    WkdPaul got a reaction from TheLANguy in pi-hole on Windows
    This thread isn't about WHY you would run pi-hole on Windows, there are plenty of reasons why and why not, this is a guide for those that want to have pi-hole running on their Windows PC for one reason or another.

    We will be installing pi-hole on Windows, using Docker and WSL.

    Requirements ;
    Windows 10/11 WSL Docker Static IP on your local network for the PC you're installing this on A router or DHCP server where you can modify the default DNS IP on your network (but that can be done manually if needed). ----------------------------------------------------

    1. Activating Linux subsystems ;

    click the start menu and search for "turn win" to get the "features" control panel application ;

    In the Windows features, scroll down to "Windows Subsystems for Linux" and activate it (restart required).

    Once restarted, you'll need to install the WSL 2 kernel from the link below ;
    https://aka.ms/wsl2kernel

    Download and run the wsl_update_x64.msi (no need to restart)
    ----------------------------------------------------

    2. installing Docker;

    With Docker, as requirement, you'll also need to enable virtualization in your BIOS ! Refer to your MB manual to make sure it's activated.

    Docker installer ;
    https://www.docker.com/products/docker-desktop/

    Leave the options WSL 2 by default ;
    Once installed, you'll ne to restart again

    If you have a warning message about WSL 2 or about virtualization, it means you haven't one of the previous steps including activating virtualization in your BIOS, take the time to review everyting.
    ----------------------------------------------------

    3. installing Pi-hole

    Now that Docker is installed, you can install pi-hole by opening a command prompt and typing the following command ;
    docker pull pihole/pihole
    Once done, you should get the following ;

    Don't click RUN right away, we need to configure your pi-hole first.

    Open a command prompt, modify the following command and run it ;
    docker run -d --name pihole -e ServerIP=*.*.*.* -e WEBPASSWORD=password -e TZ=America/Montreal -e DNS1=127.17.0.1 -e DNS2=8.8.8.8 -e DNS3=1.1.1.1 -p 80:80 -p 53:53/tcp -p 53:53/udp -p 443:443 --restart=unless-stopped pihole/pihole:latest
    ServerIP needs to be the IP of the computer you're running Docker on, and as I mentioned earlier, it needs to be a static IP, meaning you'll have to get your router to reserve a specific IP for that PC. There are many ways to do that and many types of router, so if you're not sure, typing in Google you router model + reserve IP should give you instructions on how to accomplish that. WEBPASSWORD is the admin password you want to have on your p-ihole TZ is the timezone, the time zone formats are available here ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones DNS1 is your pi-hole localhost IP, then DNS2 and 3 are alternate DNS, I have put Cloudflare and Google DNS but you can put any other public DNS, or you can put your ISP DNS.
    You can also use your pi-hole as a DHCP server, if that's the case, you'll need to modify the above command to include that, so here's the github for Docker pi-hole ;
    https://github.com/pi-hole/docker-pi-hole
    ----------------------------------------------------

    4. setting your pi-hole

    Now your pi-hole should be running, and going to the URL 127.0.0.1/admin (or from another PC you can type you PC's IP instead of 127.0.0.1) sould bring you to your pi-hole webpage ;

    You can click Login on the left, and from there modify the settings if needed, if you want to set up your pi-hole as a DHCP server, this is where you can do the setup.
    ----------------------------------------------------

    5. Fix your router DNS

    You last step is to go to your router settings and change the DNS, of if you're using your pi-hole as a DHCP server, change the DNS to your pi-hole static IP address, and don't forget to add a secondary DNS (like Cloudflare, Google, or OpenDNS), this in case your pi-hole has a problem, this will make sure your internet doesn't drop if something happens to your pi-hole or the PC it's running on.

    Rossmann often gets very far up his own ass. His brand is glibertarian outrage over the claim of reduced consumer ownership in society, while Amazon's interest is maintaining corporate ownership. His is confused and nonsensical ideology of arguing against his own fundamentals.  He has tapped into the lucrative industry of 'Big Outrage'. What's a laissez-faire business-bro to do?

    So in other words you are being obtuse to recognize that one of the definitions of talk IS TO SPEAK.  Not email, but to speak.  It's like when I send an email to a college and say lets talk.

    Anyone who looked at this from the external point would say the statement RIF didn't want to talk is correct.

    Here's a series of events since you can't seem to realize:
    Reddit sends email to RIF; email ignore
    More emails; email ignored
    Reddit sends email with a headline to catch the attention (RIF has a hissy fit that Reddit had the audacity to do that because it's unprofessional...despite the other attempts)
    Trying to arrange a phone call
    Apollo leaks PART of a call, RIF decides there's no point in call

    So yea, RIF didn't want to talk with Reddit.

    RIF refused to talk after RIF saw Apollo's post about Reddit announcing silly prices.

    RIF was willing to talk prior to Reddit's talk with Apollo.
    Except there is email proof that the Verge looked at and said it confirmed RIF's story.

    They talked via email.
    Because Apollo publishes the portion of the conversion he had indicating Reddit was unwilling to budge.
    Email is a thing and RIF used that.
    After realising how fruitless it would be because Reddit wouldn't budge on the issue.
    RIF communicated with Reddit. It did happen.

    WkdPaul reacted to LAwLz in Reddit pulls a Twitter. Third Party Apps will cost some developers $20 MILLION/yr.
    If you're talking about the Apollo dev then he made a joke that Reddit interpreted as a threat, but it was supposedly cleared up during the call. The audio was apparently very bad during the call though so it was hard to understand. As far as I know, we don't actually have the full call. I was just able to find a small clip from it that the Apollo dev decided to publish. I was only able to find a clip that was 3 minutes and 34 seconds long, and the entire call was supposedly close to 30 minutes.
    So it is important to note that we at best only seem to have a small clip potentially lacking context that might not be the specific incident Reddit is referring to.

    The Apollo developer has also been caught bending the truth so I am not entirely sure we should take everything he says as the absolute truth. For example, he says that Reddit lied when Reddit claimed that the developer of RIF didn't want to talk to them. However, the developer of RIF himself said that he replied to Reddit wanting a phone call with him with "I don't see a phone call being productive. Please let me know when there is any new information to share that hasn't been made public".
    To me, that sounds like the RIF developer refusing to have a call, but there is some nuance to the situation. Reddit is referring to an offer to have a phone call when they say "RIF refused to talk to us", and the Apollo dev is referring to an email when he says "RIF did talk to Reddit".

    It's important to not view this as black and white and understand that both sites stand to gain from manipulating onlookers like you and me into believing things that may not be entirely true. Or that there could be misunderstandings and since we are just being retold what happened, with the person retelling things might be injecting their own interpretations into the retelling.
    I have many times heard someone retell a situation I witnessed and thought "hold on, that is not what happened at all". That might be happening here a lot since most of the accusations being thrown around by both Reddit and the third-party devs have been retellings of conversations they had in private.

    Not sure how it's middle of the road approach when he's saying accessibility tools becoming worse is misinformation, when people using those tools are actively trying to make sure Reddit listens to them and are pretty discouraged at Reddit's responses (or lack of it).

    Like you said, it might be true that 90% of users are not using 3rd party apps, but a lot of power users are, and that's the users that create, or moderate the content (I think it's called the Pareto rule or something?).

    For the rest I kinda agree though, pretty sure for the vast majority of the subs, things won't be as bad as people say (mod tools and bots)

Both of which hit dirt cheap prices as low as just $0.02 to $0.08 on Steam. However, over the past half a year or so the lowest they hit are just $0.11 to $0.20/$0.30 to $0.32 or $0.29/$0.39 on Humble(their current prices). There's also this bundle for a measly $0.20.
