Fuck you Google!!!

Had to pickup my in-laws at the airport yesterday, and funny enough, because I searched their flight a few time on Google to see if there were any delays, I got a navigation link to the airport on my phone!

I thought "how neet" and decided to use it when it was time to go.

Of course, I wasn't paying much attention and I was blindly following Google maps' directions, I didn't question it when we went "off course" because Montreal is just a giant clusterfuck due to road work right now.

Then I started questioning things when I realized I was close to one of the Bombardier's factory ... WTF ??? The arrivals and departures are on the OTHER side of the airport vs where I'm at right now ...

Stopped and zoomed in my destination, turns out Google maps was directing me to the maintenance area of the airport!!! That "detour" wasn't too bad, just 10 minutes more on my overall 35 minutes trip, Luckily, we were early so it wasn't a disaster. But what if it's someone that is trying to get to the airport for the first time? They won't know!!!

    TBF, Airports aernt Google's fault.

    Anything larger than a 3 terminal airport become a clusterfuck to park, find gates and navigate in general. ESPECIALLY in larger cities.

    Fuck google tho

    Google maps has a pretty good community and even if you're not a member, definitely submit a "suggest an edit" in your app. it would help someone in the future

    Here's a screenshot, the grey dot is where my destination was, VS the dropped pin is where I needed to be, thankfully, I realized the mistake before I got in that area ;

    And here you can see the Bombardier's building I mentioned, I knew something was up when I saw it down the road ;

    @TVwazhere actually, in MTL, it's pretty small, there's only one terminal, both for arrival and departure, but for some reason, Google decided that I wanted to go to the employees side of the airport.

    And to be fair, when I search in Google maps I get the appropriate location, it's really the nav link that I was served on my phone that was wrong!

    Had a similar thing when I went to a military base for work... it tells you to go into the base to get to the check in station... well if you try to follow those directions, some dudes with rifles will firmly but kindly tell you where the check in station is... ?

    That's the first time I used the "suggest an edit" feature

    @Razor Blade

    Yeah, I'll try to get another of those Google nav suggestion to the airport and use that feature, while I'm sure there are no militaries at the airport, I'm sure that edit could help someone from out of town not getting completely lost.

    Imagine camera drones being used for Google Maps ? Send them out weekly across the world, to monitor changes in topology, and change the maps to fit the new data...
