You could tell that some of the people here on the forum too. People jump to conclusions way too quickly.

To be fair, 9/10 problems on facebook groups are caused by uneven beds or improper z offsets

Well ... Lesson learned!
I was having issues with my 3D prints, one filament was fine (the cheap no-brand one), while the Creality name brand filament had bed and layer adhesion issues!
Did tests (temp tower) among others things and they would always turn ok, but I kept having failed prints.
Turns a Cura profile I'm using wasn't set properly and had the nozzle temperature set to 175°c !!! That is WAY too low ... Except for the cheap no-brand PLA apparently !!!
Realized it today while I was babysitting another print (expecting a fail) and wanted to see what was the issue, that's when I spotted the temp on the LCD!

So not something I want either then. How about creating items that go to some company like shapeways or whatnot?
There's a lot of online services, lots of local people that also offer printing services. Another thing is public library, the one in my city offers 3D printing classes and you can reserve schedules for 3D printing something, you would still need to figure out the slicer settings, or maker spaces also offer schedules for printing.

I really need to get into 3D printing. I already have the 3D modelling skills, and off the top of my head I can quickly think of a few parts to design and print that would be useful around the house.
Just yesterday I modeled and printed a stocking fire place mantle hook for my girlfriend, works very well.

I've had good success with Overture PLA which is a bit cheaper, but I got Hatchbox Silk Rose PLA for a project for a friend, and this stuff is absolutely amazing. My brims practically fall off instead of peeling off which is awesome, however I feel there's a teeny bit of under extrusion happening compared to the overture pla and silk PLA, so that may be why. Would need to do more fine tuning to figure it out.
