Finally upgrading my internet, getting Fiber (FTTN).

No internet for now (I'm on my phone using precious data).

Finally will be able to watch YT videos in 1080 without hogging all of the bandwidth!!! :D

I'm already happy with the symmetrical upload and download speeds I'm getting for $40 + $10 for cable. Hopefully I can get 50/50 once I get an income upgrade.

    This is FTTH btw

Even my gigabit is gonna be 1000/40...

    Noice, enjoy your new speeds!

On a slightly irrelevant note, I used to have FTTC fiber meaning I got 75/19Mbps speeds but now I'm back to a phone line connected directly to an exchange meaning FTTC will never happen, unless I completely switch to a different network of fiber and coaxial cables or get FFTP (which both cost £250+ ATM). At least I get 15Mbps (down) instead of the normal 6-8Mbps you get from ADSL, connected to a cabinet.

    What speed are you getting?

@Legendarypoet I can get that speed from another ISP but it will have a data cap. 1Gbps for $200/month but with for 6TB data cap. If I have the cash to blow I'm guessting 6TB data cap isn't bad. ^_^

    @Jamiec1130 I'm getting 25/10.

When I called I got the 50/25 plan but apparently the setup where I am isn't supporting those speeds. And I just confirmed it with the tech that came, peak speeds on my line is 30/12 ... So 25/10 package :(

BTW, the 50/25 package is only $5 more per month ! *cry*

    I have a 50/30 plan with TELUS.

  12. WkdPaul

    WkdPaul

Don't Telus plans have data caps?

@Legendarypoet Yikes, that's actually pretty expensive. Although I only get 15/0.7Mbps speeds, we only pay a little under £20 and that includes TV and phone services :P

@Legendarypoet no idea, the tech didn't know either but kinda let on that the equipment they have is kinda obsolete even for something that is relatively recent as Fiber optics.

@Legendarypoet I don't know about Canada but usually fiber coverage depends on the availability of the ONT device. In our case which is FTTH, the optical network terminal is very near to us. I'm guessing with @wkdpaul's internet, his ISP is repurposing existing DSL/coaxial cables but uses fiber as backbone. ISP's do this so that they can deliver great speeds but keeping the cost down.

@Mr.Meerkat *sigh* pricing for stuff like this is ridiculously low in Europe, I have a friend that's from France, she has 2 phones since the service she has in France covers roaming in Canada, includes 20GB of data and is only $30 CAD per month ... My cellphone plan is $40 CAD and includes no roaming and only 2GB (of which, 1GB was a "freebe" for subscribing!!).

Meanwhile I'm still struggling with unstable network connection...makes me unable to play games online

  18. Mr.Meerkat

    Mr.Meerkat

@wkdpaul I pay £9/month for my phone plan with 2GB of data. I can roam in more or less the whole of EU for free and in 22 non-EU counties such as Australia, Hong Kong, USA ect.

@wkdpaul Yeah, I was suprised by prices of mobile data plans in most other countries, they're so cheap in Poland! You pay like 20-25$/month for unlimited phone calls, unlimited text messages and 10GBs of internet, and you can add another 9GBs for less than 3 USD, and you can add it as many times you want every month!

  20. WkdPaul

    WkdPaul

Yeah, those prices are amazing, I also loved the prices I was getting when in China, basically had the same plan I have now in Canada (unlimited calls and text with 2GB of data) but I only paid a little over $10!

  21. NTDaws

    NTDaws

@wkdpaulyes but it's only $5 to get unlimited data

Ahhh! I went away for 30 minutes and came back to 21 notifications on a slow day! Anyways, at the office I get anywhere from 200-900/300-700 speeds (all Mb/s). Not too bad. At home I usually get 230/25 (again in Mb/s). The fastest offered at my house with cable (what I have now and am over paying for) is 300/20.
