  1. That's what I thought, surely if the board was bad the whole lot would go and not just the CPU. I've or had a CPU go bad on me (20+ builds done over the years) so it's why it was the last thing I tried when swapping out parts! Thanks! That's what I was hoping for, sucks to have a new one die so quickly but when this replacement arrives I'll be happy.
  2. Hey everyone! A bit of backstory, I just switched to AMD and picked myself up a Ryzen 7 3700x, ASUS ROG STRIX B-450F and 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200Mhz after being with Intel since the start of my computer building escapades. After some initial teething problems (caused by thinking the RAM would use the XMP profile straight away with no tinkering required) I managed to get everything up and running and was loving it. I had left it running Friday night generating thumbnails for Plex and it was still working at this up until Tuesday evening when I noticed the server had went offline, I thought maybe my power had went out or my powerline adapter had messed up, but when I returned home Wednesday morning the computer fans and lights were all spinning but no display. I turned it off and on again but no post, the DRAM light was lit up on the board so I assumed it was a RAM issue. Luckily my brother also runs a Ryzen build so I was able to start troubleshooting, I swapped out every part to no success until I had only the CPU left, I put his Ryzen 3 1300x in my build and it booted up straight away into Windows, all 32GB RAM recognized and everything running as normal. Tried my CPU in his build and the exact same issue, no post. I have a replacement CPU arriving tomorrow so I'm really just looking for some knowledge on what could have caused this, was I just unlucky and got a faulty CPU? Some points of interest: - I know the B450-F isn't considered a great board for overclocking, I don't OC whatsoever and everything was left at Auto, apart from the RAM which was set to run at 2933Mhz. Memtest64 comfirmed this stable. Surely the board would be fine for handling a 3700x at stock speeds? - I've read that AMD boards sometimes aggressively overclock Ryzen CPU's to get the most out of them, causing the CPU Voltage to go dangerously high, could this have caused the CPU to fail? Should I set the board to run at a constant voltage when I get the replacement? - Temps were idling around 40C, hotter than what I'm used to with my Intel build but I think Ryzen just runs hotter? Also using the stock Prism cooler, I had an aftermarket one on the Intel build so this could have changed things. I'm assuming if the CPU got dangerously hot the board would have protections built in to stop this. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Thank you, I appreciate it! Just got the rest of my RAM and the 8 pin braided cable, now all's left is for my 970 to arrive
  4. Tried that, no luck With the graphics card plugged in the onboard won't display anything when I plug the monitor in to it, can't seem to find where to change the primary graphic selection, going to have another look now, thanks Everything works fine in my computer and I've switched out various parts, the only time the issue occurs is when a graphics card is plugged in, but it's trying it's best to connect I can see the monitors flickering to the right channel, it's so close but so far! haha Thanks Ok so I set up the board to run multiple monitors with the onboard and graphics card at the same time, now I'm logged into windows and it's acting as if there's two monitors, it even says the 460 is plugged in, strange. FIXED! I feel pretty silly now, tried the HDMI (which wasn't working either earlier) just by itself and it was working fine, so that narrowed it down to the VGA cable... Took a quick look at the adapter and: Must have bent the pin when disconnecting it before I installed the RAM! It always ends up being something simple, tried my brothers adapter and everything's working perfectly. Thanks for all the help though!
  5. Ok, so I had everything working perfectly with my new build, just went to install another 8 gigs of RAM and now when I turn it on the graphics card won't show anything. I tried my brothers card and it does the same so it's not a card issue, also removing the RAM I just installed doesn't help. Something peculiar also happens as the monitor flickers when the computer turns on, it flicks to the right mode and when it gets to the Windows login screen (I can tell by the mouse and keyboard lights) it keeps trying to connect so it's like it knows something should be there but it can't see it meaning it's still connecting to the card in someway. So here's what I've tried, if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated! -Different Graphics Card -Different Power leads -Removing the new RAM -Different display leads Everything runs fine if I use the onboard graphics so again not a problem there, thinking something may have happened the PCI slot Thanks in advance! 6. First post here, been lurking while I prepare my new build just wanted to show you guys it! Graphics card is being changed (970),2 sticks of blue Corsair Vengeance are being added and the 8 PIN ATX is being changed to a blue braided to match the rest (stupidly ordered an 8 PIN PCIE) and go around the back of the board, so they'll hopefully arrive this week. Love this case, even people not into computers comment on how nice it is.
