advice? Finally this is more of an "is it possible" question - I'm less concerned about cost effectiveness e.g. i'm aware it may be more sensible to just buy a new laptop. Thanks in advance, Dominic

Cheers for the fast response, I like the look of a lot of the monitors posted. There's also the added bonus that they don't have to be shipped from Germany, like all the ones I posted! It's a shame that we have to choose between the colour quality of IPS and the speed of TN, although that is changing if you have £300+ to spend on a monitor.

Hey Linus Tech Community, This is my first ever post! I've sourced help and advice from this forum for years and thought it was high time I officially joined. About a month ago I built a new rig (specs below), I'm very happy with the components and performance apart from the gaping obvious... The monitor I'm using is an old 15", 720p, 4:3 that weighs two tonnes. Please help me choice an upgrade. I tend to play Skyrim-esk games, no FPS and I watch a lot of films. Therefore I'd really like a 23-24", 1080p, IPS monitor, without breaking a £150 budget. What do you think of these models? https://www.alzashop.com/24-samsung-s24d590p-d1146777.htm https://www.alzashop.com/24-lg-24mp77hm-d2428122.htm https://www.alzashop.com/23-asus-vx239h-d439480.htm#recenze Equally if you think there are better options out there, I’d be really interested to hear from you.
