  1. Just got a ticket ; context : app is internal and isn't related to the website mentioned, it's like saying you can't log into Facebook but can still log into the email you used to register your FB account with ... and why would being unable to login somewhere related to a printer's default bin ????? I need a break and another coffee.
  2. Upgrading my DL360p G8 soon, got myself 2x Xeon 2670 V2 for $10 CAD ($7.5 USD) each, the current CPUs are 2 Xeon 2660 V1, so not the most efficient.

Also got a used Dell H200E SAS card for $40 CAD ($30 USD), and some SFF-8088 cables (to make a DAS). I already have 8 drives I'll put in an old Antec 900 case (as the DAS).

The DL360p already has a 2.4TB in a raid 5, the 8 new drives will be in a ZFS through Proxmox. I'll deal with the pass through when I get there! 🤣

It's a 1U server, so it's noisy, thankfully there's a modded ilo4 firmware with fan controls out there, it's a bit of a pain to flash, but worth it! Controlling the fans manually and having them at 19-22% is amazing!

Pass-through on proxmox got more complicated in an annoying way.

Any old guide to enable the vfio-pci drivers no longer works. Only thing I found that does is blacklisting the driver but thats system wide. It means nothing else can use that driver either.

It might be possible to pin-point the HBA card using Device ID but I haven't investegated blocking it's driver when vfio-pci is unavailable.

  4. A surge protector will be useless in that case, only thing that would help is making sure to fix the issue, of use a UPS.
  5. That's not exactly true. "dirty" electricity is a thing, there's even a video on LTT where they encountered that issue in one of their previous location. It can be anything, a problematic outlet, old wiring, a poorly made junction somewhere in the walls, a defective circuit breaker, a defective appliance on the same circuit, etc... Only way to really know is to have the circuits tested by a master electrician (voltage drop, frequency fluctuation, circuit amp load, etc)

If Proxmox would stop being anoying ! I got the "black screen install" bug, turns out it's not hard to fix, but the tons of threads about this (from people having the same issue) all assume you're a Proxmox expert and instructions are VERY vague. Thankfully, found a thread where the person having the problem replied with "and how to I do that" and the next reply was clear.

can't remember the CPUs it has (I think it's some V2's with 8 core each), had 256GB of RAM and 5x 600GB 12k SAS drives. I'm looking to get a SAS card with external connections to make myself a small DAS. I'm installing Proxmox currently and will also flash the modded iLO4 firmware to quiet the fans.

Get a larger unit (2-3U) if you hate ear-piercing fan noise. Larger ones have fans that aren't as annoying in a house.

I guess that depends on if you find people dying horrifically to be funny.

  10. It's not exactly true as far as I've seen ; lots of people have removed or edited their posts while some subs were still "dark", you can't see or edit posts you've made in a sub that has been privated, so once those subs came back as public or restricted, posts and comments that were previously "hidden" (because of privatized subs), became public again, making it look like posts and comments were "restored". At least, that's what it seems like, I haven't looked further into it, it's not impossible for Reddit admins to restore posts and comments though, but I just don't see why they would do this.
  11. My point is, if you want to fight misinformation, general and broad statements aren't the way to go and in this case, swings too far and propagates misinformation in statements like this ; "accessibility will continue to work without the developers having to do anything" As the the apps with accessibility, from what I understand, only one was approved for now. If that changes great, if not, it could be problematic. I don't use or need those apps, so I'll refer to what the people needing those apps are saying. The mods from r/blind have meet with Reddit a few times already and they don't seem convinced. In the end, I don't think it will have the impact most are saying it will. Yes, mods and power users will leave, but they'll probably be replaced and most will learn to live with it. Thing is, Reddit is now a huge trove of information, that reason alone is why I think it'll survive, at least for a while because for now, there are absolutely no comparable alternatives.
  12. for business inquiries like this, you should go on their corp site ; https://linusmediagroup.com/contact-us or email them directly ; info@linusmediagroup.com
  13. Not sure how it's middle of the road approach when he's saying accessibility tools becoming worse is misinformation, when people using those tools are actively trying to make sure Reddit listens to them and are pretty discouraged at Reddit's responses (or lack of it). Like you said, it might be true that 90% of users are not using 3rd party apps, but a lot of power users are, and that's the users that create, or moderate the content (I think it's called the Pareto rule or something?). For the rest I kinda agree though, pretty sure for the vast majority of the subs, things won't be as bad as people say (mod tools and bots)
  14. I know excessive overprovisioning is fine to some extent, but I never felt comfortable with it.
  15. This ; The people at r/blind 100% disagree, the only approved accessibility 3rd party app doesn't have the mod tools they need,, and Reddit itself isn't compatible with screen readers and other accessibility needs. Accessibility is an actual issue for a huge part of that community, yet you labelled that as misinformation, I'm wondering why?
  16. I have "prosumer" equipment, 1 router, 3 switches and 2 AP, they're all controlled through the server. I have mesh wifi on my 3 floors and I can update my device's firmware from my phone. I can easily reserve IPs, block devices, have my IoT on a separate virtual network, so if there's a security issue, my PCs aren't on the same network. There's more (dynamic DNS, VPN from my router, firewall with lots of logs and network data, etc..) It's overkill ... But I'm a sysadmin, I can't stop myself from using this stuff!

Mods from r/mildlyinteresting were removed and…

MoCoord is a good place to see wtf is happening, and it's not pretty. Other subs have had they mod teams purged by Reddit admins, looks like they're brute forcing it.
  18. This thread was cleaned multiple times, but sadly the OP's title and post were extremely antagonistic and condescending, not something that will work if you want an actual explanation into what is happening, if you actually care. This thread has obviously ran it's course, especially with the high horsing and condescending tone throughout. Happy or not about what's happening, the community standards still apply. *Thread locked*
  19. Mods from r/mildlyinteresting  were removed and a few got a 7 day ban ;

  20. Question, are the mods on r/blind lying? https://old.reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/14ds81l/rblinds_meetings_with_reddit_and_the_current/
  21. With the description of the hardware (i5 with DDR3) means you'll have little room to play with (4 cores for a hypervisor is useless IMO). You could see if you can get a cheap i7 for that generation and look to get to 32gb of RAM (used DDR3 is VERY cheap), with 8 cores you'll have room to breathe and might be able to experiment. My home server is a i7 3770 with 32gb of DDR3 and I'm running Win10 with everything in Docker containers, and it's close to it's max (it's used as a NAS, media server, VPN server, home automation server, torrent box, network controller (DHCP & DNS) and a few things I'm sure I'm forgetting).
